《Destructive Heaven》Chapter 12: Savior

The silky feather began to fizzle in between your delicate grip. The feather turned burning hot causing you to instantly release it. You watched as it caught fire and burned out of existence. Nothing was left, not even a single speck of ask. You slowly stepped away from the spot you found the feather as you stared down with wide eyes. You slowly swallowed back the fear you felt. How could something so beautiful simply disappear so violently.
"What the hell..? Was this something Cain did?", you mumbled to yourself in confusion. If it wasn't for the knowledge of Cain's existence, you would be more obviously disturbed by this strange event, but you have become slightly numb to the supernatural.
You slowly look around the room and begin to walk to your door. You slowly walk down the short hallway into the living and kitchen area and look around curiously.
"Cain? Cain are you here?", you call out, but your voice falls upon deaf ears and no response is ever returned to you. You stand in the middle of the living room and look out the tall, sliding glass door that lead out to your tiny porch. The sun was now much higher in the sky now and the afternoon heat began to set in. You sigh softly and turn to head back to your room. When you enter the room you see Snowball sitting and staring out the window that the feather had come from contently. You raise an eyebrow and put your hand on your hip.
"Well, Snowball, what is it? Another demon?", you snickered.
You walked over to the window and shut it sternly, rubbing your brow after in annoyance.
"Can nothing be normal?"
You started to get changed, putting on some fairly nice clothes. You go to the bathroom mirror and put on some light makeup. You take a step back and admire yourself, gently combing your hair behind your ear. Your skin was glowing softly; you looked more alive.

"Not bad. Maybe I should do this more often.", you said as a small smile curled onto your face.
✞✞✞
You were walking around the main square of your city where the most shops resided. It was especially busy since it was a weekend, and the groups of people that crowded the sidewalks grazed your bruised skin as they barely managed to squeeze past you. You began to get annoyed by this; you weren't familiar with this kind of setting. It made you anxious to be honest, and it was hard for you to relax. You tried looking over the many heads for the makes of the local stores to see if any of their items peeked your interest.
You decided one of the bigger chain stores on this block may be more useful for finding large bundles of room decor, which was what inspired your little excursion.
You began to push yourself through the crowds but found that they would often times push back, much harder. You began to get pushed back, stumbling over your own feet. Your eye's widened as you fell off the sidewalk into the street, landing on your palms and knees. The rough pavement of the road stabbed into your joints, causing you to wince in pain and embarrassment.
You felt like you could cry right there and then. This was too much for you, the crowds had completely overwhelmed you. You felt like a weak, helpless person, and once again Cain's wicked face entered your thoughts.
This is why he prayed on you so maliciously. He loved the helplessness that consumed you. This pissed you off just enough for you to push yourself to stand up. You brushed off the gravel that implemented itself into your clothes and patted your cheeks gently.
"It's going to be okay, [y/n].", you whisper gently to yourself as you turn to walk back onto the sidewalk.

Suddenly a blaring noise was coming your direction. It was violently loud, crashing against your ear drums as you quickly snap your view in the direction of the loud noise. It was a taxi driving at full speed that hadn't noticed you until you stood up all the way. The driver slammed on the breaks, and the car began to skid aggressively against the asphalt, creating an even louder sound.
You stood there frozen as your knees buckled with fear. The car was quickly swaying on the road as it attempted to stop, but it was going to fast. You quickly shut your eyes before impact and accepted your fate. You surely had just barely enough time to move out of the way but for some reason you decided against it.
There was an impact made with your body, but it was a warm, soft one. You let out a quiet yelp, as you shoved your face into what appeared to be a chest. You could feel the heart behind the flesh that saved you beat softly. You grabbed onto their shirt and started to sob. This wasn't your day, and you finally caved in to your emotions.
"C-Cain..", you whined softly as tears rolled down your face, soaking into the persons shirt. They place their large hand on the back of your head, and lift your face to their's.
"Cain? Are you okay [y/n]?", said the gentle voice.
You slowly open your eyes to see two, bright green ones staring right back at you. Their fluffy, brown hair fell over their face as they looked down at you panicked. It was Alex. Your face goes a bright red and you quickly step back from his body.
"Alex!?", you shout awkwardly. You quickly began to wipe your tears away and sniffled back the snot that started dripping down your nose. You weren't a pretty crier.
He quickly grabs your hand and pulls you into an embrace, gripping your back gracfully. You could feel an overwhemling sense of safety within his arms and you never wanted him to let you go. You wanted him to protect you, and keep you hidden from everything bad in the world. You wanted him to keep you hidden fron Cain.
"You just stood there. You didn't even try to move, dummy..", Alex groans into your ear.
"I could have lost you."
You blush hard against his chest at these words and shake your head quickly, softly pushing yourself away from him. Cain's mark was still lingering in your brain, you couldn't allow yourself to be romanced so easily. But, this man had just saved your life, unfortunately. He has no idea what peace he just took from you.
"I-I'm okay, I'm just a little shell shocked..", you sniff. You dry the rest of your face off. He looks at you, his gaze softening.
"Would you like me to accompany you today, [y/n]?", he says with a kind smile. You blink in response and look down to your hands. You remembered this morning and realised this would be a dream come true.
But could you really accept his offer?

Jeremy Finds A Dragon
Jeremy, a teenage boy with a freakish talent for the clarinet, is less than thrilled when his mom announces that they’re up and moving to a tiny village on a tiny Scottish island the summer before his senior year of high school. But Dunsegall turns out to be an okay sort of place, if you like cliffs, sheep, and small-batch ice cream made by a family obsessed with Ray Charles. Everything is mostly fine until one day, in the depths of the woods, they stumble across a two hundred year-old monk and a living, breathing — or, rather, snoring — dragon who need their help. Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
