《Since You Been Gone》Chapter 21

"And in today's entertainment news, it has been confirmed that Four Eaton, star quarterback for the Northern Illinois Bulldogs, is Lucas Prior's father. We are yet to hear news from the mother, Beatrice Prior, author of the New York Time's bestselling novel Moving On, or the father-" says the too perky news anchor on channel 12 before I manage to shut her up with the remote that I have been ready to chuck at the television screen every time I have watched it in the last twenty four hours. For the last two days, everything in the entertainment segment of the news has relolved around three faces: Lucas's, Tobias's, and mine.

"Tris, calm down. It's just what they are using to fill in time between the weather and important stories," Marlene says next to me on the couch. I give her a warm smile in reply.

"It's true. You'll be out of the news in at least a week. Trust me, no one will care when some singer is caught with drugs or an actor is caught stealing," Lynn says. Shauna nods in agreement.

"So, how do Four get you to come home?" Christina asks. She wiggles her eyebrows and I roll my eyes.

"Yeah, could Lucas have a little brother or sister in his future?" Shauna asks. I gasp and throw a pillow at her. They all should know that there is nothing going on between us. The only kind of affection we have shown towards each other are several hugs that, to me, have only been acts of a mending friendship.

"You all are gross. You know how careful I am about that kind of stuff," I say. Marlene takes my hand in hers and makes me look her in the eyes.

"Tris, you could at least move past it. Lucas wouldn't mind. You haven't dated anyone since High School," she says. Christina squeals, scaring us all. When I look away from Marlene, she is already out of her chair and jumping around my her living room.

"We should go out tonight! We could at least hook you up with someone, Tris! It will be so much fun!" she says. Shauna is up and next to me in a matter of seconds. I can see the excitement in her eyes, too.

"Yeah, Tris! It wouldn't hurt for you to come out with us tonight. I'm sure Zeke and Uriah or Four would watch Lucas," Shauna bargains. I bite my bottom lip and shake my head. As much as I think it would be fun, I can't stand the thought of ditching Lucas for me to go out and do whatever they want us to do.

"I don't know. Four is already watching him today and I don't want him to feel pressured into watching him tonight, too. Plus, we have church tomorrow," I say. Christina rolls her eyes.

"You'll be up for church tomorrow. Don't use God's house as an excuse!" Christina says. I sigh, knowing no matter what I will be defeated.

"Fine, but I am not dressing like a stripper or drinking," I say. Christina squeals again, which I believe might have made my eardrum explode. She pulls me up and wraps me in a hug.

"Come on, Tris!" Christina squeals as she pulls me through the parking lot to some restaraunt. I stumble along in the sandals she dug out of my closet. I have on a turquise tank top with a bow on the front and white jeans. White, pearl studs are on my ears that I bruied beneath my blonde curls.

"Slow down! We won't get there that much faster!" I protest. She stops when we get to the bottom of the short steps (three to be exact) to wait on the other members of our party. Shauna, Marlene, and Lynn catch up a few seconds later.

"Shall we?" Marlene asks. I give her a half smile before hesitantly replying.

"We shall."
