also a hint on who the devil is: hotdog :)

"Jimin-Hyung?'
Jungkook wandered around aimlessly, completely puzzled as to how the older male could have seemingly disappeared into thin air.
Jimin had been gone for over a half hour, and there was no trace of him anywhere.
The air outside was frigid, goosebumps arising on his skin as he continued walking; he wasn't even sure why he was so... Obsessed with the male he had met less than two weeks ago, but he felt drawn to him - desperate to keep him in his life.
"You call him Hyung? That's cute." The voice startled Jungkook so much that he jumped, hand flying up to his chest and feeling his rapid pulse beneath it. His gaze finally caught on a male that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Jungkook would've known if he was there beforehand, he had scanned the entire area looking for Jimin.
His hair was ruffled and unruly, the brunette strands obscuring his vision and sticking up at various angles. Jungkook could see bags under his eyes, and a frown on his face.
The male took a step closer, the light from the street lamp that was cast upon him now illuminating the striking green pigment of his eyes. "Why might you be looking for him? Has he captivated you? He's just so perfect, who could resist him?" His words sounded bitter, Jungkook gulping as he walked even closer.
"He has it easy. He's all good looks and pleasing sounds. He was given everything and the rest of us are forced to scramble for the leftovers." He narrowed his eyes, gaze meeting Jungkook's. "How can you not hate people like him? Don't they make you want to take all that they have? Wouldn't it be so fun to see them have nothing at all, and to gain everything that you wanted?"
"Who are you?" Jungkook's voice trembled, the male's words weaving around his mind and striking fear throughout his entire body.
"Me? I'm a... Friend of Jimin's." He smiled coyly. "You can call me Hoseok though, if you'd like."
"You don't sound like you're friends with him." Jungkook commented. "From the way that you talk about him you'd think that you two are enemies."
"Don't get me wrong, I do... Admire Jimin." Hoseok stepped fowards once more, beginning to walk away from Jungkook. "But isn't it human nature to be jealous?"
Jungkook second guessed himself for a moment before he jogged over to catch up to Hoseok, reaching out and grabbing his shoulder.
He immediately turned around, raising an eyebrow as he waited for the other to speak. His eyes shone like emeralds, leaving Jungkook speechless for a moment as he observed them up close.
"You said that you know Jimin. Do you know where he might be?" He used all of his effort to not let his voice tremble, attempting to keep his nerves at bay as he spoke to the intimidating male.
Hoseok's lips turned up into a smirk, nodding slowly and motioning for Jungkook to follow.
"Trusting a stranger so quickly? You're a risk taker, are you?" It was probably just his imagination, but Jungkook felt as if the air grew colder as he walked beside Hoseok. The sky seemed to grow darker as well, making Jungkook sure that he wouldn't be able to find his way back home until the morning. "That can be a good thing. I've been told that I am too."

