A few months later...

Nick pulled out his phone and dialed quickly. The phone rang once before someone picked it up.

"Hey, man," Monroe answered. "What's up?"

"I need help," Nick said quickly. "Get to my house as fast as you can. Bring everyone."

"Is today the day?" Monroe asked nervously.

"Yes," Nick answered seriously.

"Oh my, God!" Monroe yelled, clearly panicking.

"Hurry," Nick begged before hanging up the phone.

When the line went dead, Monroe started scrolling through his contacts, looking for the right people who could help.

*************

Monroe pulled his car up to Nick's loft, parked it, and quickly jumped out. He jogged all the way up to the elevator, climbed inside, and bounced in place anxiously as he waited for it to go up. When the elevator stopped, Monroe threw open the door, finding a nervous Nick pacing around while Trubel sat calmly at the counter.

"Dude," Monroe said, watching Nick quickly move from side to side. Nick looked up and ran over to Monroe.

"Are they coming?" he asked nervously.

"Oh, yeah," Monroe assured, sounding as anxious as Nick. "They'll be here, man."

Nick let out a long breath of relief and nodded.

"Nick, would you relax?" Trubel told him laughing. "We're just decorating your house, it's not like the world's ending or anything."

"I'm not worried about the house," Nick whined. He pulled a small black box out of his pocket and popped it open, exposing the engagement ring that was hidden inside.

"Oh, boy," Monroe sighed worriedly.

Trubel gave him a confused look before she suddenly became mad. "Oh my, God, Nick! You told Monroe you were getting engaged before you told me?!" She quickly snatched the box out of Nick's hand, examining its contents. "Nice rock," she blurted out.

Nick took the box back and stuffed it in his pocket. "Everything needs to be perfect. We're running out of time."

Nick had shut off his security system because he expected company; that was why they all heard the elevator come up before knowing anyone had arrived. When the door opened, Hank, Farris, and Wu were revealed. They walked into the house and looked back and forth between the very flustered Monroe and Nick and the eerily calm Trubel.

"We have a lot of work to do," Wu said, looking around at the loft.

Hank looked over at Nick. "Nick, you okay?"

"He's going to ask Adalind to marry him when we're done beautifying his house," Trubel said.

"What?!" Wu yelled while Hank said, "Oh, man."

"That's great," Farris said, the only one seemed happy rather than surprised or scared to death.

"You're doing this for real?" Hank asked.

"Thinking about it," Nick said, sounding like he was choking.

"Look at this guy," Wu announced. "Fights monsters every day but is afraid to ask the woman he loves to marry him."

"It didn't exactly work out last time," Nick said, remembering when Juliette refused to marry him. Farris didn't know what Nick meant and was pretty sure it would be bad if she asked for clarification. She looked over at Hank who gave her a look that said, "I'll explain later."

"Nick, you're going to be fine," Trubel said, slapping his shoulder.

"It's going to work out this time," Hank agreed.

Nick nodded.

"I called Bud," Monroe spoke up. He's bringing a big truck that he uses to deliver refrigerators."

"Probably shouldn't tell Bud about the proposal," Trubel mused.

"Yeah, man," Monroe said. "He'd definitely blow it." Hank and Wu nodded in agreement and shot Nick an understanding look.

"Right," Nick agreed. "Who else is coming?"

"I thought Rosalee should take it easy and not do anything too strenuous," Monroe said protectively. "She's watching the kids and the Shop, and Eve is coming over here."

Suddenly, the group heard the elevator again. When it came back up, Renard was standing on the other side of the door.

"Captain?" Hank asked.

"I figured you could use a little help," he said, smiling slightly.

"Yeah, we'll have you paint all of the spots we can't reach," Wu said.

"Welcome to the work in progress," Farris greeted him. Renard grinned and joined the group of people surrounding Nick.

"What's the plan?" Monroe asked.

"I bought all of the paint a few days ago, but I hid it in the garage and covered it with a tarp so it would look like everything else that's in there," Nick explained. He had cleaned the garage a few months ago, but it was already messy again which helped him hide things. Nick looked around and noticed all of the intent faces that were ready to follow his lead. "I also have plastic tarps in there that we will use to cover everything up so we don't spill too much paint. When Bud gets here, I'll come with him to the storage yard where I keep all of the furniture from the old house. I might need someone to come with me. While we're getting that, some of you will need to move the old furniture out. Others will be painting the walls. When Adalind calls me and tells me she's coming home, I'll tell her to pick the kids up at the shop."

