《Since You Been Gone》Chapter 23

Tris P.O.V.
"So, did you enjoy your night out?" Tobias asks, sitting down next to me on my couch. He just dropped off Lucas since I skipped my usual Sunday morning routine of going to church. Lucas has already ran off to his room, completely ignoring the fact that we hardly together yesterday.
"We had fun. Nothing too crazy, though," I answer. He nods in reply. Neither of us are really sure what to say so I move on to the next topic in my mind. "Do you think you could watch him again Tuesday night and take him to school Wednesday?" I ask.
"I guess. Why?" he asks. It almost seems like he cringes at the thought of him having to watch Lucas. I can already guess he knows what plans I have and he just wants them confirmed.
"I, um, have plans to go out. . ." I say. He raises one of his eyebrows and I automatically know he wants more than that. "On a date," I finish, my voice just above a whisper. He winces a little as if the news of my date physically harmed him.
"With who?" Tobias asks. Our of the corner of my eye I can see Lucas in his room where he already has toys thrown out all over his bedroom floor. He only uses about five of them, the others just sitting there watching the cars talk.
"Um, Albert Madsen. (A/N: He was never given an actual last name so I just used the actor's.) He went to high school with us. If you remember him, you probably remember the name Al," I say. He nods. I know he probably remembers him. He started hanging out with us around the time Christina started dating Will, which was when Will was still friends with Al.

"Yeah, I remember him. We only talked a few times, but I remember seeing him a lot the first two years," he says. I nod and conversation fizzles out until Lucas comes into the room. He tries to walk past me, but I manage to scoop him up on my lap.
"Hi, mommy," he says, repeating the exact same thing he said before running to his room to play with his toys. He wraps me in a hug this time, unlike when they first walked in. I ruffle his hair which Tobias immediately reaches over to fix.
"Don't mess with the hair, Tris. Us men have to have it perfect," he says. I roll my eyes Lucas looks at me and aims a finger at me.
"Yeah, mommy. Don't mess with my hair," he scolds me, making with sound like wiff due to being incapable of making a th sound. He shakes his finger a few times before putting it back down.
"Well, I apologize King Lucas for messing up you hair," I say. That receives laughter from both boys. I offer a smile.
"Can we do something together?" Lucas asks, once again messing up the th sounds. I nod.
"Yeah, we can after your daddy leaves," I say. He shakes his head.
"No, I want daddy to stay, too. So we can all be together," he replies. I shake my head and open my mouth to reply, but I am cut off when Tobias replies first.
"Lucas, I would be honored to stay over with you and your mom for a little while longer. Why don't you go pick out a game?" Tobias asks. He gives Lucas a smile as Lucas stands up and walks back into his room and opens up his closet door. I look over at Tobias who is smirking at me. I give him an evil glance that only causes an even more mischievous smile to captivate his face.

"How about this one?" Lucas asks as he walks back into the room with a long box. When he sits it down in front of me, I immediately recognize the box. It features a landscape of candy cane trees and chocolate rivers. The characters that are modeled after candies stand under the title: Candy Land.
"Oh, yeah! I can beat butt at this game!" Tobias exclaims. I giggle and give him a raised eyebrow, careful to only look away from Lucas for a little while since he will probably be stacking the cards so he can automatically move to the princess space at the end. "What? I can?" Tobias says in response to my questioning look.
"Well, I have beat Caleb Caleb's butt as this since we were three," I say. He chuckles and we both sit on the floor with Lucas. I watch Lucas picking through the cards. I take the stack from him and shuffle it again before setting it down on the colorful board.
"I go first!" Lucas exclaims as he picks up a card with a blue space on it. He moves his red gingerbread man up to the first blue space.
"Impressive, but not impressive enough," I say before flipping over a card. I get a yellow card so I move one space further than Lucas. Tobias shakes his head.
"First of all, this is a game of luck, Miss Prior. And second, that was my card. It goes to the right," he claims. I shake my head.
"It goes to the left," I say. I move a little bit closer to him. He smirks and moves closer to me.
"It's right," he says, I shake my head.
"Left."
"Right," he says. He moves his face closer to mine and I feel myself doing the same.
"Left," I whisper, moving my face a little closer. He does the same until there is less than an inch between us, our noses just barely touching. Our argument turns into a stare down, both of us trying our hardest to make the other surrender.
"Daddy just go!" Lucas says. We jump apart and I feel a blush rise on my cheeks. Tobias picks up the card and gets a green which is one space ahead of mine.
"Maybe it is left," he says with a smirk. I give him a smile, but I can't help the eyeroll that comes with it as we continue the game.
Why this update took so long is a mystery to me as well. I know this is so cliche and over used but I think it could be because of school. Today is the first of spring break so all of my teachers have been pushing tests... I had a test in every single class yesterday... Anyways, due to how eager I was to post this, I didn't take a lot of time to proof read so I apologize for mistakes. Please comment and vote! I love rading comments!
