《Chasing Royalty》Chapter 8

It was late in the afternoon when we arrived back in 'our' apartment after hours of shopping.

Sure, I only brought a few of my clothes but that doesn't mean we need to buy almost half of the stalls to fill in my closet.

"You're overreacting!" Jessica exclaimed. And well, since it made her happy, I guess I'll just have to let it go.

Upon entering the building, we were greeted by a smiling Elijah, who acts as some sort of receptionist in the apartment building.

"Perfect timing!" he said in that adorkable way. "A package just came. To a Miss Vanessa Carter..." he said as he looked at the box that was pretty much wrapped by what seemed to be an endless packaging tape all over.

I beamed. That must be the ID the boys sent.

"I know all of the names who lived in this building. Since you are kind of a new face, I assumed that it's yours," he said, scratching his nape before handing the package to me.

"Thank you," I said while eyeing the box like it's the most precious treasure I have ever touched.

"Have a good day, both of you!" I heard Elijah said as we made our way to the elevator.

"You too!" I said as we waved at him.

"Gods, he's hot!" Jessica said as the elevator doors closed.

"Yeah, I think he's cute."

Honestly, I find him really attractive. With his blue eyes, perfect teeth, and slightly disheveled hair makes him look really cute, handsome even. His smiles are genuine and trust me when I say I've seen many different fake smiles to know what's real and what's not. He's not cocky like most men with those looks would be. His carefree attitude just adds up to that attractiveness. I can understand why Jessica would swoon to someone like that.

"I think he's really adorable. I mean just look at those sparkling blue eyes, and his smiles are ohhh..." I can't believe my best friend just swooned and sighed over a guy.

"I think he has a thing for me," she said in that all too familiar determined face. I had to roll my eyes.

"Oh, come on. Maybe he's like that to everyone."

"Yeah but the way he looks at me and the way he smiles... and those amazing blue eyes..." she trailed and closed her eyes.

"You know, I happen to meet someone who also has amazing blue eyes back the restaurant," I said, smirking as I saw the immediate effect of my statement. She knew very well who I'm talking about.

"Do you really have to bring him up?"

I just laughed. When we entered our apartment, I immediately unwrapped the package and retrieved ID. I looked at it and, "YES!" my eyes are green, and my skin was back to its natural color. That's a double a YES for my brothers.

When Jessica emerged from the bedroom, she was already in a different dress.

"Are you going out or something?" I asked.

"Nope," I narrowed my eyes at her not liking where this is going. "We're going out," she said, and pulled me in the bedroom where we dumped our shopping bags.

"Since you already have your new fake ID, all that is left is a dress to wear."

She rummaged through the shopping bags before pulling out a black dress that would barely reach my knees.

She wiggled her eyebrows and the next thing I knew, we were maneuvering ourselves to the direction of the bar.

Even before entering the club, I can already hear the pounding of music.

Don't get me wrong, I'm into different kinds and forms of music, I just don't appreciate music that would make eardrums burst.

Men and women are at the bar drinking, flirting, and one couple is even having a make out session. The dance floor was packed. Everyone was either enjoying or wasting the night away. People are grinding their hips to each other. A shiver ran through my spine just looking at them.

"I know! That was my reaction too when I first came here!" she leaned to yell on my ears. When we took a seat, the bartender gave us both a wink.

I have never been to a bar before. I was too busy focusing on my studies to even think about going to one.

Jessica and I went to the same school ever since we started studying until elementary. So, I know that she was also very proper in her ways. But when they moved to California, she told me that going to clubs at sixteen had been one of her first rebellious act. But since she still became a fine woman, I don't have any problem with it.

"Two Grey Goose Martini, please." She said.

"Coming right up."

I gaped at her.

"What? Your brothers told me that martini is the only alcohol mix that you like to drink," she said, and I smiled. "And you are going to love Grey Goose Martini."

Our drinks arrived, and I stared at her for a moment.

"What's with the 'please'?" I asked.

"Oh! Shut up! I still have my manners with me, you know. I just always put it in my purse when I am with Asshole Stevens."

