lydia smiled as she surveyed everyone around her. she had always remembered the fair as something so fun and enjoyable, and now that she was attending it alone for the first time, she had twice as much as the excitement as usual. there were heaps of teenagers gathered around in their assigned groups, families talking and laughing amongst one another, and lydia could say that she was more than content in this present moment.

as she made her way through the crowd, her eyes laid upon many of the fun carnival games that she knew she would definitely had to come back to. the more she walked around, the more attention and stares she gathered. she never noticed when people were looking at her or even speaking about her, as she was often too caught up in her own excitement of things. although when she did, she would do nothing less than a smile and a wave at whoever's attention she grabbed. of course, most of the men had malicious, if not sexual intent. but lydia didn't know this, she never noticed.

at times, men would be so captivated that they would do close to anything to gain a glance from her. and when they received what they were looking for, they would approach her.

she never knew how to handle herself in those situations, so she was always very gentle and kind. whenever they got the chance to physically touch her she whined, causing them to cut back on the touch in hopes to not gain others attention. she was small, and oh, was she timid. with a single glance at lidie, anyone and everyone was able to make out that she was never a threat. she didn't carry herself that way, and even if she did, it wouldn't come off as intimidating due to her small size.

many men had approached her throughout the night, but she didn't care. all she was focused on was going to examine her butterfly exhibit. and as she finally stood in front of it, she was overwhelmed by the joy and excitement she felt surge through her body. as lydia walked into the small enclosure, she was delighted to see that not many people had thought the exhibit was as cool as her. there were a few children that stood around, all of them trying to be as still as possible in an attempt to get one of the little creatures to land on their fingers.

lidie quietly smiled to herself, as the sight was too pure and sweet to her. she loved kids, and seeing them happy made her even happier. lydia never would've thought that she would be standing in a tent of butterflies, feeling her chest warm up with the adorable scene playing out in front of her.

as she stood with her small fingers interlocked in her own, she felt a small insect land on the side of her arm with a swift movement. with a small inaudible gasp, she quickly diverted her attention to the pretty yellow butterfly in which landed upon her so gracefully. she slowly lifted her arm up to become face to face with the little thing, and she smiled. she was at peace, and she was happy.

"named her yet?" a sudden voice appeared beside her, startling lydia.

she gasped once again, and immediately pulled her body away from the voice, causing the butterfly to fly away at her sudden movement. she frowned, watching as it flew away and landed on the grass inside the exhibit.

"you jus- i was goin- i didn't get the chance-" she sadly whined with a pout replacing her frown. lydia did not get upset easily, but she was sad. it was the first time one had ever landed on her, and she was devastated as she watched it go somewhere else.

suddenly, lidie felt a hand softly land on her jaw, gently tugging her face upwards to face the man in which caused her newly found sadness.

to say she was taken aback, was the least of it.

she examined his face, and her pout disintegrated. the boy was very pretty, with soft facial features. he caused lydia to feel something she hadn't felt before. attraction. his skin was a lighter, almost pale complexion, with his soft brown hair loosely sitting on his head alongside the gentle curls that had formed. he was extremely tall, in fact almost towering over lydia. he also stared at lydias beautiful features for a moment, before speaking again.

"you're alone?" he asked, as his deep voice replayed itself in lidies ears for a moment. she wasn't quite sure how to respond to that, as she has never been asked that before.

"yes," was all she could speak out in return.

his eyes remained fixed on the small girl in front of him, and he spoke.

"you're small"

small? lydia thought to herself. she knew she was smaller than teenagers her age, of course, but she was confused as to why someone would point it out. that's just silly. her brain remarked. why is he pointing out the obvious?

"so little," he continued, noticing the confused look on lydias face. she didn't exactly know what to say, so she just stared at him for a few seconds as she expected him to say more. but he never did, leaving lydia to speak.

"thank you, you are very large" she spoke in a silly mocking tone as she repeated what he had said to her before. the interaction left her a bit confused. when the boy said nothing back to her, she decided it was time to examine the different butterflies again as she had once done before. she softly placed her hand on top of his much larger one, moving her face from his grip that had slowly began to slightly tighten throughout the encounter.

the boy quietly and swiftly followed her as she turned around and began towards the same butterfly that he had scared off of her. for some reason, he was very infatuated with lydia. he wanted to know everything about her, where she lived, why she was alone, her age...

lydia began to pout to herself once again as the butterfly flew away from her. she crossed her arms around her chest, letting out a sigh of defeat. the boy stood still behind her, watching as her facial expressions changed from sadness to defeat. he enjoyed seeing her so vulnerable, especially over something so small. in fact, he wanted to see more of it. as lydia turned around to find a new butterfly to favorite out of the bunch, she let out an audible gasp as she ran directly into the boy from minutes earlier.

"s- sorry" she scrambled to say, being cut off by the man.

"what's your name, little?" he pressed.

"lydia," she began with her expression turning into a small smile as she realized he only wanted her name. "what's yours?"

he loved the way her voice sounded, and he would do anything to listen to it.
