《Keep you safe [Eruri]》14: Comfort and rage

Unaware that Erwin had just arrived at the gate of Trost with the other scouts a little behind him, Levi sat up in bed.
Screw resting. I've done enough of that recently. I need to be in shape so that I can get back out there as soon as possible. He winced in pain, his ribs screaming at him. Once he had his legs over the side of the bed, he took a breath, sweat already forming on his face. Levi breathed in harshly, and stood up on one leg slowly, shaking.
Levi slowly began to put his left foot on the floor, and put pressure on it. The pain was almost unbearable, but he couldn't give up. He needed to be out there with his comrades and help, so sitting here in bed like a weakling was doing him no good.
He managed to limp to the doorframe before stopping. His face was red, hair was soaked with sweat and he'd only just realised how badly he smelt. If Levi could make it to the shower room and take one, maybe that would do for today...
No more than a split second after he'd thought this, Levi was faced with an obstacle that would be hard to get rid of. Erwin stood at the end of the corridor Levi was about to walk down, a mixed look of anger, shock and pity in his eyes as he saw him.
"Levi? What are you doing out of bed?!" Erwin asked, running up towards him. Levi scowled, determined to get past Erwin.
"I need a shower. I stink." Levi tried to say calmly, though he couldn't help a frustrated tone slipping into his voice. Erwin frowned.
"Can't that wait until someone else gets here? Why were you planning on putting yourself through more pain?" He questioned, knowing that Levi was lying.

"Because that's what has to be done. I can't lie in bed anymore with all that filth on me and the room smelling like it does. Now if you'll excuse me."
Levi dragged his ankle behind him and hopped passed Erwin, who pointlessly tried to reason with him.
"Levi..."
"How come you're back by the way? I thought the expedition was due to last 2 days." Levi pressed, holding onto the wall and he 'walked'.
"Levi.."
That reminds me," Levi continued, completely ignoring Erwin calling him. "Where's everyone else? They must be back if you're here."
"Levi, listen to me. Please!" Erwin begged. He knew his request wouldn't be satisfied, though.
"You kept your promise I see." Levi groaned in pain as he accidentally stood on his foot, his ankle throbbing.
"Don't be difficult! Please! Stop and listen to me!" Erwin's voice became sad and desperate. Of course, Levi didn't stop, and he continued his journey.
"Can you get me Webber when I finish? I need to finish a conversation we started yesterday. It was about you actually." Levi chuckled at the memory, before remembering that the conversation wasn't a joke, according to Webber.
"WEBBER IS DEAD!!" Erwin shouted at the top of his lungs. Both men stood either end of the corridor, one frozen in shock and disbelief, another with tears in his eyes for the first time since his childhood.
Erwin's knees buckled, and he fell to the floor, those salty tears that had gathered in his eyes rolling down his face.
"Webber's dead...and it's my fault. I did nothing to help him. I stood still and watched as he died like the coward I am!" He looked up desperately at Levi.
Levi couldn't help but fall down too, his broken bones crying out for him to stop moving. He wasn't shocked by Webber's death, despite it still upsetting him. Despite it dawning on him that he'd lost another Isabel. He was only a new recruit, after all. The real reason he was on the floor right now was because of Erwin. Levi never imagined that Erwin would crumble like this, much less over some new recruit. Many of Erwin's friends had died in the field before at the hands of the titans, but he'd always been stone faced and unbothered by it. So why...

"I'm sorry, Levi. I know he meant a lot to you. I know he was different to you than the others, because you let him in. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for taking someone from you yet again."
