《The Sharica Baby》Cravings

Erica's POV
I was curled up in the sofa watching netflix waiting for Shaheer to come home. Tonight he had a very important meeting for his new show. While he was at work, I decided to have a lazy night at home because i was pretty tired lately.
I had a bowl of Ice cream and a jar of sweet pickles. It was something that i had always hated but somehow i just loved it these days. The idea of eating that together could make anyone throw up, but it was something that hit the spot for me.
I was in my favorite pair of pajama pants and one of Shaheer's t-shirts curled up with a fleece throw on the sofa and my dog Champ laying on the couch next to you with his head on your lap next to your belly.
I was in the middle of binge watching my favorite TV show when I saw headlights coming up the driveway. I smiled knowing that Shaheer was finally home after spending all night in the heart of Mumbai working.
A few minutes later I heard the door that led to garage open and you heard Shaheer put his car keys down on kitchen island.
"Babe? I'm home!" Shaheer called from the door.
"In the living room!" I called back to him.
I smiled as I looked over and saw my husband walk into the living room.
"Hey baby!" he said before he leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on my lips.
"Are you eating pickles again?" he asked after he pulled away from the kiss.
"Pickles and chocolate ice cream!" I said smiling up at him with a huge grin on my face.
"Babe that is so nasty!" he said as he took a seat next to me on the sofa.

"It might sound gross but it tastes amazing! Me and the babies love it!" I said as I placed my hand on my bump which seemed to get a little bigger every day.
"I can't wait for you to have these babies so this weird chocolate pickle craving is over. I mean last week you were eating Oreos and pickles...together! That's disgusting!" He said.
"Shah, you know I can't help it. My body just craves certain things." I said.
"Certain things that happen to be disgusting when paired together." he said.
I smiled and leaned my head on his shoulder as he wrapped and arm around me. The two of us watched another episode before I heard a rumbling sound come from my stomach.
"Sounds like someone's hungry." he said smiling at you.
"I am. Would you go get me some more chocolate ice cream?" I asked.
"Of course, I'll be right back." He said as he got up from the couch and headed into the living room.
He came back into the room a few minutes later with a beer, a bag of Lays, and a bowl of ice cream. Vanilla ice cream.
"Shaheer I wanted chocolate ice cream." I said looking over at him.
"We don't have any. All we have is vanilla." he said.
He sat down on the couch and got comfortable as he took a drink from the beer and grabbed a few chips in his fingers.
I looked down at the bowl of vanilla ice cream and decided to give it a try. Maybe it would taste okay. I was wrong. I just wanted chocolate ice cream. It wasn't nearly as good as chocolate ice cream.
"Babe..." I said looking over at him.
"Hmm." He said as he kept his eyes locked on the TV.

"Do we have any chocolate syrup?" You asked.
"I think there's some in the cupboard over the sink." He said.
I smiled and looked down at the ice cream. Then I looked back over at him. I was not so comfortable and my feet were killing me today. I really didn't want to get up to go get the syrup.
Shaheer glanced over and smiled at me before turning back to the TV. Then he realized that I was still looking at him so he looked back over at me.
"What?" He asked.
"Will you go get the syrup for me?"I asked with the cutest pleading face I could make.
"You're serious?" he asked, hoping it was a joke.
"My feet are killing me,Shah." I said as I looked over at him giving him the puppy dog look that I knew he couldn't say no to.
"No. I'm comfortable and just got home. You can go get it." He said turning back to the TV.
"Please." I said as I put my bottom lip out in a pout.
"Fine." he said as he sighed and set his beer on the coffee table before standing up. He walked into the kitchen and came back a minute later with the bottle of chocolate syrup. He handed it to me before taking a seat on the couch next to me.
"You're lucky I love you." He mumbled under his breath.
"I love you too." I said smiling as I poured the chocolate syrup onto my ice cream. Now that's what I call food.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
