Valentine's had arrived, and it was overly difficult for Haley to not barf at everything red and pink or the couples crowding the hallways.

She was currently sitting in the cafeteria eating alone, and talking to Kurt on the phone.

"I'm curious. Did he ever actually say you two were dating?" Haley asked.

"Well not in so many words."

"Did he put the moves on?" She asked.

"No, but we were always singing duets, and he was always smiling at me." he explained.

"Oh Kurt..." She sighed.

"Oh, my god, I made up the whole thing in my head, didn't I?" He sighed.

"That's okay...It happens with everyone." She assured him.

"Well it isn't looking too good. I have a crush on him, but he's in love with someone else. Who he is serenading at the Gap. I'll be devastated if it works." he said.

"I'm in your situation too..excluding the crush, serenade and the Gap." Haley sighed.

"Should-Should I go?"

"Yes! Go and scope out the competition you know? You two are both so guy crazy... I mean, sure I don't have a date or boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and I could give a rip.." Haley said. Even though they both knew she was hiding her sadness behind her facade.

"Okay..I guess I'll go." He said.

"Yeah." she agreed as she saw Sam walking towards her table.. "Oh, sorry Kurt I have to go."

She hung up and smiled up at Sam as he approached her.

"Mind if I sit?" He asked.

"I would say it's a free country...but we have our problems." She said in response. "Anyways what can I help you with?" She asked, after he had sat down.

"I saw it. Their faces were, like, right up next to each other. Kissing distance."

"Huh?" she asked. She wished he would've noticed she wasn't in the mood to be talking about this especially on Valentine's Day.

"And I mean...Why hasn't she kissed Finn at his booth yet?" He continued.

"Look, I know she's been distant...But you are all up in her business, assuming she kissed Finn. I'm a little confused, because it seems you are annoyed that she hasn't kissed him." She replied.

"It's weird, okay!?" He explained. "Something seems off."

"I think your idea of what is going on is a little insane." she said.

"Everyone thinks I'm dumb." He sighed.

"No, not everyone." she said, trying to offer him some comfort.

"But I'm not. At least, not about Quinn. She may play it cool, but she has her ambitions." he sighed.

"Trust me Sam, I know." Haley said, annoyed. "She loves having status. She is obsessed with labels. She loves to be queen bee, and if she thinks that being with Finn will up her position in the food chain, she will do something about it."

"I don't know, Hay...I just think that there's something there, you know?"

Hearing this, Haley stood up and picked up her tray. She turned to walk off, but looked back at him. "Look it's not my problem, I don't mean to sound rude, but Quinn is your girlfriend, not me." she said before walking away, as tears began to fall down her face.

"Hay, wait!" he yelled after her. He sighed, his heart aching realizing that he had made her upset. Haley was the next person he really cared about. He scolded himself, and attempted to fight the weird feeling in his stomach, that he had whenever Haley was around.

Later that evening, Santana and Haley entered Breadstix. Santana had a plan to get Haley and Sam together, so if he was here, her plan was on track. As they got inside, they spotted Sam sitting alone.

"You should go over there." Santana urged Haley who shook her head.

"He's probably waiting for Quinn." she responded.

"You're never going to know if you don't go over there." Santana encouraged her.

"Fine." she complied, knowing Santana would keep persisting if she didn't obey.

Haley began to slowly walk over to Sam. As she approached, she took a deep breath before speaking.

"Hey, is this seat taken?" she asked.

He jumped, but sent her a smile. "Nope."

"Why are you here all alone? Where's Quinn?" She asked.

"Honestly, I don't know." He said.

"Oh, I'm so sorry" She replied.

"It's okay...I'm sure we'll work it out." He replied

"Well, that's good. A relationship has its ups and downs. Things will work out, I'm sure of it." She smiled. "Still it sucks." She added, before realizing they hadn't talked since the previous day. Continuing to talk she said. "I'm really sorry about being a brat the other day in the cafeteria." she apologized.

