《What Walks Among Us (currently being edited, will be posted by 2023)》You Broke Her

Sam knelt in front of me and unwrapped my knee, "You haven't been on it, right?" he asked, "and you've been making sure to take the medicines that Cody was giving you? Cody you gave her her medicine right? If not,-"
Sam was cut off when Cody walked in with my grab bag, "Yes, mom, I gave her her medicine, and fed her, and I even made sure to check her pulse every hour on the hour."
Sam swiveled around and I caught the glare that he shot at Cody, "Don't be a jerk," he said, rolling his eyes before looking at me, he grinned, "he's so needy for attention, don't you think?"
I wasn't sure what to say, and Cody was now glaring at Sam, so I let out a nervous giggle. Sam smirked and looked pleased even as Cody thumped the back of his head, Cody looked up at me, making eye contact, "Here's your bag, Kodi," he paused, "man, it's weird having someone else with the same name as me."
Sam put the used gauze in a pile and peeled off the bandage that covered my knee, "Nah, Chester doesn't call her by her name unless he's trying to be serious. He calls her Cupcake I think."Cody rolled his eyes, "Well yeah, but that's just Chester, we can't all call her Cupcake, that would be weird."
I cringed when Sam pulled the bandage fully off, but it did look a lot better. It was still a little red but it wasn't an angry red, there was no liquid coming out, and it didn't hurt when he extended my leg fully.
"Well I don't know about you, but I think she looks like a Sunshine," Sam said, and took a disinfectant wipe to my knee, it didn't hurt to bad, but it still stung.
"What do you think Kodi? Do you need a nickname?"
I blinked and focused on Cody, catching up with what he was saying. They had been talking to themselves and I had been listening but not really focusing on their words. I was more interested in my knee and hoping I could be ungrounded.
"I ah, uh? Yes?" I asked, wondering if I had even answered a yes or no question. I felt like I was in school daydreaming and was caught off guard by the teacher deciding to check how well I was listening.
Cody smiled at me, a real smile and I wanted to take a picture. It softened his features and made him look even more handsome than I already knew he was. It made his usually grumpy face look open and inviting. I wanted to capture the moment so I could look back on it.

"It's settled then," he said, winking before walking off to the kitchen.
What's settled? Did I just agree to be a sex slave?
I laughed at myself, finding myself pretty darn funny and then I noticed that Sam had stopped looking at my knee to stare at me with a weird expression. I could tell he was trying to figure out why I was laughing and it only made me laugh harder. Every time I looked at Sam I would start laughing even more, soon I wasn't actually laughing, but I was.
I was moving my mouth like I was laughing and clapping like some special kind of seal. To make matters worse when I breathed in all you heard was a little squeak, and that set me off all over again.
Sam started to look absolutely confused, and to my amusement he started trying to see if he looked funny and that's why he was laughing. He checked his hair, and while he was looking at his shirt Cody walked in with the three water bottles. He took one look at my hysterical state, and Sam's confused state, and shook his head.
"You broke her, I thought you were supposed to fix her, not break her and make it worse!" Cody said, chucking a water bottle at Sam.
He caught it easily, "She just kind of.." he put his hands in front of himself and gestured at me, "you know?"
I wiped the tears from my eyes and sucked in a shaky breath, "No, I just," my voice cracked at the thought of telling them why I was laughing, "Nevermind," I said, sobering up while still smiling.
I'm pretty sure I just convinced them that I was a nut job, but I guess it was bound to happen eventually.
Sam just kind of shook his head at me and smiled curiously, "Yeah, anyways, so you're good to go outside and do stuff, but I don't want you climbing trees like some sort of monkey thing, okay?"
I was so happy that I'd be able to walk around like a normal person that I didn't mind the tree thing. Who cares? I can walk! I can run, jump, do a marathon- okay let's not get crazy here. I may be able to run pretty fast and through the woods, but I'm definitely not a marathoner.
Cody sipped his water bottle, "So do you want to walk around town for a bit?"
Sam shook his head, "We can't, well I mean you and I can't, we need to go to the practice gym and help out before Chester gets back. And we have to go ask for a house for Mabel and Kodi to have. Then we have to set it all up."

