《just pretend》.30

I sit between the twins on, the so far, dead silent flight. The two have been arguing a lot more lately and Keanu is sure as hell not happy he's here.
I'm even more conflicted because she says I'll spend all my time with him, and that's not wrong but I can't leave her and ruin her trip. But then Leo will feel down because I promised I would end things with Keanu.
Which I will. After this trip. I have it sorta... not really planned. Regardless, I will do it. It's just, during this trip, everything would just be a mess if I did it here.
Leo stares out the window and Keanu begins to hum quietly to my left.
After a while, Leo starts to draw and Keanu sleeps on my shoulder. I watch him draw.
The two of us decided not to do anything till I was done with Keanu. I hate that. Part of me wants to wake her up, tell her and then fall asleep on Leo's shoulder.
The plane ride is only three hours but when we get off it's already midday.
We head to baggage claim before heading to our resort.
We have a rented condo right next to there's.
"Okay, you guys go sort out your stuff and we're going to find a place to eat," Mrs. Medero says.
Keanu and Leo head to there place and I head upstairs and into a room. It's so lifeless with no knickknacks or personal items. I shrug and fill the drawers with whatever I brought before heading back downstairs.
Soon, the twins, we'll actually, Keanu, burst through the door. "I am not sharing with him."
The parents look at each other.
"There's two beds in that room. You'll be fine. All you have to do is sleep in the same room,"
Mrs. Medero says.
"What about changing and like calling my
friends and stuff?"
"Do that somewhere else, I don't know," Mrs. Medero shrugs.
Keanu's voice starts to get very whiny and ugh pitched before her voice starts to break.
"This vacation sucks already," she says asher eyes get red. "I can't even change in my own private space."
"Oh please," Leo snorts at his crying sister. "If you were sharing with Andrew you would be fine."
She stops crying. "I can share with Andrew!"
"No," Mr. Medero says. "You wanted to be alone and I'm not dealing with you being a whiny baby like every trip. Andrew are you fine with Leo in your room?"
"T-that's fine."
"Ok then that's that."
Keanu glares at her brother. "He gets everything." Before she storms off.
"She got what she wanted, I don't understand," Mr. Medero says.
Leo shrugs before walking past me and upstairs.
I follow him silently.
"Nothing," I frown to him once we're in my room.
"Nothing. She may be a brat but I won't do that to her."

I flop down on the queen size bed and sigh dramatically.
After putting down his bag and taking out his airpods he sits next to me silently. For a moment we just sit there.
"So are you actually going to break up with her or you just saying that?"
"I will."
"Okay. And then what?"
I stay quiet.
"I'm not sure."
"What even is happening now?"
"Also, not sure."
"Well, you think we should figure that out?"
I stay quiet again. He crosses his legs and turns to face me.
"Hey, Andrew, I know it's an uncomfortable topic," he says softly. "But hey c'mon, I like you."
If anyone ever hurts this kid I swear to god.
I smile before quietly saying, "me too."
He leans his head on my shoulder.
"I thought you said--"
"This is completely platonic," he says.
"Okay," I chuckle.
We sit and chat till parents decide where we're going for dinner. We walk because it's down the road and Keanu holds my hand and chats into my ear the whole way.
"I'm sure I could bribe Leo to sneak out and let me sleep in your room."
I'm sure you couldn't but okay.
"Lets not cause any trouble," I say looking behind me to where Leo is walking alone, earbuds in and staring at the sky.
"Ugh, I'm so angry he came. The one time he wants to be apart of the family and he gets in the way of everything for us."
"It is what it is Keanu, leave it be."
"And now you two are friends, I hate that."
"You all wanted us to be friends."
"Yeah so he could be a good kid, he's still the same."
Leo skips up to us and takes out his earbuds. "Ooh are we talking about me?"
Keanu rolls her eyes.
"Yeah sometimes I find Leo really fucking annoying," Leo says. "He's such a rebellious misfit."
"Leo... stop," she says.
"And his friends," he gasps dramatically, "what whores. I bet he's slept with them all."
"Leo would you shut up?"
"Okay wow I'm not even aloud to talk shit about myself to you guys?"
"I'm not talking shit."
"Well... you're complaining about my life choices... so close enough."
"Reasonably, you know how embarrassing it is for my friends to know who you are?"
He just stays quiet for a moment and is about to say something but I beat him to it. "Keanu, for the love of god shut the fuck up and leave him alone."
She stares at me and Leo slows his pace so he can walk behind us again. This time he walks far behind us.
"Excuse me?"
"I'm sorry for being rude but you made a shitty comment."
"Jesus, who's side are you on?"
"What do you mean who's side? What did he do?"

