Dracula shoved (Y/n) and Johnny into a room, and Johnny immediately started freaking out.
"Ah! Please don't kill us. We're so young!"
Johnny ran over to the window and started banging on it as Dracula slowly started to approach him.
"I have so many places I wanna see! I've got tickets to six Dave Matthew's Band concerts!"
Johnny ran over to (Y/n) and grabbed her wrist. "We're getting out of here!"
Johnny saw a trapdoor on the floor, opened it, and jumped down it, dragging (Y/n) with him. A second later, a thundering roar filled the room and Johnny and (Y/n) zipped out of the trapdoor.
"Shut up already. It's impossible for me to think with all your noise." Dracula complained.
Then he looked down the trapdoor. "Sorry, Glen. Go back to sleep!" Dracula closed the trapdoor and approached Johnny and (Y/n).
"Wait. Aren't you going to suck our blood?" Johnny asked, hanging from the bed curtains.
Dracula groaned and clutched his forehead. "Ugh, classic human paranoia. Human blood is so fatty, and you never know where it's been."
"So, Dracula doesn't drink blood?" (Y/n) asked as Johnny climbed down from the curtains.
"No, I use a blood substitute. Either Near Blood is Blood Beaters. You can't tell the difference."
"So, wow, you're like the real Count Dracula. Like, 'I'm Dracula. Bleh, bleh-bleh.' " Johnny mimicked.
"I've never said that in my life. 'Bleh bleh-bleh.' I don't know where that comes from." Dracula told him.
(Y/n) hesitantly took a step forward. "Can I just ask, what exactly is this place?"
"What is this place?"
Dracula approached the window and they flew open, letting in a dramatic wind that pushed his cape back.
"It's a place I built for all those monsters out there, lurking in the shadows, hiding from the persecution of humankind." He explained dramatically.
"A place for them and their families to come be themselves. A place void of torches, pitchforks, angry mobs. A place of peace, relaxation and tranquility."

"Cool, so it's like a hotel for monsters?" Johnny summed up.
Dracula scowled. "Yes, exactly. A hotel for monsters. Way to sum it up."
He suddenly zoomed towards the two siblings. "Okay, hop on my back, you're both leaving."
He transformed into a bat and (Y/n) and Johnny looked at him in awe.
"Oh man, you're a bat now." Johnny pointed out. "I've always wanted to fly. What's it like?"
Dracula didn't answer and picked them both up with his feet.
"This is insane. Wait, wait. We wanna stay. Can Frankenstein sign my costume? Can I meet the Invisible Man?"
Johnny bombarded Dracula with questions while (Y/n) rolled her eyes and thought of the boy she had seen downstairs. She wished she could talk to him one more time before she left.
"Hey, if I stuck my hand in the Invisible Man's mouth, would it disappear?" Johnny asked.
Dracula flew them out the window, only to run into another bat.
"Hi." Maven greeted.
"Mavey!" Dracula greeted nervously. "What are you doing my little blood orange? Our friends were just leaving."
"Yeah, he was flying us out the window." Johnny told him.
Maven looked over at (Y/n), and she shyly looked up at him and waved. Maven smiled at her.
Dracula laughed. "Haha, this guy, he's so funny!"
He flew them back into the room, and Dracula changed back.
"Oh look, you have something on your face." Dracula leaned close to them and his tone darkened. "Play along if you ever want to see you precious backpacks."
(Y/n) looked over Dracula's shoulder and saw Maven transform back into himself.
"Woah!" Johnny gasped. "So, wait, you didn't have any clothes on as a bat? Or were they bat-sized?"
(Y/n) elbowed Johnny's shoulder and awkwardly smiled at Maven.
"Who exactly are they?" Maven asked.
Dracula hummed nervously, before facing his son. His arms around Johnny and (Y/n).
"Honey-bat."

