《The Chapstick Girl》Are You Cold

Amber's pov:
Looking around to make sure no one was looking or listening, I shoot Liam a glare while harshly whispering a "stop" as he continues to smirk at me creepily from across the table.
Ever since we've been seated, Liam has been eyeing Damien and I closely and listening in our conversations with that creepy smirk on his face.
At first, I was able to ignore it, being best friends with him since preschool had its advantages.
Plus, I knew he had some weird shipping obsession between Damien and I all in his head, ever since I told him about my crush on Damien a long time ago.
But as minutes passed by, I couldn't help but find his smirk to become a little freaky.
He looked like he was planning my funeral but also my wedding at the same time.
I also was afraid that Damien would notice, because I sure did.
I love Liam to death and all, but gosh, did I want to stab him with my fork.
Like the devil himself could read my mind, Liam whispers to me, "I feel like I am watching a romantic movie, the part right before the kissing scene occurs." He shoots me a wink and points at me before pointing at Damien while making kissy faces.
I couldn't help but sink down in my chair, completely embarrassed at the fact that anyone could have heard what he said.
And by anyone I mean as in Damien, who at this moment turns back towards me from his conversation with Luke, causing heat to suddenly rush back to my cheeks at the close proximity between us since our chairs were pretty close together.
"Do you know what you are getting?" He asks me, his breath slightly fanning over my neck as he leans closer to me to take a look at my menu.
"No... not yet." I let out a shaky breath, cursing at the fact that Liam was problem laughing from across the table at my shaken form.
"Me neither, I was kinda hoping you would persuade me." He looks up at me, a playful glint in his eyes as I shake my head, a smile tugging at my lips.
"Persuade you?" I play along.
"Well, I've heard that angels are always right." He whispers, running a hand through his hair, his eyes capturing mine in his welcoming ones.
I feel my heart start to quicken its pace, "Really? I wouldn't put that much trust in your angels then."
"My angels have been right so far."
"And what have they done that's been right?"
"Given me good advice, been there for me, saved my butt when I almost got kicked off my boxing team." My breath gets caught in my throat as he unknowingly nibbles on his bottom lip, causing my eyes to slowly drift down to his lips, before quickly flicking back up to his eyes.
"You might have some pretty amazing angels then."
"Well, it's actually just one pretty amazing angel, but don't tell her that I told you."
"Something tells me that she already knows."
"I must be in trouble then."
"You must be."
He was about to say something when he was quickly cut off, along with everyone else's conversations, by our waitress, who we quickly got to know of from when she gave us our drinks, "Excuse me, what can I get all of you to eat today?"

Quickly, I glance down at my menu, forgetting that I didn't decide want I wanted, as does Damien, who follows along as I quickly flip through the menu, our eyes both traveling fast along the pages.
After rushing to read most of the options, I decide to just have an Alfredo pasta, whereas Damien goes for some kind of fancy named sandwich.
We then give her all our menus as she thanks us, leaving to put the order in.
Everyone returns to their previous conversations, as Damien turns back towards me, slowly moving his chair closer to mine so that they were just about to touch.
"Do you want to go on a walk following dinner after everyone has left?" He suggests out of nowhere.
"Is there a particular reason you would like to go on a walk?" I couldn't help but ask.
He shrugs his shoulders, "You know... it's nice outside, the sun will be setting, and I feel like I haven't talked to you all day."
I laugh at his words, "What do you mean? I've seen you almost all day, at lunch, at your practice, now..." I drawl out.
Although I was saying one thing, it definitely didn't me I was complaining.
"Yeah but... I like spending time with you."
If my heart hasn't given up by now, it definitely just did.
I quickly glance down at the table shyly, collecting my thoughts, before looking back up at him.
"I- I liking spending time with you too." I stutter, trying not to make it obvious that his words took a tool on me.
He smiles, "So I take that as a yes?"
"It was a yes from the second you asked."
"Good, you were making me a little nervous on my end."
I lightly punch his shoulder, "Nervous? You know I never turn down anything."
"You turned me down when I asked you to switch my power ranger!"
...
"Are you serious."
"Yes!"
"It hurts me to know that you are still thinking about that."
"But it hurts me to know that every time I look at my dresser I see a green power ranger."
"You kept that?!" I laugh.
He glares at me, "what's so funny about that?"
"It's for seven year olds."
"So?"
"You are seventeen."
"And your point is...?"
I scrunch my nose pretending to be annoyed, but he just laughs and bops my nose, muttering a "cute" under his breath.
I could say I blushed but it's gotten passed the point where it's just assumed that I'm always blushing from this boy.
"Amber!!"
Our... What I would like to say conversation but at the same time not because of what the actually topic was about which is definitely not a normal conversation was interrupted by Ella who was pointing at Gianna for some reason.
"Don't you agree that Snow White is completely over rated?! That movie was not the best princess movie."
"Not true!!! Snow White had an amazing story line!"
"It was only good because of the seven dwarfs! Who in the world takes a bite from an apple given by a stranger?!"
"She was probably hungry!! You would have done the same."
"Not when the stranger was a creepy old lady who was in the MIDDLE of the woods."