Her jaw drops before she ignores me and walks inside. I stand for a moment and Leo catches up.
"Welcome to the, you've been shunned by my sister just for being alive, club," he mumbles, walking past me.
I don't think I remember the simple, dramaless life I lived before I started dating.
I walk inside and follow the others to our table. I sit next to Keanu and opposite side of the table to Leo. My mom sits to my right.
"I get it, I was a little harsh. Can we just move past that? I don't need him to ruin more things about this vacation," she whispers.
Part of me wants to point out she just did it again but I really don't feel like having Keanu pissed at me all week.
By the end of dinner, I regret nodding my head. She clung onto me and ate off my plate the entire night and I could see Leo sitting by himself.
The majority of the week goes like this, me deciding just to keep Keanu from whining, yet leaving Leo. She even sits in our room till she's told she has to go home. Most of the time Leo rolls his eyes, leaves and doesn't come back till around 1am.
Thursday night I sit up waiting till it's two am and he still isn't back. I decide to get out of bed and look. It takes me while but I find him sitting on the porch, leaning on a post, asleep. There's a cigarette loose between his fingers.
"Leo," I whisper sitting down next to him. "Leo."
He groggily opens his eyes. "What?" He groans.
"You're sleeping on cement."
He shrugs.
I take the cigarette and look at him. "Fuck you, I don't need your judgement," he says grabbing it and throwing it.
"You're pissed."
"Well no shit. I miss home and this trip was a dumb fucking idea because I signed up for front row seats for a romcom I didn't pay for."
I stay quiet. He gets homesick too.
He sighs. "This shit is too complicated," he says.
"But, you like complicated," I whisper.
"But I don't like hurting."
I frown. "Leo I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't mean for this I just," I put my hands on my face. "Fuck, you're right this whole situation is a mess."
"Yeah," he says quietly, leaning on me. "So now what?"
"We sit here."
And we do. We both sit there for maybe forty minutes saying nothing till we're both falling asleep. Part of me wonders if we should go upstairs but I'm too comfortable, yet painfully uncomfortable on concrete. I don't want to leave his side.
Friday morning I wake up to sun in my eyes and a high pitch voice in my ears.
"Okay, what the actual heck are you two doing?" Keanu asks.
I sit up, wondering at what point did I lay down. Part of me is confused before I wake up a little more.
She stares suspiciously. "Were you two smoking?"
Fell asleep in heaven, woke up in hell.
God dammit, Leo is right. There's no point dragging this on for the sake of it being awkward. Shit's already a mess and I'm being a dick.
"Kea, let's talk," I groan rubbing my eyes.
Leo doesn't bother sitting up but I heard him sigh.
"Why are you smoking?" She says, taking the Kea, let's talk, as a yes. "It's an awful habit. I'm getting real tired of you and Leo hanging out."
"Let's go," I say to Keanu. She follows, confused. I don't even know where I walk to but I just keep walking till I find somewhere shady. I sit on a picnic bench under a huge tree.
She sits down.
"Okay so we gotta break up."
She stares blankly. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Yeah you don't deserve a guy like me Kea."
"What?" Her voice breaks. "Why? When? What? Why here?"
"Because I'm tired of lying and Leo is too."
"What the fuck does Leo know? Holy fuck do you actually like Mia? I knew it. I'm going to fucking kill her."
"No, I do not like her. And even if that was the case, I would be in the wrong, not her."
"But, then I won't see you everywhere. Andrew, think, our families do everything together."
"I'll still see you around the house."
"Right," she snorts. "You're friends with Leo."
I shake my head slowly.
"Not friends?"
I shake my head.
"Best friends?"
I shake my head and her eyes widen a bit.
"Enemies..."
I look at her, knowing she already knows the answer, and shake my head.
"Then what?" She says quietly.
"You really want me to say?"
"No, but say it."
"I like him, I really like him."
"And him?"
"The same."
She smiles weakly. "You're the mystery person."
She's so quiet.
"Kea, I'm sorry."
She sighs. "Well, what can you do?" She wipes her face with her arm. "As much as he pisses me off... I want him to be happy."
It's silent and I listen to the wind through the leaves as she collects herself.
"H-how?"
I shrug.
"You thought he was the most annoying piece of shit ever and he thought the same."
"That's just cause he makes snarky comments. That kid couldn't hurt a fly."
"I know." She frowns looking down. "He's the sweetest kid alive."
She starts to cry again so I move to sit next to her. "I miss him."
"You and your mother need to stop mourning him, he's literally right over there. Same kid you knew when you were younger."
I stand up and she does to. I put my arm around her and we walk silently back to the condos. Leo is still sat on the porch and he recognizes her swollen eyes and immediately moves towards her. "Whats wrong?"
"I want a hug," she says in between sniffles and he moves towards her to give her a hug.