"Don't worry, you were right. I shouldn't have unloaded all my problems about my relationship. It was unsentive." He apologized.

"Please, I get it. I might never have been in a romantic relationship before, but I can understand wanting to rant your problems to someone, who is willing to listen." She assured him.

"Well, thank you again." He said, holding her hand across the table. He thought about telling her that him and Quinn had broken up, but he decided to keep it to himself. Some things left unsaid were good right?

The two of them continued to talk, as he showed her more impressions, making her laugh. This made his heart feel very happy, just as it did hers.

"Testing, one, two, three. Testing, one, two, three." Kurt said, speaking into the microphone.: Alright. So happy Valentine's Day, everybody. For those of you Breastix patrons who don't know who I am, I am Kurt Hummel, and welcome to my first ever Lonely Hearts Club dinner. Whether you are single with hope or madly in love and are here because I forced you to come out and support me, sit back and enjoy."

He smiled at everyone in the room. Haley sent him a smile and a wave, which he returned.

"And to all the singles out there, this is our year." He finished before joining the Warblers as they began to sing.

As they sang, Sam and Haley laughed and danced to the music. Haley realized that although, despite her envy of romantic relationships, and past struggles, she was somewhat happy and content.

Later that evening, Haley sat alone in the kitchen on her phone as she eat a bowl of cereal. She was the only one up, so she assumed. She heard someone walking down the stairs. She turned to see Burt who sent her a soft smile.

"Hey." she said quietly, as he entered the kitchen.

"Hi, what are you doing up late?" He asked

"Honestly, I just have a lot on my mind that's preventing me from sleeping." she replied, playing with her cereal.

"Anything you want to talk about?" He asked.

She sighed. "Do you really want to hear my thoughts and struggles? I feel like I'm burdening you."

"Try me." He sent her an encouraging look.

"Well." She began, looking away, before turning back to look at him. She tried to formulate and convey how she was feeling to the best of her abilities.

"All my friends think that I am in love with Sam." she started.

"Are you?" He asked.

" I don't know. I haven't really felt loved before so I don't know. But... I care about him, I can't stop thinking about him, we have a genuine connection, he makes me laugh, I love spending time with him." She rambled

"Well, do you think about him when he isn't around?" He questioned.

"When I see something funny, I always think. "Oh Sam would like this or Sam would laugh at that or, I wish he was here so I could share it with him." she said, close to tears.

"Haley, that sounds like love to me." He said knowingly.

"It doesn't matter anyway...he's in love with someone else. I guess all I can say is 'poor me.' I mean who would ever love me? I'm crazy, aren't I?" she asked, looking up as she wiped the tears falling down. It felt good to talk about it with someone who was a true parent to her.

"Honey. If you guys are supposed to end up together, you two will find a way to each other. Love always finds a way. Trust me on that. You aren't crazy. I believe you genuinely care about him, from your detailed explanation. You are going to find someone. I mean, whoever you end up is going to be so fortunate. You are a wonderful person, even with the sarcastic and occasionally rude layer, inside remains a vulnerable and beautiful personality." He said as he brought her into a hug.

"Thank you." She said, sniffling.

"Now go try to get some sleep." He smiled at her as he left the kitchen.

Haley sighed, picking up her bowl and leaving it in the sink. She wandered upstairs and grabbed her ukulele, walking out onto the balcony. As she looked up at the stars, she began to talk.

"I don't know if some god exists up there, but if you can hear me... All I want is someone. Someone who truly loves me. I don't ever want to love a guy who loves someone else. It truly feels painful." She looked down, before looking back up and continuing. "I know I might be a burden, but I feel like I can't lift this weight of being one off my shoulders. So, I might be asking for too much, but in reality, I just want someone to love me." She teared up and began to strum her ukulele. However, what she didn't realize was that as she was singing, Sam was walking by her house, and had managed to hear the whole thing.
