《Inside Job (FNAF: SB Rewrite)》Chapter 8 - Betrayal

Lunch was awkward. Since I didn't manage to get the pepperoni on the pizza in time, I was given a plain cheese pizza. We were at the entrance for Fazer Blast, and since the kitchen was now overtaken by those cupcakes, Chica had to leave me here for a brief moment to grab the pizza out of the oven. I sat on a swivel chair by a counter and ate slowly while Chica eyed the pizza.
"Is something wrong?" I asked. "No, no," she turned away. "It's just... that pizza. It looks so good."
"Can you even eat pizza?" An animatronic like her wouldn't need food or nutrition.
"I actually can," she said proudly. "I'm programmed to enjoy specific tastes."
"Huh, well, in that case, do you wanna share?" I slid the pizza across the counter towards her. "There's no way I can eat this whole thing anyways."
"Thanks!" She could barely say anything before she had stuffed her beak with pizza. I watched her tear her slices apart.
"Wow, you eat fast," I noted.
"It's a talent of mine," she joked. "How's your leg?"
After our little fight, Chica still mended for my injuries. "It's fine," I answered.
"You up for some games? We can play some Fazer Blast or head to the arcade," she said. "But, um, we should stay away from Monty Golf and Roxy's Raceway."
Right, Freddy doesn't want me around Monty and Roxy. "I could play some Fazer Blast," I said. Chica handed me a pass. "Give this to the S.T.A.F.F. bot at the entrance and it'll let you in," she told me. "I'll meet you inside, I've gotta clean this up."
She picked up the plates and pizza box while I gave my pass to the S.T.A.F.F. bot. It did a little dance and then unlocked the entrance for me. I walked through and the door shut behind me. The room was one long hallway lined with bright lights and a railing. I started walking through when I heard something from the other side of the door.
"Roxy! What are you doing here?" Chica said loudly. She was probably trying to subtly warn me that Roxy was here without alerting her. I quietly made my way down the hallway and listened to their conversation.
"Looking for you," Roxy said. "Your kitchen's infested with cupcakes, by the way."
"It's a long story... Do you need something?" Chica asked.
"I wanted to update you about Freddy."
I stopped in my tracks. I wanted to hear this.
"Right, Freddy's repairs. How is he?" Chica asked.
Roxy sighed. "Not good. They said they think it'll take a couple days."
A couple days? But he's been working fine! He may have crashed during a performance, but that doesn't mean his systems are still malfunctioning. He's clearly much better than before.
There was a pause. "Oh," Chica said.
"Are you worried?" Roxy asked. Chica giggled, "Aw, you're scared aren't you? Relax, Freddy will be fine, he always is."
"I'm not worried about Freddy, I'm worried for you," Roxy clarified. "You always do this when you're anxious. You come up here, eat an ungodly amount of pizza, and play these games to distract yourself."
"I'm not nervous," Chica said.
"What are you going to do if he's replaced?" Roxy asked bluntly.
"He won't be."
"They're considering it."
"I said he won't be."

Another pause. "Okay then," Roxy said.
"Now, if you excuse me," Chica said, "I'm gonna play some Fazer Blast. By myself. And not because I'm anxious! Hmpf!" The way she spoke was cartoonish, as if to lift the tension that had risen between them.
She stomped away from Roxy and to the entrance of Fazer Blast. "Are we still on for girls night?" Roxy yelled after Chica. "Totally!" Chica responded. Then Chica entered the doorway.
When she saw me, she brought her finger to her beak as a sign to stay quiet and motioned to continue down the road. I continued down the hallway with her behind me.
Chica helped me put on the fazer helmet and gave me a fazer blaster. "Don't shoot in the eyes, 'kay?" I nodded.
I joined the red team while Chica played on the green team, so when our paths diverged, she said, "I'll see you in the arena!" Her hallway was lined with neon green lights while mine was a bright orange.
