《The Girl in Red》5

"Shit," I thought to myself as I saw my father's face change from confusion to anger to extreme anger.

"Aloia," he said gritting through his teeth. I swear I could see a bit of spit fly out of his mouth and onto my sister's face which is filled with confusion.

"You will NOT join the militia! You know your mother always said that you were just going through a phase. Oh, boy was she wrong. She is probably rolling in her grave right now you know! How dare you try to sully our family name? Have you even thought of your sister? No boy will want to marry her after your decision."

"Father," I said calmly. "Respectfully, please shut the actual fuck up."

I would pay good money just to be able to see my father's reaction to my last phrase. His eyes bulging out of his head, mouth wide open.

"What did you just say?" He yelled so loud that I'm sure the Wellingtons next door could hear. "Only I control my life father. Not you, not the stupid prince, no one else but me." I told him with confidence in my voice.

My father's face suddenly went still, a small smile crept up onto his face.

"You are right Aolia. I don't control your life. But do you know who's life I do control?" he said with amusement. "Your sister. You know the Pinkerton's son proposed to Ali a few weeks ago. Of course, I declined due to the gossip surrounding their family. However, if you do join the militia, I will make sure that Ali marries their older son Richard."

The Pinkertons were known around town everywhere. The ladies in that family always had black eyes and swollen faces due to their husband and boy beating them bloody. Father knows I would never let Ali get married to such a man, no matter how annoying she may be.

"I always thought mother was too good for you. Now I know with her gone, you have returned to your true state. A cruel old man that thrives from the sadness from others." I spit in his face.I no longer cared what he had to say to me. I got up from the table and ran back to my room, locked the door, and changed into my training outfit.

If I was to be mad, I would rather put it to good use. I scaled the wall outside my window and ran.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"What, no arrows today?" said a voice behind me.

I did not need to turn around because I already knew it was the captain of the guard.

"I'm in no mood to entertain you, go play with your soldiers," I told him still not facing him.

"You know, you should always face your opponent" he whispered into my ear. Tingles went down my spine as I blushed. No man has ever been this close to me before, and instinct kicked in.

I quickly turned and grabbed his left arm, turn it around, and pushed him to the ground.

"Didn't your mother ever teach you any manners? How unlawful that you get so close to a young girl. Why you sir are a child predator!" I exclaimed.

"You know I never got your name," he said with his mouth being muffled from being so close to the ground. "Oh and don't lie about your name, I can tell when someone is lying."

What's with people's new desires about names. First at Mr. Davidson 'shop' and now him?

"And why tell you my name?" I exclaimed.

In a flash, he twisted and pulled me under him. Our faces were now centimeters apart.

"Because if you don't tell me your name, I will kiss you." He said with a cunning smile.

"Don't you dare!" I told him squirming, trying to get out of his grip. But it was no use.

"One," He said putting his face a little closer to mine. I quickly twisted my face to the side, but his finger pushed my face back to him. "Two," he said moving closer, I could smell his scent, evergreen, and mint.

"Th-""No! Stop, it's Aloia!" I exclaimed shutting my eyes quickly.

"Mhm, you took too long. Maybe I should kiss you and teach you a lesson." He said with a smile.
