《Petrichor - e.mikaelson》09

Frankie made sure to take the full five minutes to leave Alaric's apartment and when Klaus saw her coming down the apartment steps, she made sure to slow her pace, purposely moving slower to make him angry. By the time she reached the car he was seething and when she tugged at the handle, it actually took her two attempts for her to use enough force to open the car door. She slid in in a similar manner, surprise catching her as Klaus used his speed to lean over and buckle her seatbelt for her, too impatient to bother waiting for her to continue her ludicrous game.
Frankie screwed up her face and snorted out a laugh, he was so easy to rile up. She was pissed about how he'd hurt her brother and that he'd been such a tool about the whole evening and she was planning to annoy him into submission.
The car pulled from the curb quickly and in minutes they were on the road exiting Mystic Falls, Frankie was planning to ask where exactly they were going now when she realised that it was only them alone in the car.
"Where are the others?" she asked, her fingers fiddling with the air-conditioning controls in front of them in boredom.
"What others?"
"Rebekah," she spoke slowly, as though he was dumb, "Your sister, and Stefan your little puppet."
"They're staying behind."
"And I'm coming with you because. . . " here she trailed off, she could see Klaus' hands whitening around the wheel and she made a mental note to perhaps ease up on the taunting, at least until he wasn't behind the wheel of a car she was in.
"Because I'm keeping you safe," he snapped, "Be quiet."
Frankie rolled her eyes but did as she was told. Klaus' rage in the past twenty four hours was extreme and it seemed even now he hadn't found an outlet for it, she'd perhaps be better of not pushing right now lest he discover that taking it out on her was the right outlet.
She considered tugging her phone out of her pocket to message her brother and ask if he'd talked to Elena, perhaps Stefan was reunited with her and that's why Klaus left them be? She considered pulling it out, but she didn't. She didn't know if Klaus was going to hide it away from her again if he remembered it and so instead, she hoped if she kept it tucked away he might just forget and she could use it on the road.
Glancing at the clock on the dashboard, she saw it was late, nearly midnight, Frankie wondered where they were headed. They'd pulled onto a highway now, Klaus taking each turn as though he had the route memorised in his head. Yawning softly, she allowed her eyes to fall closed as she tucked her feet onto the dash in front of her, crossing her arms across her chest in an attempt to get comfortable to sleep.
-
The buzzing of her phone in her pocket was what pulled Frankie awake, the sun was up around them and the car was still speeding down the highway. They were in a greener area than Mystic Falls but that was all that seemed different, more trees, denser woods, less cars. Shifting up in her seat, Frankie yawned as she looked out the window, internally debating whether or not to answer the phone. On the one hand, she'd rather not have it confiscated on day one, on the other, what point was there to having a phone if she didn't use it.

Unsurprisingly, it was Klaus who made the decision for her, breaking the silence between them, his eyes steady on the road.
"Answer it," he told her. Her head spun to his in surprise, she couldn't hear a thing, it was on the lowest buzzer it was only that her entire body had been pressed against it that she'd felt the call at all. Klaus tapped his ears, "Super hearing, answer it. It's rung twice in a row."
"Huh," she said in surprise, tugging the phone from her pocket and pulling it to her ear without glancing at the contact, "Hello?"
"He left me," a shrill voice called down the phone, "He actually left me! I can't believe the bloody bastard would take off without us. Where are you, I'll come and-"
"Rebekah," Frankie cut her off, "I'm not in Mystic Falls anymore."
Rebekah was speechless for a moment, "What do you mean? Nik wouldn't let you off on your own, not without Elijah-"
"Not on my own," she grimaced, holding the phone out to Klaus who she knew by now was listening.
"Little sister," Klaus called into the phone, "Don't fret I'll be back soon enough."
Frankie didn't need super hearing to hear Rebekah's threats as she called down the phone with rage, both her and Klaus screwed up their faces at the shrillness of her anger but eventually she simmered down and she tugged the phone back to her ear.
"Sorry," she told her, "I didn't know you weren't coming with us until we were already leaving. I'm sure you know your brother isn't exactly one for free will."
She did feel bad for Rebekah. Rebekah had been undaggered after a century of nothing only for Klaus to use her for his own means and then abandon her when she didn't fit into his plan anymore. Although there wasn't anything she could do to fix it, she hoped that Rebekah would be able to figure it out, hopefully without murdering too many of the residents of Mystic Falls.
Rebekah let out a haughty sigh, "You tell my brother that if he doesn't get me out of this boring little town soon-"
Rebekah was cut off as Klaus snatched the phone from Frankies hand, using his free hand he hung up for her before tossing it to her lap. Letting out something halfway between a gasp of surprise and a laugh, Frankie turned to stare at him.
"Just because you're not going to kill me doesn't mean she won't after that," she told him, unlocking her phone to send Rebekah a text.
"Oh she'll get over it," Klaus assured her with a smirk on his face, he already seemed more jovial and lighthearted than the night before, "She's fickle but she wouldn't touch a hair on your head."
"And is it time for Elijah to explain it to me why," she pressed, an expectant look on her face.
"No," Klaus told her, his face falling cold, "I will undagger him when it is safe to do so, but not yet. I need to build my army first, end my enemies before I can revive my family."
"Ugh," she groaned, "Where are we going?"
"We're going to make more hybrids."
"But, I thought you didn't kill Elena?"
"Indeed, a lovely little trick from my mother, that one," he explained, "Although I needed the doppelgänger dead for my ritual, I need her blood to make my hybrids."