Cody opened his mouth but I beat him to it, "Can't I just go with you guys? I want to help out with the house and stuff, I mean," I stood up from the couch, still in my pjs, " I'm not useless," I said, putting my hands on my hips.
Sam looked over at me and raised an eyebrow, "Be dressed in five minutes and you can come with us."
I pointed at him, "Deal," and then I was running over to the stairs.
I made it up the stairs while they guys were still chuckling. Inside my room I walked over to the corner and found my bag. Oh, the freedom of being able to walk.
My leg felt weird from having not walked all day, I yanked off my shirt and pulled on a new one before switching my sleeping shorts for a pair of skinny jeans. They were the kind that weren't heavy enough to be warm but weren't light enough to leave your legs freezing.
I grabbed some socks and ran down the stairs to put my shoes on. When my foot touched the bottom of the stairs someone grabbed my shoulder and I felt them come closer. I wasn't sure what they were doing, or who they were.
My mind blanked out and the self defense lessons came forth. I turned towards whoever it was and pushed the palm of my hand up, hitting their nose.
I heard a laugh and at the same time I heard a grunt of pain, I looked up at my attacker and saw that it was just Cody. His hazel eyes narrowed on me as he cupped his nose, "the hell was that for?" he practically barked t me.
I glanced around and Beck was now in the room with Sam, they were both looking over at us, each of them at a different degree of holding back a smile. Sam had some sort of joyful grimace and Beck was smirking.
"I'm sorry," I looked at Cody, panicked, "I didn't mean it, I mean I did but I didn't," I stumbled over an apology, "I didn't know it was you grabbing me and I just kind of..." I gestured in front of myself, "it just happened."
Cody shook his head, "No, you didn't do anything wrong, trust me," he grunted.
I bit my lip and took a step forward, "You sure I didn't break your nose or something?"
At this the two doofus' on the other side of the room started laughing like I had just told some insanely funny joke. I turned and gave them a stern looking but somewhere in their boy brains that meant laugh harder. Maybe this is what Sam felt like when I lost my marbles earlier.
Probably not.
I shook my head at myself and looked up at Cody, his eyes were on me already as he rubbed his nose. I gently tugged his hand away and he didn't resist very much as his hand came down, I looked at his nose which had a tiny bit of blood and was slightly red but otherwise looked okay.
Was it bad that I felt a little seed of satisfaction at what I had just done to him? Nope, I think not.
I contemplated asking if he wanted a bandaid and then realized that would draw some questions about my already fragile sanity level, so I settled with a soft smile, "I'm sorry I hit you in the face," I followed up by kissing his nose.
It was something I had read in a few novels, and I was surprised with myself after I finished. Cody was a lot taller than I was so I had to go up on my toes, while on the first step of the stairs to reach him. After I did it though I felt a little awkward and I simply walked away. The two clowns had stopped laughing and I found my shoes and laced them up while wondering if I had just done something wrong.
It was quiet as I laced up my first shoe, and as I started on my second Beck cleared his throat, "Next time, I want to be the one she hits," I heard a thump and assumed it was one of the guys hitting him upside the head.
I decided to just pretend I didn't do that, it would make things easier. I finished lacing up my shoes and then stood up and pulled my pants up while looking at the clock.
"I can't go," I said flatly, and the disappointment was clear.
"Why not?" Beck asked, sounding confused.
"It's been five minutes."
There was a pause and then Beck was marching over, her looped an arm around my shoulder and steered me out of the room, "good, come play with me then," his eyes were bright and mischievous.
Sam quickly caught up with us, "Don't be stupid Beck, she's coming.. wait, I thought you were coming with us as well?"
Beck paused our walk and I looked between them while they spoke, "No, I said I was going with her, if she's not going with you then I'm not either."
Sam rolled his eyes and Cody spoke up from behind us, ushering us out the door, "We're all going to the gym, now move along, let's go, chop chop."
I laughed as we were all shoved out the door.

Dungeon Darwinism: Deepest Dungeon
Dungeons are a lot like sea turtles. They’re born in clutches of dozens, if not hundreds. But most of humanity only know about the dungeons that make it. Mark doesn’t know anything about dungeons. He isn’t from this world, and only as a victim of circumstance has he become an unwilling half of a dungeoncore. The other half is a Dark Lord. (Rewrite)