When I made it to the end of the hallway, the door opened and revealed a maze full of colorful panels and plastered art of Chica and Roxy. My objective was to capture all the flags while Chica was to try and stop me. I ran to my right and caught a glimpse of one of the flags. It was less of a flag and more of a checkpoint with a button. I pressed the button, and the announcer rang through the room that a flag had been captured.
S.T.A.F.F. bots crept over, and when I shot them with my blaster, they retreated. I could hear Chica's footsteps as she rushed to find me, and eventually I saw her from a distance. I had to keep the other team away from the checkpoint for another ten seconds if I wanted it to go to my score.
She spotted me and raised her fazer blast at me. She hit my helmet, which lowered my health. In retaliation I hit her back, but since she didn't wear a helmet, I struck her in the eyes.
"Ow! Gregory, what did I say?" she said, swinging her head back covering her eyes. "Oops, sorry!" I yelled back. For the fun of it, I shot her chest plate with the fazer blaster.
It didn't count as a point, but Chica must've heard the sound of the blaster and laughed. "I'm gonna get you for that!"
A ding sound played, finalizing my point from capturing the flag. It was time to move on to the next. I ran forward and decided to hide underneath one of the signs and wait for Chica to pass. When I crouched behind it, I saw something sticking out from between the panels. Curious, I picked it up.
It was hard to see because of the neon lights, but I could tell it was another VHS tape, like the one Sun had given me in the daycare. Sun's was simply a prototype video, but what could this be? My intrigue has been piqued.
After Chica had passed me, I took the VHS tape with me to the next checkpoint. It was once again on the lower floor, and I pressed the button. S.T.A.F.F. bots came chasing after me, and one even managed to hit my helmet lowering my health. I shot them all down, and the sound played again indicating the flag had been successfully captured. There was no sight of Chica.
I continued onward. This time, I used the ramp onto the elevated floor to capture the last flag. I pressed the button, and once again the S.T.A.F.F. bots made their way. This time they were able to hide behind panels with a hole to shoot through. I had to aim carefully, but I fended myself well and won the game.

"Haha! I won!" I celebrated, The S.T.A.F.F. bots made their way to the exit, and the announcer said it was time to leave and collect the prize. "Chica, I won!" I yelled playfully. I couldn't see her, but she should still be in this maze. I made my way down and placed my fazer blast in the return box. I waited for Chica to arrive, but she wasn't anywhere to be seen.
"I'll meet you outside, okay?" I yelled out to her, but there was no response. I hesitated, but I figured Chica would manage to find me on her own. I left the maze and walked through the winner's exit. At the end was my very own golden fazer blast. "Awesome," I said to myself.
I shoved the fazer blast into my pocket and kept hold of the VHS cassette. I wondered if I told Chica about the VCR Freddy and I found she would take me to watch this new tape. I walked out of the long hallways and finally made it back to the entrance of Fazer Blast. Roxy wasn't anywhere to be seen, either.
I looked around while I waited for Chica to come. There were toys lined up on shelves. Maybe it was a prize counter. The screens displayed art of Chica and Roxy with space helmets and fazer blasters. I wondered if they ever played this game together.
The door opened, and Chica's familiar frame appeared. "Chica, there you are!" I said. I moved the VHS tape in my hands so it would be more visible to her. "Look! I found this tape inside the maze. Freddy and I found a VCR down in one of the security offices, maybe we could watch it together!"
Chica didn't say anything. "Chica?" I mumbled. She stood slouched with her head down. Her arms were limp, and her legs were barely keeping her afloat. She didn't look injured or broken, she just stood awkwardly.
She took a step forward, and her arms swayed alongside her. "Chica, you're starting to scare me," I said. She lifted her head, and I could see her face. She took another step forward and spoke, "Gregory..."
"Chica, this isn't funny," I said. I hugged the cassette tightly and walked backwards. "Let me take you to your parents," she said, and she started to pick up her speed. Her face was weird. It didn't look broken or bashed up, but things were not connecting properly. Her eyes wandered in different directions and her jaw hung awkwardly off her top beak.