Maven flinched a little in embarrassment at being called 'Honey-bat' in front of the cute vampire girl.
"You see, it's your birthday. And you know I want you to have the bestest, specialist party of your life. So, well, I needed some help." Dracula explained.
"You needed help?" Maven asked suspiciously.
"Well, look, I am very good, but I thought it would be even more bestest and specialist if people closer to your age helped plan the party."
Maven leaned closer to Johnny and (Y/n). "You're both my age?" He asked excitedly.
"Sure. Well, how old are you?" (Y/n) asked.
"118." He answered.
"One hundred and-!" Dracula elbowed Johnny in the gut to shut him up, and (Y/n) winced.
"Yeah, I'm 121." Johnny responded.
"I'm also 118." (Y/n) answered quickly, not wanting Dracula to elbow her as well.
"Really?" Maven asked, leaning closer to (Y/n) with happiness.
The girl smiled and nodded.
Dracula came in between the two. "You see? Everything is very, very normal. I'm throwing a party, and they're helping."
"Sir!" A suit of armor in the room suddenly spoke. "There's an emergency."
"Not now." Dracula said, annoyed. "Can't you see we're in the middle of something very normal here?"
Johnny looked at the suit of armor with fascination, and walked over to it.
"Wait, what's going on here? There's an emergency in your precious hotel, and you're not running to fix it?" Maven asked.
Johnny was poking at the suit of armor, and (Y/n) was awkwardly standing to the side.
"Why? Is it because of them?"
"No, precious bones, it's not because of them." Dracula denied.
"Good." Maven perked up. "Then go check on the emergency, and I'll keep them company."
He gently wrapped an arm around (Y/n)'s shoulder, excited about the thought of spending time with her.
Dracula pushed the to apart and grabbed Maven's shoulders. "No! Anything but that!" He begged.
Maven gave his dad a weird look. "What?"
"I mean, because they need time to plan. And if you're keeping them company, then they're not planning." Dracula explained.
"Well, surely you don't need both of them to plan, so why don't you and the Frankenstein guy get started, while I stay here with her." Maven weaved around his dad, and grabbed (Y/n)'s hand in his.
"Hi. I'm Maven." He introduced, kissing her hand.
"O-Oh, hi! I-I'm (Y-Y/n)." She stuttered, her cheeks turning red, as she glanced down at the floor.
Maven smiled and thought it was the cutest thing he had ever seen.
Dracula's face contorted into a frown and he grabbed Maven's shoulders and started pushing him out the door.
"Actually, yes, I do need both of them, if I'm going to make this your bestest, specialist birthday ever." He said with gritted teeth as he opened the door.
"Mmm-Hmm. Good one." The shrunken head commented.
"Shut up!" Dracula snapped.
"Okay..." Maven backed away towards (Y/n). "So, maybe if your not planning later, we can hang out?" He asked hopefully.
"Sounds great!" (Y/n) agreed.
"Yes, you hear that? It sounds good. So you will hang out. See you later, Mavey."
Dracula pushed Maven out the door and shut it, turning to (Y/n) with a deep frown.
Okay, you're not hanging out." He told her.
The girl's face fell. "Why not?"
"Because you and your brother are leaving." He answered.
Dracula felt along the stone wall until he found the stone he was looking for. He pushed it and the wall opened up to reveal a secret passage way.
"Follow me." He ordered as he zipped down the passage.
Johnny quickly grabbed (Y/n)'s hand and pulled his reluctant sister along, as the wall closed behind them.

The Heart Grows
Dungeon games? Yeah, they're a good way to waste a few hours. The trick is to know the map and plan appropriately. Of course, it doesn't matter if you get beaten. You revise your plan for that map and do a bit better next time. Man, it'd really suck to wake up as a dungeon heart in a fantasy world you know nothing about, barely able to even work out how to control your dungeon. Lucky that wouldn't happen to anybody, huh? What with only having one chance at getting things right, you'd have to plan extra-defensive. This story should be getting chapters published weekly. I have a comfortable buffer set up and on top of the weekly writing I am committing, a commissioner has donated two monthly writing slots to ensure this remains on a weekly schedule. There will be a stat block at the beginning of every chapter bar the first, and a handy map at the end. All my works come with a CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This means you are free to download, publish, and even make derivative works of my writing so long as you include this license, attribution, and don't sell the works. Keep it free!
