I wake up and instantly regret it. I was alseep in my bed for once, not passed out in the living room because I was editing or in Will's room listening to music like I had done before but I was actually in a cozy burrito of blankets. I smile a little to myself and shut my eyes, trying to fall asleep but my stomach growls reminding me that I haven't eaten in over eighteen hours. That's obviously not good. I was basically running off of tea and water due to my hatred of coffee.
I hear the front door open and then shut silently before glaring at my door, daring Will to come wake me up. He must have been the one to move me to my bed last night because I can't remember doing it on my own. All I know is that I was working on a video of my own and listening to music on my Spotify and somehow ended up in my bed.
I get out of bed and immediately miss the warmth it had provided as I quickly make my way to my wardrobe, grabbing a dark coloured jumper. I stretch my arms slightly and pull my hair from the messy bun it had been in so I could concentrate better.
I move across the house in silence, wondering where my brother is and wonder if I had heard the door close. I hear someone clear there throat behind me and I spin jumping a little with a shout.
"Will." I shout stumbling back a little as the stranger leans against the wall, blocking my path back to where our rooms were. "Will, there's a stranger in our house. Help, stranger danger." I shout, hoping my brother was home and alive so he could help me deal with this.

The stranger was tall, a blonde with brilliant bright green eyes. His height compared to mine was a little less then Will's which made sense due to the fact that Will was somehow a giant of sorts.
"Please leave," I give the man an innocent smile, hoping he would leave us be but he starts laughing at my request. "Hey. It's not funny." I huff, crossing my arms and he is practically wheezing.
"River," He laughs and I'm taken back that he knows my name. "You really think that if a bad person were to walk into your house he would leave if you asked nicely?" He laughs so hard that he can't even properly make the sentence without deep breaths.
"Dream?" I ask, lightly just enough so the man could hear me and his eyes light up a little.
"Clay," He grins, taking a step towards me.
"Why are you here?" I ask, stumbling back some more. He glances over me and I stick my tongue out at him. Not many of Will's friends had seen my face and I knew very well that Dream had his face no where at all.
"I was invited for pizza," Dream, Clay, says and sits down at the kitchen island.
"It's only," I look at my phone which tells me it's not even that time yet. I thought they were going for dinner but I reckon that lunch would be more optimal. "Where is Will?" I ask, running my hand through my thick hair.
"He is cleaning out some old equipment out of an extra room," Clay explains and I give him a slightly confused look on why that needed to be done. ""He is letting me stay here for a bit." He explains, reading my expression fully.

"That's the guest room," I sigh and wonder where Will is putting all of the extra equipment that we had filtered through over the last two of so weeks. "Jerk," I mumble, still tired and make my way to the freezer.
"Why are you so angry?" He asks and I smile to myself as I bound towards the drawing in which we keep our silverware.
"I'm not," I say grabbing a tub from the freezer.
"Why are you eating ice cream when you just woke up?" Clay asks again and I shrug, sitting down at the kitchen island directly across from him.
"Because I wanna." I explain to him which makes him laugh. I glance at the screen of his phone and see the back ground is one of those fan art pictures of the two of us. He must see me looking because he looks up at me, rolling his eyes jokingly when I stick my tongue out at him.
"Hey Clay, hey River with chocolate ice cream." Will greets the two of us as he walks into the room and I shoot him a happy smile while Clay just waved slightly, looking tired from jet lag. I've never traveled very far but I have heard that jet lag is pretty annoying side effect that comes with traveling.
"Morning," I grin happily, shoving more chocolate into my mouth. Will laughs and shakes his head as he moves to the living room.
"Hey," Clay greets my brother who has disappeared out of sight. I stick my tongue out at him again which he returns with an amused smile.
"We ready for pizza?" Will asks, coming back into the room. I tilt my head to the side wondering why he is asking if Clay just got here. In response Will throws one of my jackets meant for protecting me from the cold.
"Wait," I look between the two boys, who continue getting ready to venture into the cold. "I'm coming?" I ask, extremely confused and my brother simply nods while Clay chuckles at my confusion.
"Yes," Will laughs and throws me some dark gloves which I pull onto my hands which is followed by a beanie. Clay looks between the two of us in pure shock, probably because me and Will look very alike at the moment. More alike then usual due to the fact we are dressed pretty much the same way. "Let's go."

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