She suddenly lunged forward and swung her arm trying to swipe me. I managed to dodge it in time, but she quickly turned towards me. I pulled out the fazer blast and shot her in the eyes, and she squawked like a chicken, shaking her head. Without a second thought, I ran away.
I didn't have time to navigate around the S.T.A.F.F. bots, so I just hoped one of them wouldn't alert her where I was. I took out my faz watch and yelled, "Freddy! Can you hear me? Chica's evil!" I probably could have phrased that better, but I didn't have any time to think.
I could hear her thundering footsteps behind me. I ran as fast as I could, but the fast pace started to hurt my injured leg. I ran to one of the elevators and climbed inside. Quickly, I pressed the button and waited for the doors to close.
Chica saw me entering the elevator and she sprinted towards me. Luckily, the doors closed right before she could enter, and I felt the floor move as the elevator made its way down.
What just happened? One minute, we're having fun, and the next she chases after me like that? Did I do something wrong? Is she mad at me? What's Freddy going to say?
I held on to the VHS tape. I didn't have anywhere to go, so I decided to try and find my way to the security office with the VCR.
I jogged through the main plaza and looked for an entrance into the backrooms. Once I found one, I navigated through what felt like hundreds of rooms. Some were kitchens with a checkered pattern floor while others were laundry rooms connected through long hallways. Eventually I managed to find the office. I remembered the doors are battery powered and I couldn't use them unless absolutely necessary. I checked the perimeters to make sure no one was there, and once the coast was clear, I slid in the cassette tape into the player.
It was the same man from Sun's tape, except he was noticeably younger. He wasn't in the same garage either. It looked a bit more lit up and spacious with a couch in the middle. He adjusted the camera and then stepped back.
"Hi, heh" he waved and chuckled awkwardly. "I-I never know how to start these."
He took a deep breath. "Today," he began, "I was given the entirety of Fazbear Entertainment." He brushed his hair up with his hands. "I told myself that if I ever inherited Fazbear Entertainment, I would burn it to the ground," he said. "My father's robots were scary, to say the least." He must be the son of the original owner of Fazbear Entertainment.
"My therapist says that I shouldn't surround myself with my father," he continued. "She says it's not my responsibility to 'atone for his sins.' I don't have to live my life like he did, but, uhm..."
He sat down on the couch and fumbled with his hands. His face shifted uncomfortably. "They found him," he whispered. "Killed himself with a springlock suit. They found him dead, and now I am the owner of Fazbear Entertainment." He bit down on the inside of his mouth.
"I-I can still feel him, you know? As if he's standing behind me breathing down my neck," he stuttered nervously. His eyes shot around one of the corners of the room.
"I'm going to visit one of his locations tomorrow. It's like a warehouse that has several animatronics that he built that people rent out for birthday parties. I figured I could examine his work and see what I can do with it." He paused. "He was an evil man," he said, almost out of nowhere. He laughed to himself and said, "These animatronics that he built were not particularly safe. My sister, she... my brother too... he took everything from me."
He looked directly into the camera. "I know the perfect revenge for an evil like that. I'll turn his creations into something good, like how they used to be." He said it with melancholy and sadness, but his face formed a weak smile. His eyes were becoming red and puffy from holding back tears.
He smiled at the camera. "I'll keep you updated."
The video ended and the monitor displayed static. That was... quite sad. I hope he's doing okay . I took the VHS tape out and looked out the doors.
It did leave me with lots of questions. Who's his dad and what happened to his siblings? How unsafe were his animatronics? What did he mean by turning something evil into good?
I wondered how many more tapes there were around the building. So far, I've managed to find two, and they were about very drastically different things. The first was Sun's thrown away take while filming a prototype introduction, while this seemed much more personal, almost like a video diary of some kind. What they had in common was animatronics and this guy.
Interestingly enough, this tape does confirm some kind of criminal activity involved with the facility. If there are more tapes around, I'm sure one of them can be him spewing out all the crimes committed under the Fazbear name, and I can find the evidence I came here for.

participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge and also having a go at NaNoWriMo this November. This was a first draft published as it was written for Nanowrimo November 2020. A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.