I laughed and tried my drink.

Wow! It really was great.

As if reading my mind, "told ya" Jessica said grinning like crazy.

After draining our drinks, Jessica ordered some shots. And that ladies and gentlemen was the first time I ever tasted tequila.

"Bottom's up!" Jess and I made a toast before quickly draining our shots. I felt hot all over as I suck on the slice of lemon.

"How could you drink that horrible drink?"

"Not breathing and just simply gulping it down."

We took another shot and another before I surrendered. So, she ordered another glass of martini.

I can feel my face flushed after the last shot. I vaguely remembered that drinking alcohol dehydrates a person and I feel myself needing water for my state.

When we finished our drink, she pulled me towards the dance floor, and started swaying her hips. I laughed and did the same. I closed my eyes and swayed with the music until I lost myself in the crown of people. When I opened my eyes, Jessica was nowhere to be found. A hand started grabbing my hips, and I pulled away immediately.

I may want to be free, but I don't want anyone touching me without my consent.

My head didn't appreciate being pulled like that.

I think I'm already intoxicated.

I tried looking for Jessica but instead, I found a set of eyes mirroring my own.

I stood there, staring at the guy. I couldn't move even when he walked towards me. The pulsing lights around gave him a mysterious vibe. I just kept on staring until he was in front of me.

His green eyes showed something I couldn't understand. His perfectly sculpted jaw clenched tightly as his eyes surveyed my body. His eyes stared into mine, then to my lips. When he licked his lips, I felt conscious about myself.

His penetrating gaze sent a message that brought chills all over me.

His eyes, his green eyes seemed to tell me something.

Where have you been?

What are you doing to me?

They seemed to say.

It's crazy thinking that I could understand someone by just staring into their eyes. Or maybe he really just said that without having to move his lips. I'm blaming alcohol for even thinking like that.

Before I could do anything else, someone caught my wrist and pulled me away, getting swallowed by the crowd.

"Come on, we have to run!" I heard Jessica's voice, and immediately darted through the people around. As we went outside, I stopped her and asked what was going on.

"I'll explain later, right now we have to run." She took my hand, and together we ran like hell.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm, feeling a massive headache. I don't usually throw alarm clocks but damn, me head hurts so bad and it won't shut up.

Hangover is a bitch

I should be not dreading this day, but after what happened last night, I felt uncomfortable.

After running for God knows how long, we finally stopped to catch our breaths. We were panting really hard and fell on the pavement.

"What...the...hell...happened?" I asked between pants as I lied on the street.

We were so busy catching our breaths, so we just stayed there for a couple of minutes. When we were finally breathing normally, I looked at my watch and sighed. It was already midnight. We were running for about 30 minutes.

Jessica suddenly laughed. "I never thought I would run like that again." When she said that, I joined in on her laugh as I remembered our crazy antics when we were kids. It was either doorbell ditching their neighborhood, or simply playing tag.

"Your car was just at the parking, and we went the other way." I said, sitting up.

"The car is an easy target. If we went there, the assholes can easily get to us as I fondled with my car keys," she explained. "I decided that we can easily outrun them with our running away skills."

I laughed but then realized something. "The 'assholes'?" I asked.

She stopped laughing and looked at me straight in the eyes. "The guy you were dancing with is none other than Nathaniel Westwood." My eyes widened in shock after hearing her words.

Shit. And shit just got real.

"And on top of that, Asshole Stevens saw me, and asked me about my whereabouts these past days," she sighed.

Now. We are SO DEAD.

I forced myself out of the bed and immediately fell back as I felt pain shoot up my feet.

That's what you get from running in those heels. Now, pull yourself together.

I got up again, ignoring the soreness of my whole body as well as the pain on my heels. I showered, brushed my teeth and put on my professional suit. I went down, seeing Jessica has already made our breakfast.

"How's your feet?" she asked as I poured myself a cup of coffee.

"How about yours?" I asked back

"I don't think I can force myself to walk in my heels either."

We finished our breakfast and headed outside.

And when we reached the building neither one of us even wanted to get out of the car.
