《Linger》Chapter 13

Ever since the "accident" two months back Dane has not brought any victims or bodies in the house. He seemed calm and collective, not quite like his crazy self. It was beginning to scare me, that I was literally counting the days because I knew it was not going to last. Dane was coming home late around 8 or 9 at night for the past week. And like Dane had promised before, to not "hurt" me like in the beginning. He has not tried to be intimate with me, well at least not in the traditional way. He occasionally fingered here or there and kissed non stop but it seemed as if he was holding off. As if he was waiting for me to initiate it. But of course that would never happen. Though I can't deny I sometimes waited and even hoped he turn around and touch me. He hardly even spoke to me at times and I was going insane. I occasionally cried to sleep and dreamed about home.

It was 9:30 at night and Dane was late again. The quiet noise of the TV in the background kept me occupied but it couldn't stop me from thinking the worst. What was he doing?

The headlights to his car shine through the curtain and his engine cuts off. Anxiously I snuggle my knees onto my chest and wait.

The door is barged open. "Susan!"

My heart jumps.

"I tried, I tried" He seemed drunk.

His shirt was covered in blood and he had scratched all over his arms.

"What did you do?"

He sits beside me and rests his head on my lap. "Can I fuck you?" he mumbles

"What did you do Dane?" He was dozing off.

"Nothing"

"Dane!"

"Look I just been going down the city under those bridges where the homeless sleep and been killing some them there. Ok that's it."

"What?"

"It was going good actually, I just lured them with the promise of some money if they helped me and boom! I hit them over the head and took them apart." He laughs. "but it was too easy. I had already killed 6 of those bastards in the past but..."

"But what?"

"One almost got away and I had to kill him in the park. I ran as fast as I could."

"Dane!" I didn't know what to say or feel. What could I say to that? I push his head off my lap and get up. "Did anyone see you?"

He yawns. "No I don't think so."

Someone must have seen or perhaps there were cameras around but I didn't want him to be paranoid about it. Maybe I had a chance of leaving.

He gets up and gets a hold of my face in between his large rough hands. "Susan oh my Susan."