"I've heard." He was terrified, but he knew that he couldn't turn back now. Hoseok didn't look like he had any weapons on him anyway, it's just that his aura seemed to strike fear into Jungkook's veins.
How could someone like this be friends with someone like Jimin?
"Right in here." Hoseok nodded his head towards an apartment building that Jungkook hadn't even noticed that they arrived at. "Not far at all from where you were looking. Jimin and his... Friend Yoongi live on the fourth floor."
"You think he would've gone home?" Jungkook asked. "He didn't even say goodbye. He said he'd be back."
"He doesn't think that goodbyes are necessary." Hoseok pushed open the front door and walked into the building, crossing the lobby and checking over his shoulder once or twice to make sure that Jungkook was still there. "Compassion isn't something that he's good at."
Jungkook frowned as he followed Hoseok through the lobby of the apartment building, the feeling of doubt now beginning to flow through his veins.
"You sound like you've known him for a long time." Jungkook mumbled, watching as Hoseok pulled open the door to the stairwell.
Hoseok smiled softly and nodded, beginning to walk up the first flight of stairs.
"I've known him since he first stepped foot on earth." He hummed, goosebumps forming on Jungkook's arms as he ascended up the dimly lit stairwell. Their voices echoed in the small space, creating an even more unsettling environment for them to be in. "How long have you known him?"
"Just over a week." Jungkook mumbled, feeling very small in Hoseok's presence. It was strange, because he'd like to think he was usually confident, but the aura Hoseok had was unlike any other person he had met.
"And you're already so attached?" Hoseok asked, chuckling under his breath. He tapped his fingers along the handrail as he walk up the last flight of stairs, the sound of his boots echoing against the concrete stairs. "You're already so far gone."
Hoseok grabbed hold of the door handle to the door that led to the fourth floor, pausing for a moment and turning around. His lips turned up into a sly smirk, gaze piercing straight through Jungkook. "Be careful."
A shiver went down Jungkook's spine as Hoseok spoke the words in such a menacing tone, paralyzed for a moment as he watched the other push open the door. The artificial light from the light fixture casting harsher shadows across Hoseok's face before he turned around and began to lead Jungkook into the building further.
Jungkook took a deep breath, regaining his composure before he followed the stranger. "You're not the one in control anymore."

"I've been dreading the day that I had to come back here."
Jimin sighed, the two horns that he always donned whenever he entered hell poking up from out of his unbrushed hair.
He bent down and gently pet the devil's dog who had greeted him when he arrived, taking a deep breath as he began to walk down the pathway that led to the devil's throne.
And when he caught sight of her, he gulped.
Out of all of the incarnations that the devil has had, this one was definitely a favourite.
In Jimin's eyes, she looked much less intimidating than the earlier incarnation. The sharp, menacing features of the last incarnation were replaced but soft eyes and shoulder length brown hair. Her eyes had changed from a bright red to a dark burgundy, glinting in the sparse light.