I look over at Julie the same time she looks at me, giving me a 'I don't even know' look that caused me to hide a laugh from a bickering Ella and Gianna.
"Fine! Let's ask Amber then since we can't ask Julie."
"Hey! Why not?!" She asks defensively.
"Because you like anything related to Disney." Ella says, as Julie slumps back in her chair, crossing her arms over her chest.
"That's not true."
"Do you want me to call up Ashton? Because..." Gianna grins while pulling out her phone before she was quickly cut off by Julie.
"-...Actually!!! I just remembered that you're right." She laughs nervously as we all laugh at her, knowing that he probably would have supported Gianna and Ella's claim.
"Fine then... what about Ally?" Julie points defensively at Ally, who only throws her hands up in defense.
"Oh I'm not getting into this one. I've had my fair share of battles between Ella and I before, this ship has sailed a long time ago."
"What's that supposed to mean??!"
"Okay, okay! Back to what I was saying," Gianna points a guilty finger at me, "give me your opinions."
"Gianna you are going to scare her away." Julie rolls her eyes, before a rolled up napkin was suddenly thrown at her face.
"What was that for??!"
"Shush! I am trying to be proved right!" She stares me down like some sort of Medusa.
"Uh... actually... I'm going to have to agree with Ella on this one. Snow White wasn't really my favorite-..."
"HAH!!! I told you!!!" Ella jumps up throwing a fist pump in the air, before she was quickly pulled down back to her seat by an embarrassed Luke.
"I need to rethink my love life." He mutters under his breath.
"That's only one other person's opinion though!!! That could just be by chance." Gianna says, not accepting defeat, as she crosses her arms.
"Why aren't you asking us?" Damien asks her, pointing at the rest of the boys.
"Because guys opinions are always wrong." Gianna says smugly, before three rolled up napkins by Damien, Luke, and Liam were all thrown at her face simultaneously.
"You know what? Girls fight over the stupidest reasons anyways." Luke says, taking a sip from his water.
But that was quickly short lived as his glass was snatched away from Gianna, and I don't know if it was just my eyes playing tricks on me or not, I could almost see the smoke coming out of her ears as she shoots daggers at Luke.
"What did you just say...?" She says slowly.
Although she looked like she was two seconds away from detaching Luke's head from his body, he seemed unfazed.
"You know what I just said. This is like the eighth argument this week that had something Disney related." He smirks, but it falters a little when Gianna leans onto the table closer to him.
Luke inches his chair closer to Ella, who only chuckles at the situation that he's just put himself in.
Honestly, I haven't known them long, but their relationship is just the best to watch. Ella has him like a dog on a leash.
"I will be the sole reason there aren't Luke jr.'s in your future."
"Okay!!!" Julie clasps her hands together, "Why don't we change the conversation before I have to be calling an ambulance for Luke's sake."
"Hey!"
"You aren't wrong."
"Gianna!"
"What?"
...
"...I'm just saying that Julie ain't wrong."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm hungry..." Damien whines from beside me, stabbing his fork on my arm for about the fifth time in the last minute.
"You enjoying that?"
"Yes." He pouts looking up at me since he was lying with his face on his arms that were against the table.
Though I did have to agree with him, it's been almost forty-five minutes since she walked away with our order.
Normally, I wouldn't mind the wait, but our group was basically the only ones in the cafe, so I was questioning why it was taking so long to dish out only eight plates.
But we all did end up ordering something different, so maybe that could have been it.
"Just hang in there, I promise that the food will be out soon." I rub his arm as he takes his other hand and places it over mine, just holding it tightly against his.
"Your hands are cold... are you cold?" He asks, looking at me intently, a flash of worry in his eyes.
Although I couldn't understand what he would have been nervous about. Could it be because he was worried about me being cold?
"No..."
"You're lying."
"Fine... maybe I'm a little cold, but-..."
Before I could finish, this time, he pulls my chair closer to his so that they are finally touching one another.
He swings an arm over me and brings my body closer to his, so that I was right against his much warmer one.
Again, not even going to mention blushing because I don't think it ever left.
"Is this okay?" He whispers, his breath tickling my ear as he rubs his hand that was wrapped around me up and down my arm, a way to try and warm me up.
"Yeah... th-thanks." I nervously look down at the table, not forgetting who's presence was just on the other side of the table.
I definitely did not miss the strangely odd high pitched squeal that came from Liam's mouth, not even knowing it was possible for him to make such a noise.
I could almost hear the gears turning in his head, and the thought of knowing what he was thinking gave me chills down my spine.
I continue my staring game with the table, avoiding stares that may have came from anyone else who saw the close proximity between Damien and I.
But Damien's lips against my ear soon brought me out of my thoughts as he again whispered...
"Please tell me if you are ever cold or uncomfortable... you are to delicate for that."
Even though I was sure that I wasn't supposed to hear that last part, the butterflies in my stomach surely did, as did my my heart that took its last blow from this boy.
"O-..okay..." And for the millionth time that night... I stuttered under his presence.
And in this moment, I knew my feelings for Damien was far passed a silly crush. I was falling for Damien... I was falling hard.
