"Julian! Bud that's not how you do it," Aleks yells from the field before tossing the football and jogging over to Julian attempting to grill.

I'm sat with my legs in the pool while Keanu swims with Talia.

There's a bunch of guys I used to be real close with back when I was on the team. Mathew, Sean, Calum, and some others.

"You seem bored," Keanu says swimming up to me. I shrug.

They all seem so lame and boring. Everyone just sits around and chats about sports or gossip.

"You love these things, what's up?"

"Nothing. Just tired."

"Go get your swim trunks on and get swimming."

Yeah, and have everyone see the ridiculous tattoo on my lower stomach? No thanks.

"Uh... no I'm tired."

If I was with Leo and all them I would immediately have to throw my phone, knowing one of them would push me in. However, this group would never.

I stand up and walk up to where Aleks is lecturing Julian on how to grill hot dogs.

"Not inviting Liv?"

He looks at me. "No. Not around these people."

I sigh before making my way back to the pool.

I stare at my phone trying to think the last time I spoke to Leo. Wasn't that long ago, I'm pretty sure it was yesterday.

I click his name and go to text him before Keanu snatches my phone and tosses it to the grass way over. "Get off your phone and get in the pool," she says.

"I was texting my mom," I groan.

"Oh c'mon, swim will ya? You've been a lame lump ever since you met my brother."

"I think I'm going to leave," I say standing up and walking over to my phone.

I text Mia instead.

"Where you going?" Keanu continues to nag.

"To see some people."

"My brother?"

"No."

I walk out of the backyard to my car before deciding on calling Mia asking to hang. She tells me to meet at the camp ground.

Twenty minutes later I drive through the overgrown pathway to where the pond that we all swim in is.

"How did you get here?" I ask once I walk up to the trailer.

"I had Liv drop me off last night," Mia says sitting at the bench.

"Why did you stay overnight?"

"Can't go home right now. My mom and step dad kicked me out."

I sit down across from her. "Woah, what? Why didn't you say anything?"

"It doesn't matter. This place is safe."

"Yeah but it has no running water or anything. Stay at mine for a bit."

"Your parents wouldn't like that."

"I know they wouldn't but I don't care. We have a spare room. Please Mia."

"Your girlfriend also wouldn't like that."

"She needs to get over herself," I say. "Pack whatever you need and throw it in my car, lets go back to mine."

"Okay," she smiles.

"Do the others know?"

"No. Just Liv and she offered to help but her dad is a mess and I'd rather not get involved and make things worse."

"What have you been doing all day?" I ask as she begins to pack a bag.

"To he honest, reading. I've been trying to save my phone battery because I have no way of contacting anyone without it and I have no car. Did a little bit of exploring this old campground. Turns out there's an empty pool and real run down park way far into the forest."

"We should all check that out some time," I say.

"Yeah. Before it gets cold."

That's right, summer has ended.

Her and I chat the whole walk back to the car. "Worst come to worst I could stay at the garage," she shrugs. "It just doesn't have a washroom or anything."

We drive back to mine and I get her all set up in the spare room. For a bit we decide to go out back and swim. It starts to get dark so all the backyard lights turn on and the two of us have fun.

"Think I could jump off the roof?"

"Oh hell no," I laugh at Mia. The roof isn't even close to the pool. That's why I love these people, they're absolutely crazy.

I push her in and she drags me in too. When we both emerge, the air is filled with laughter and screams from us acting like children. For a second I think I see a figure in the distance and Mia catches onto my stillness.

"Who's that?"

"Keanu," I say recognizing her curly hair. In no time Keanu reaches us by the light and stares down at me in the pool with a glare.

"You left the BBQ to—" She runs her fingers through her hair, frustrated.

"I— I'll leave you two," Mia says to me. "I'll be inside changing."

She climbs out of the pool, grabs her towel and heads inside leaving me alone with a girl who might just explode.

"Keanu, she has no place to stay."

"And so why does she have to stay with you? What the hell! I know there is something going on between you two."

"That's stupid Kea."

"You don't laugh like that around me." She crosses her arms.

"Mia and I are not a thing and I'm not interested her in any way, Keanu please."

"This is stupid. I can't believe you do this shit time after time again and I let you. She's just trying to get with you cause you're rich."

"It's not like that. She's not interested in me or money, Keanu. I'm giving her a safe place to stay. Quit being to selfish, not everyone was born as lucky as we are."

She frowns at me. "Oh so now I'm the bad guy. Why is she the victim in every situation? I'm done. I just need to go home."

She turns around and walks out. Leaving me in the lit up pool. I climb out thanking god she didn't see the tattoo. I grab my towel and head inside to wear Mia is sat in pjs and soaking wet hair on the couch.

"Where are your parents?"

"A BBQ."

First it was the teens but then after work (some parents work weekends) they all go to the barbecue at a certain time.

"You and Keanu good?"

I sigh. "Who knows."

She nods her head silently. "I can go back. I really don't want to cause anything."

"No. If Keanu doesn't trust me then that is that. You're not leaving because of some stupid reason."

"Okay."

"I'm gonna get dressed. Mind if we sit outside? You don't have too. I just like the warm air before it gets cold."

"That's fine."

"By the way, we have towels upstairs if you want a head towel or whatever you girls do."

She laughs. "It's okay."

I go upstairs and throw on warm clothes before heading downstairs. I grab cut up watermelon melon from the fridge and head outside, Mia follows.

There's a patio swing way out on the grass that my parents always sit on at night. When I was a kid I used to sneak out and try and listen to their conversations but it was all work stuff I didn't understand.

"Sometimes I can't believe we graduate this year," Mia says as we sit down. I hand her the watermelon bowl.

"Yeah. And turn eighteen."

"Then go off to college or whatever. Think you'll stay with Keanu?"

I shrug. I used to think so but I'm a little confused right now.

"Well is there anyone getting in the way of that?" She suggests that I like someone else.

"No? Sorry Mia if you're talking about us I—"

"No you idiot. Leo."

"What?" What does she know about Leo. Did he say something?

"I'm not stupid and neither are you so might as well drop the act."

I stay silent for a moment debating lying but I don't bother because she's pretty confident so she must know.

"I- uh. What gave it away?"

"Hm. A lot of things. I really started to figure it out at the drive in but that was always just a thought then I returned to the garage the other night and you two were asleep on couch all cuddled up."

"Oh..."

"Yeah."

"See this is problematic because they're siblings and I swear I sound like I'm in a soap opera."

"I think you have a decision to make. I know Leo, he won't do this much longer. Besides, as much as he and Keanu fight, he probably hates that he's doing this to her."

And there's the difference between them. Keanu would do something in spite and Leo would never.

But things with Keanu have always been easy. We both have our futures figured out and live safely in our quiet neighborhoods. Leo is bat shit crazy and does whatever he wants to. He likes not knowing.