"Rosalee will stall her," Monroe assured.

"Good," Nick approved. "Then, we have a plan."

"Let's get the tarps and the paint," Farris suggested. Everyone agreed and grabbed pieces of old furniture to move out of the house.

*************

Nick and the others were spreading tarps out across the floor when Bud and Eve arrived at about the same time.

"This is so exciting," Bud shouted, looking around at the house.

Nick told Bud the plan and left with him and Trubel to get some of his old furniture.

*************

Nick opened the storage room doors, exposing a completely packed lot. One of the closest items was a tall stainless steel fridge.

"Look at that beauty," Bud said, admiring the fridge. "This model is a nightmare to work on, but it sure is nice when it's up and running. It's tall and sleek, and it's very roomy. It's definitely better than your old refrigerator," Bud droned on. Nick laughed and remembered his first meeting with Bud; Bud had been repairing his old fridge, complaining that it was trying to kill him before woging and noticing that Nick was a Grimm.

"Yeah, that's great and everything," Trubel said, "But how do we get it in the truck?"

Bud walked over to the large truck that he had brought and pulled out some sturdy metal objects. One of them looked like a jack for a car. "These will help us get it in," Bud promised. "I do it all the time."

Bud, Nick, and Trubel worked to get the refrigerator into the giant truck. When that was finished, they all fished out random items and threw them in with the fridge after Nick approved them.

"Side table?" Bud asked.

"Grab it," Nick said.

"Paintings?" Trubel asked.

"Yep," Nick approved, loading a few chairs into Bud's truck.

""This thing?" Bud asked, holding up a wooden object that looked like it hung on a wall and held papers.

"Uh-huh," Nick approved.

"What about this? What even is this?" Trubel asked, holding up a thick leather strap with a ring on top used for hanging it on the wall. It had two large golden, metal circles and one metal bell. Each shape had a smaller bell in the center.

"Let's grab it," Nick said. "We used to hang that on the wall next to the computer in the old house.

"Oh, yeah," Trubel said, remembering the strange decoration.

"And this?" Bud questioned. He was holding a stone dog.

"Let's leave that," Nick said. "It was Juliette's."

"Bar stools?" Trubel asked.

"Yeah, we're taking those," Nick said.

"I don't remember these," Trubel thought out loud.

"They're new. Some of this stuff I bought, anticipating I would need it when this day finally came. "I even bought all of those light fixtures," Nick said, pointing to a box on the corner, "Even though I have no idea how to install them."

"I can do that," Bud volunteered while he carefully placed a lamp in Nick's Land Cruiser that he brought.

"You can?" Nick asked.

"Oh, I'll have those put in place in a jiffy," Bud promised. "And I have a few appliances - dishwashers, laundry machines, dryers, ovens, you name it. I'm not using them, and maybe you would like them," Bud mentioned.

"That's perfect, Bud. Thank you!" Nick said happily.

"What are friends for?" Bud said happily.

The team got back to work, loading everything into the two vehicles that they could. They would have to make a few trips.

*************

Just as Wu had suggested, Renard was painting all of the tall spots that no one else could reach. Hank, Wu, Farris, and Eve painted all of the shorter areas and all of the places that required detail. For the most part, the paint they applied either matched the old wall colors or was slightly brighter. The outside bathroom walls were freshly painted with the same shade of green that they had been before. All of the white and beige walls also were freshly painted, and the dirty, yellow bathroom bricks were coated with a cheerful yellow paint. None of the red brick walls were painted over; Adalind said they added character to the loft. However, steel shutters of the house the steel wall behind Nick and Adalind's bed did need to be painted a better color. Farris and Monroe debated on whether or not to paint them a shade of brown that Nick had purchased, or a shade of white that matched the walls of the house. They decided on white.

They wanted to paint the trim and walls around the windows on the ceiling, but even Renard couldn't reach that high on a ladder.

"I got it," Eve said. She woged and used her powers to move the paintbrush along the ceiling. She did a great job and painted in perfect lines; she didn't even spill a single drop of paint.