The last version of the devil that Jimin saw before going to earth was male, with a menacing glare and ram like horns protruding from his forehead. But this incarnation looked much friendlier, two small horns poking up from out of her hair.
She looked much calmer than before as well, but Jimin's eased nerves diminished the moment that she opened her mouth.
"I really am disappointed in you."
Her voice was cold. She lay down horizontally on a lavish thrown, legs dangling over one of the armrests. Her feet were clad in tall high heels, the deep red tone of them matching her eyes. "I thought you would at least have a bit of self control."
"Master," Jimin began, voice as calm as he could get it as he took a step closer. "I thought that the point of my being was to disregard the concept of self control."
The devil rolled her eyes, swinging her legs around and turning her body so that she could face Jimin directly.
"But I also made rules, and I expect you to listen to them." Her words became more bitter as she went on, painted black fingernails tapping against the armrest. "I created you Jimin, therefore I own you. You have some freedom, but in the end you're just my experiment." She narrowed her eyes, "You do what I say. And you damn well know from what happened to Hoseok as to what happens when you disobey me."
Jimin's eyes widened, the cold feeling of fear washing over him.
"Master I... I'm sorry. I know what I did was wrong, but I don't think that I need a punishment for it."
The devil laughed softly, brushing a few pieces of light brown hair out of her eyes as she leaned back in her chair. "I will learn from my mistakes." Jimin was shaking at this point, attempting to keep his expression strong as he stared into the devil's eyes.
"Jimin, I know that you know you're my favourite of the six." The devil sighed, voice all too sweet as she spoke. "But I'm not giving you any special treatment because of it." She adjusted the neckline of her pitch black robe as she sat forwards. Jimin gulped and let out a shaky breath as she raised an eyebrow at him. "Did you expect me to?"
"N-No!" Jimin exclaimed all to quickly, struggling to regain his composure afterwards. "Of course not, Master. But you have to know that I didn't know I was doing any wrong!"
"But it was still wrong." The devil stood up, stepping down from her throne and taking a few slow steps towards Jimin. Her high heels clicked on the floor with each step, her robe dragging on the ground behind her. "I don't make exceptions, and you know that."
Jimin felt tears welling up in his eyes at the thought of what would happen to him. He could still remember Hoseok's muffled screams as the acidic waters engulfed him. The quiet sound of the river beside him reminded him of his fate.
He cast his gaze downwards, arms crossing over his chest in an attempt to shield himself from whatever may come as she walked closer. The devil sighed softly, placing her hand on Jimin's shoulder and turning him around. "At least now you'll know what you willingly let Hoseok endure." She mumbled, walking forwards once more and backing Jimin up until he stood right at the edge of the platform.
"Please." Jimin whispered, a tear rolling down his cheek as he looked into the devil's eyes. "I've learned from my mistakes, I won't do it again."
The devil shook her head.
"I'm sorry Jimin, but you'll never learn if you don't get equal treatment to everyone else." And with that, she pushed against Jimin's chest; causing the demon to lose his balance, falling backwards into the waters behind him.
Jimin could remember feeling terror flow through his veins the few moments before his back hit the water, locking eyes with the devil's almost apologetic gaze.
And then, he broke the surface of the water.
For the first few seconds, everything was fine. But the moment he moved, Jimin remembered where he really was - hell.
His skin began to burn, flailing limbs feeling as if their flesh was being ripped off, desperately trying to swim to the surface as he continued to sink deeper. He opened his mouth to scream - a terrible mistake. His throat began to burn, feeling as if he was being torn apart from the inside out.
He wanted to know if the pain he was feeling was causing physical marks, but he was too afraid to open his eyes - terrified of the pain and damage he might have to endure if he did.
He felt like he was being torn to shreds, red hot pain searing through every inch of his body as he cried out once more, still doing his best to swim to the surface; though with each movement the pain intensified. It was torturous. His skin felt as if he was blistering all over, the acidity of the water creating the sensation of being burned alive.
His movements were frantic, desperately clawing at the water in hopes that he was getting nearer to the surface. He didn't even think the water was that deep, but his pursuit towards the dry land seemed endless.
The moment his hand broke the surface of the water, it was if a weight lifted off of Jimin's shoulders. He struggled to grip at the slippery tile floor, and his body was almost too weak to pull him up, but there was no way he was going to stay victim to the waters for any longer than he needed to.
He pulled himself up, immediately collapsing onto the floor and taking in a few gasping breaths.
"I know it's harsh, but you have to learn your place." The devil sighed, watching as Jimin curled his knees up to his chest, a few tears leaking out from his closed eyelids. "You making relationships like that with the other sins distracts them from that they need to do. You're the most influential out of all of them, and so you need to learn a bit of self control."
Jimin nodded softly, water droplets dripping off of his hair and rolling down his face. He could still feel his skin stinging and burning all over, even moving his arm causing pain to shoot through his entire body. "You understand?"
"Y-Yes, Master." Jimin whimpered, entire body trembling as he continued to cry softly.
The devil shook her head and sighed, running a hand through her hair and taking a few steps towards Jimin's quivering form. She prodded his shoulder with the toe of her high heel, easing an eyebrow when he hissed in pain, eyes shooting open.
"Get back to earth Jimin." She ordered, the demon staring up at her with wide eyes. "You've learned your lesson, now go."
And Jimin would've been up and running towards the nearest entrance to earth, if he wasn't so scared to move.
"Go, Jimin." She repeated, much more sternly this time, as she kicked his shoulder harder.
It was then that he remembered, he was just property.
And that in hell, you're nothing.

The first 49 chapters are just a prologue, giving a long (135,000+ words) introduction to the main character, the power system, and how she obtained her powers--all within the forest she awoke within. You will not learn why the novel has its name. There are only 5 characters, 1 of which is the MC and only another of which is recurring for a time.I do have plans for future books of the series, but they aren't getting written for a long time because this was just a side project to practice the basics of storytelling and whatnot. I will instead be working on my real projects. This is a slow story that doesn't pander to the audience, but I hope you enjoy it, nonetheless.
