《Blondie》Chapter 11

It had been a week since Saturday. I was kind of hoping that I would see Josh all week last week, but we never ran into each other. I pulled up to his house, in my car this time. Cooper and I were going to the Homecoming football game for our article. I got out of my jeep. It was maroon and it was my baby. I loved this car more than anything. Ever since my dad couldn't get Alexander or Noah to care about cars he hyper focused that energy on me. He got me knowing every part of a car, before I knew the alphabet. I had fixed my and Cami's cars more often than Cami has gotten her nails done and that is a lot. It doesn't help that Cami still drives the same piece of shit car from high school either. I walked up to the door of the house and knocked a few times.

Danny came to the door again. "Hey Lili," he said.

"Hi Danny," I greeted.

He smiled then he turned around. "JOSH!" he called into the house. "LILI'S HERE!"

"Oh!" I stopped him. "I'm actually here to get Cooper."

"My bad," Danny shrugged. He turned back around. "COOP! LILI'S HERE! NEVERMIND JOSH!"

It was too late, Josh was already heading toward the door apparently oblivious to Danny's last announcement. Danny slid away just as Josh came to the door.

"I knew you couldn't stay away for long," he told me.

"Ha ha," I said sarcastically. "I'm not here for you."

"Oh yeah?" He challenged me. "Then who are you here for?"

Somebody thinks very highly of himself.

"Sorry man," Cooper said as he came up behind Josh. He hit Josh on the shoulder with fake condolence. "She's here for me." Cooper's camera dangled from his arm as he passed Josh and stood next to me. He put his arm around me, just to mess with Josh, but I let him.

"See you later Josh," I told him as Cooper and I turned to leave.

"See ya Blondie," he called after us.

"Don't call me that!" I yelled back. I could hear his faint chuckles as Cooper and I slammed the car doors.

"What was that?" Cooper asked me.

"His stupid nickname for me?" I asked. "Just his way of getting me riled up."

Cooper smirked as he buckled in and I set the car in drive. We drove the car to the football field and we got out and walked in together.

We stood side by side in the bleachers of the football stands. It was starting to get colder as the day gave way to night.

"So," Cooper started. "What's going on with you and Miller?"

"Me and who?" I feigned innocence.

"Josh," he said as if I actually hadn't understood him.

I shook my head and chuckled. "You are worse than Cami," I told him, as I returned my attention back to the field.

"Who's Cami?" he asked.

"My best friend," I told him. "She's the one that dragged me to your party last week."

"The one with the perky ass?" he asked.

"Cooper!" I hissed. I slapped him in the arm, but we both ended up laughing. "But yeah, that's her."

"Can I get her number?" he asked.

"No," I told him with an amused smile, as I returned my attention to the field yet again.

The game started and we won. Although I had so many notes on what they could have done better. When you grew up with Noah, you learned to notice when somebody was playing badly. Cooper snapped a couple of good photos and we left immediately after.

"What do you think you are going to write the article about?"Cooper asked as I pulled out of the parking spot and we were immediately stalled due to the back up of cars leaving.

"I'm not sure," I told Cooper.

"I'm sure that you'll come up with something," Cooper said as he fiddled with the settings on his camera.

I hummed in agreement as I focused on the road. We drove back to Cooper's house and it was almost nine.

"Do you want to come inside?" he asked.

I didn't, but I did have something in the backseat that I needed to return. "I just need to drop something off," I told him.

He looked pleasantly surprised that I took him up on his offer.

I reached into the backseat and I grabbed Josh's jacket. I opened the door to the car and we both hopped out. I went around the front of the car and Cooper and I walked up to the house side by side, while he talked aimlessly about the game and how great it was. It became blindinly apparent to me that he knew nothing about football.

Cooper walked right in as if he owned the place, which I suppose he did. "Hey guys! We're back!"

"We're in the living room!" Danny's voice called back.

Cooper led me to the living room. We see Danny laying on the floor surrounded by dolls, and Josh laid back on the couch with Mila sitting next to him. Both Mila and Josh's ankles were crossed, as were their arms, they both didn't move their eyes from the screen as The Simpsons played on the television.

Danny turned around to look at us. "Hey Lili! What are you doing here?"

Mila and Josh both looked over at the sound of my name.

"Lili!" Mila exclaimed. She hopped off of the couch and ran over to me. She wrapped her tiny arms around my legs.

"Hi Mila," I said with a smile. I bent down and I held her in my arms. "How are the boys treating you?" I ask.

Mila giggled, "It's great! Uncle Josh gave me two cookies, and Uncle Cooper gave me two cookies, and Daddy gave me two cookies, so I had six cookies," she not quite whispered in my ear.

I looked up accusingly at the boys who were looking around at each other. "Did you guys get played by a two year old?" I asked the three grown men in front of me, with a teasing tone in my voice. They all looked at one another and then back, at me and then at each other again.

"Did we?" Danny asked.

"I think we did," Cooper said, incredulously.

I just roll my eyes and smile. "You've got these boys around your finger," I told Mila.

The theme song to The Simpsons played on the tv.

"Are you guys sure that The Simpsons is appropriate for a two year old?" I ask the guys.

"I'm almost three," Mail told me.

"Of course you are," I agreed, with a smile at her. Then I glanced back accusingly at the boys.

"It's a cartoon," Josh defended them.

"That's BS," I said.

"We got tired of watching Cocomelon," Danny attempted to defend.

"Cocomelon!" Mila cheered. "Can we watch Cocomelon? Please, please, please..."

"You said it!" Cooper yelled at Danny. He took a cushion off of the couch and threw it at his friend on the floor. "Idiot!"

I laughed at their antics.

"Can we help you with something Blondie or are you just here to yell at us about how we parent?" Josh asked.

I found it incredibly cute how Josh said, how "we" parent and not how Danny parents.

"Honestly, she is going to start repeating the things that you guys are saying," I told them.

"That's what I've been telling these dipshits!" Cooper exclaimed.

"Swear Jar!" Danny and Josh yelled at him.

Cooper made a face at them but put a dollar in a jar on the coffee table. The jar was pretty full. I looked more closely at the jar. One one side is written Swear Jar on the other it says Mila's college fund.

"I actually came in to return this," I told Josh. I set Mila carefully back on the floor and I handed the varsity jacket to Josh.

Josh smiled cockily, and took the jacket from my hands. "Thanks Blondie," he said.

"Don't call me that," I reminded him. Then I felt the manners that my dad taught me kicking in. "Thank you for lending it to me."

"Anytime," he told me.

"I've got to go," I told the boys and Mila. "I have to work in the morning." All the boys nodded. "Mila, Danny, Josh, it's been a pleasure as always. Cooper, I'll see you Monday."

"Bye!" they chorused as I let myself out of the house.