When they finished applying the first coat, they all worked on moving furniture out of the house. Luckily, it wasn't raining that day, so they could leave everything outside for the time being. Nick, Bud, and Trubel arrived with their vehicles full of furniture which everyone helped unload onto the stretch of pavement outside the loft. Bud helped load the fridge inside the house.

He eventually made it to the kitchen with it and put it in place.

He looked around. "Nick, this floor is a mess," he said.

"I just swept it yesterday," Nick said, confused.

"No, no, no," Bud said. "I-I mean, it's not exactly, uh, homey."

"He's right," Monroe said, looking at the floor. It was a depressing shade of gray stone that covered the entire loft's floor.

"Well, I don't have anything to replace it with, not to mention the time it takes to put it in," Nick explained.

"I think I know a guy," Bud said. "I'll make some calls." He pulled out his phone and said, "Hey, John," after a few rings. "I was wondering if you could help Nick and I out?" he began. He listened to the man on the other end of the phone. "Carpeting and tile," he answered. He told John the number of square feet that the house looked and waited for the response. "A few hours he said." He waited again. "Yeah, tell Arnold to bring everybody." He told John Nick's address. "Great," he said and hung up. "Don't move in anymore furniture, just get everything out," Bud said. "We're good to go, Nick," Bud said.

"Thank you so much, Bud," Nick said. "I can't tell you how much I appreciate this." He looked at all of his friends that were gathered to help him. "Thank you, all of you. I couldn't do this without you guys."

"No, you couldn't," Wu agreed, jokingly.

"Happy to help, man," Monroe said.

Nick smiled blissfully, feeling overjoyed from the support of his friends.

*************

Nick left with Bud and Trubel again to pick up the last of the items from the storage yard and some other items from the shop. They also stopped at the store to buy some hooks used to hang paintings on brick walls.

While they did this, a crew of about ten Eisbiebers showed up at Nick's house. Some measured the length and width of the floors, and some had tile and carpet samples that they held out to ask the group what they wanted for the floor type.

Some Eisbiebers left and returned with flooring supplies and tools. Others left and came back with supplies like new sinks and a new bathtub. Eisbiebers typically worked on construction and repairs, so they all knew what they were doing, and they all had their own shops full of the supplies that they needed.

When Nick and the others returned with the final load of supplies, everyone rushed outside to start bringing furniture in. The carpet was already put in and so was the tile floor in the bathroom and kitchen. The bathtub was also installed at that time; no one had ever seen a bathtub installed so neatly or quickly before, but the Eisbiebers had some serious skills and some help from Diana.

"The tile needs to dry for 24 hours," John Oblinger warned them, "So we can't put anything on it, yet."

While people grabbed dressers, and beds, and chairs, bringing them inside, Eve called Rosalee and talked to Diana on the phone.

"Do you want to come to Nick's and help us with the tile?" Eve asked her.

"I don't need to go to Nick's," Diana said with purple eyes. She stared at something that Rosalee couldn't see and suddenly said, "It's all dry."

"Thank you, Diana," Eve said. "Your mommy is going to love the new loft," Eve promised.

"It's really pretty," Diana said happily, though she was in the Spice Shop and hadn't visited the house yet.

After that, people started loading in new kitchen appliances from Bud's shop. Bud started putting in the light fixtures, a friend of his put in a new kitchen sink, and some others set up the new dishwasher and oven.

*************

Nick's phone was ringing. He answered it, talked briefly, thanked someone, and hung up. "Adalind's on her way with Rosalee," he said. "Rosalee couldn't stall her anymore, so they're both coming."

"O-okay, okay, right," Bud said anxiously, looking around at the house. All of the walls, beams, trim, and shutters were painted and dry. Bud and his friends had replaced all of the old appliances, finished the floor, and even brought in new countertops. Everything was swept and dusted and vacuumed to clean up all of the dirt, sawdust, and debris. Farris had also gone to a few thrift stores and bought decorations, new bed sheets and bedspreads, and paintings to make the house seem newer, yet lived in. Farris's decorations and all of the new furniture really made the loft look great.

Everything was perfect, just like Nick wanted.

All of the Eisbibers left before Adalind showed up. They left in a large group, carrying their saws and tool bags and other supplies. Nick thanked them all individually as they filed out of his house and into his elevator, and everyone helped the Eisbiebers carry their supplies out.