"Damn," she replied under her breath, "Aren't you glad they saved her. Is that why Stefan got to skip out on part two of the road trip?"
"Stefan is compelled to obey my every command," he snapped harshly, annoyed by her sarcastic passive aggression, "Would you like to join him?"
"Do I get to get out of the car?"
Frankie could only just hear his reply as he muttered under his breath, "The last one was much quieter."
-
It'd barely been a week since Klaus and Frankie had left Mystic Falls but the total number of hybrids in the world had grown exponentially. Klaus was delighted by the success of his plan and while Frankie couldn't really give less of a shit, though she did prefer when he wasn't sulking like a little kid.
They were in Oregon now, traipsing through the woods for the next pack Klaus was planning on killing against their will, the pair were on fairly good terms, but there were still times when one would step on the others toes, pushing farther than they were willing. It was interesting to see the similarities between the two at times, how closed off they could be about things.
Frankie's phone was buzzing in her pocket, she'd felt it move several times now and she ignored it but with the fifth message she pulled it out, glancing at the sender and shoving it immediately back into her pocket.
"I can kill him for you," Klaus told her, watching her reaction as she tucked her phone away instantly.
"Don't you dare," she snapped at him, her eyes flicking up into a glare, "stay out of it."
"I've seen what he says to you," he confessed.
On their journey Klaus usually compelled them separate rooms, he trusted enough that she wasn't going to run if he turned his back, that and then they certainly needed the space from one another at night after a day of hunting werewolves.
They usually had their own rooms but there had been one night where only one was available, it hadn't been an issue, a cot had been brought up but Klaus had walked by her phone at one point and seen what Mitch, her ex, was saying.
Frankie was in the shower at the time and her phone wouldn't stop buzzing, really he'd only intended on turning off its incessant noise but as he lifted it up, he caught sight of the messages flooding in, what he was saying and how he was threatening her. When she'd left the shower she'd gone straight to bed, uninterested in conversing and Klaus didn't mention what he'd seen, for once not wanting to poke at a wound.
"Mind your own business," she growled.
They were near the campsite, she could see it up ahead and she pointedly sped up her pace so she was walking a few paces in front.
"If I don't kill him, Elijah will."
At this she froze before spinning on her heel, a glower had filled her face as she looked up as threateningly as she could make herself. Standing a half a foot shorter and on the incline of a hill didn't help but her hand rose to press her finger against his chest as she spoke.
"If either of you touch him I will find a way to fucking murder you," Klaus didn't seem threatened in fact his face quirked up into an amused smile, "it's not a discussion, if either of you kill someone for me I'm coming for you."
Klaus had his hands up in a mock surrender, if she didn't want him to fight her battles he wouldn't argue with her. He'd step in if need be but for now she wasn't in any danger and he didn't care to push it. He was in a good mood, he knew this pack was likely to be large and he was excited for his army to grow.
Their argument earlier had soured Frankies mood, she didn't know why she was so furious at the thought of either Klaus or the dead Elijah going after Mitch. She did actually, she certainly didn't like Mitch anymore, they weren't in love and now she wasn't sure if they ever were, but she didn't want him dead, and she certainly didn't want him dead at her hand. No, she wanted him out of her life, she wanted to just move on.
Klaus' phone was ringing and she watched as he tugged it to his ear with a grin, "Portland is fantastic. Once you get over all the whiny music and healthy looking people, it is literally a breeding ground for werewolves."
Klaus' face fell in an instant, his mood minutes earlier from the two dozen hybrids he just created dissolved as a snarl appeared on his lips.
"What did you say to me?" he growled lowly, Frankie stood and was walking closer to him, hoping somehow to know what had happened, "Well, first," he continued, "I want you to explain to me exactly what happened."
The next minute or so was tense, whatever had happened shook Klaus so firmly to the core that even when the phone was hung up and she asked him if he was okay he didn't reply, turning away with a frown on his face.
He did tell her about what Stefan had told him on the call eventually, but not until they were in the air on their way back to Mystic Falls.
"I don't want you coming tonight," Klaus told her, after he'd explained what Stefan had done to his father and the party he planned to throw in place of the homecoming, "I don't trust him."
"Didn't Rebekah tell you it was true?" she questioned, tossing her phone into the air and catching it, bored as she laid back. They were on a private plane and whilst Klaus had brought two of his more sycophantic hybrids, the rest had flown commercial. As a result, their flight had two hybrids catering to their every need while she lay back, bored as she watched the clouds fly by.
"I don't trust her."
"You don't trust anyone."
Klaus grinned a toothy grin in acquiescence before moving on, "Nevertheless, Robert will stay with you at your brothers apartment. After I am victorious and I ensure Mikael is dead, I will reunite my family, our family. When he is dead I will wake Elijah and you will have your answers, I guarantee you that."
