《Keep you safe [Eruri]》20: Preparing

Levi paced his room, waiting until the sun had set to go to Erwin's office and tell him how he felt. The cause for his nerves wasn't out of fear of the response he'd get; he knew Erwin felt the same way, thanks to the letter. It was the fact he'd never confessed to anyone before.

Scenarios played out in his mind. Ones with good outcomes, where he and Erwin confessed face to face, and others where he completely screwed it up, and he never looked at Erwin the same again. Another where he chickened out before he got there, and Erwin had decided not to ever tell him the truth, so they lived out the rest of their days loving each other, but never saying anything. Negativity shrouded his mind, blocking out all positive outcomes.

"Shit!" Levi muttered, stopping his pacing and grabbing the chair at his desk. He needed to stop shaking. He needed to clear his mind.

He looked over to the window to his right. He'd climbed out of it to the roof many times before, and he thought, perhaps, that would be a good way to calm himself.

After almost slipping once, Levi had managed to climb out of the window and onto the roof. He inhaled deeply, the smell of fresh oxygen a welcome stranger to his body. The cold sent chills down his spine, but Levi didn't care. He felt relaxed and calm for the first time in forever, and it was great.

Up here, Levi could think clearly. He closed his eyes and devised a plan for his confession, planning each individual moment, even Erwin's responses. After a while, Levi opened his eyes again, faced with the setting sun.

It reminded him of the time before his argument with Erwin. They'd climb out of the window in his office multiple times before and had sat on the roof, watching the sun set and rise. They would sometimes talk of what they would do once they'd eradicated titans from this world. Levi told Erwin he wanted to open a tea shop. Erwin told Levi he wanted to live far away from others, in a log cabin where he could live out his years peacefully. As he thought back to these times, Levi wondered how they could make both their dreams come true together.

He climbed down from the roof and entered the room awkwardly through the window. He found a note on his desk from Hange, and a boiling cup of tea, making Levi think they'd been in here quite recently, realised he was on the roof and left him be. He couldn't thank them enough for that.

Good luck! Don't screw this up!

- Hange

Levi read the note distastefully. Despite his thanks to them for helping him and leaving him alone on the roof, Levi hated the comment on the note about him screwing up. It just made him more

After about an hour more of waiting, He eventually decided it was time. The sun had finished setting, and the dark night sky was decorated by thousands of little balls of light. The full moon glowed, and as Levi adjusted his cravat and walked out of his room towards Erwin's office, he felt his confidence rise.

Just as he'd reached the office and was about to open the door, he noticed it was already slightly ajar. Opening it slightly more without saying a thing, Levi found something waiting for him.