"I guess I should go," Bud said. He smiled as he looked at all the team had accomplished.

"Why don't you stay for the, uh... reveal," Trubel suggested.

"Really? You-you mean it?" he asked excitedly.

"Of course, Bud," Nick said, happily. "We couldn't' have done any of this without you."

"This is great!" Bud said happily, flapping his hands around excitedly. "It's going to be like a party!"

"I guess," Monroe agreed.

"I'll call my wife! She said she was baking all day! I'll have her bring over some pies."

"You don't have to-" Hank began.

"It's no problem," Bud said quickly. He started calling his phone and held it up to his ear while it rang. "My wife loves to-" he began, but his wife answered. "Oh, hello, honey." Bud chattered on the phone for a few minutes before hanging up. "Alright. She's on her way. She made pies and some other things that you guys might like. She makes great cookies, too. I think she's bringing some of her oatmeal cookies. I personally like the chocolate chip ones that she makes, but you know, you can't please everyone and-" Bud was talking very quickly. Everyone in the room was only able to understand about half of what he was saying. Luckily, he was interrupted by a beeping sound.

Nick turned on the security system when Rosalee called, so everyone was alerted when Rosalee and Adalind arrived.

"They're here," Nick said, sounding panicked.

"Don't worry, Nick. She's going to love it!" Bud said.

Nick shot Monroe an exasperated look. He wasn't worried about the house.

"Let's surprise them!" Wu suggested.

Everyone found a hiding spot. Renard was too tall to hide behind the furniture, so he just hid behind the bathroom wall.

"I'll get the lights," Eve said. She woged, and all the lights shut off one by one.

They heard the elevator lift up as well as come indiscernible talking between Adalind, Diana, and Rosalee. The elevator door squeaked as Adalind opened it up.

"Wow, it's dark in here," Adalind said, feeling around the wall for a light switch.

Diana's purple eyes glowed in the dark, and all of the lights turned on at once.

"Surprise!" everyone shouted at once.

Adalind jumped, and Diana started laughing.

"Oh my, goodness," Adalind said, looking around at the loft.

"I thought it was about time to turn our house into a home," Nick said, smiling.

"And all of you helped with this?" Adalind asked, looking around at the crowd happily.

"We sure did," Bud said happily and quickly.

"This is amazing," Adalind said, sounding more than astounded. She walked over to Nick, who was standing in the center of the crowd, and pulled him into a giant hug. "Thank you," she told him. "Thank you guys," she repeated louder, pulling away from Nick. "This is, this is so... I can't believe you did this," she told Nick.

"Yeah," Nick said uncomfortably. Adalind was confused by his sudden change in mood. "So, the surprise isn't over," Nick said.

"What did you do, Nick? Buy me a pet?" Adalind asked, laughing.

"Not quite," Nick said.

"Just say it, Nick," Adalind commanded, smiling.

"Adalind," Nick began, very serious. "The years we've known each other haven't always been easy. If you would have asked us years ago if we would ever have a child together, both of us wouldn't have thought it was possible. But, here we are. I'm sharing a house and a life with you, and I couldn't ask for anything more," Nick said, pulling a small box from his pocket.

"Oh my, God! What?!" Bud asked. By that time, he was the only one who didn't know Nick was going to propose to Adalind. Bud frantically looked at all of the calm faces around him. "Oh my, God!" he yelled again, totally ruining Nick's speech and his moment. "This is happening!" Bud yelled. "This is happening!"

"Bud!" Rosalee reprimanded.

"Sorry, sorry," he said quickly. Nick looked like he was about to continue his speech. "I won't talk anymore," Bud said.

Adalind had her hands over her face and was crying tears of joy. She started laugh-crying at Bud's outburst.

"Adalind, we have changed over the years, and we have grown together more and more. I am in love with you, and I hope that you can love me, too," Nick said. "I want us to continue our long and happy life together as husband and wife. Will you, please, do me the honor of marrying me?"

"Yes!" Adalind yelled. "Of course, Nick!" Nick stood up quickly and slid the ring onto Adalind's finger. Adalind hugged him and said, "I love you so much," before pulling away and kissing him enthusiastically.
