Eran rested in her room. She was still mulling about her failure to protect Bam.
Haiz. I was too confident.
The cloud of gloom never left Eran for a few days.
"Jinsungg teacherrr..." Eran wailed when Jinsung came to check on his favourite disciple. "I'm sorry...!!" Eran looked so guilty, Jinsung could only give the poor girl headpats.
"I promise I'll train harder from now on!" Eran swore.
"I think you try very hard already though..." He said, nervously.
...
Eran could also learn any shinsu attack after seeing it once like Bam. However, unlike bam who needed someone to attack him, Eran only needed to see the flow of shinsu, and mimic it. In the past, she sat through all of Bam's lessons so she knew nearly everything he did.
She sat down on the roof of their resting quarters cross-legged.
"A penny for your thoughts?" Jinsung asked, as he slowly approached her. While he did praise Bam often, he also felt that the lady in front of him was also a monster. During lessons, he always got the feeling that she never really pushed herself.
"I'm thinking of creating another style of attacking." Eran said, with a glint in her eyes. "I need to be better, faster, more adaptable..."
What gave Jinsung a shiver, was the fact that she was unconsciously smiling. He could feel Eran's hunger for greater strength.
"Do you need some help?" Jinsung asked. He was also curious what she wanted to do.
"Hm." Eran started. "I was thinking about the reason why we attack in the way we do."
"... Huh?" Jinsung was definitely confused.
"We all specialise in some form of attacking, because it is effective. Some attacks are more effective than others." Eran explained. "I was thinking, what attack must I do, for them to be effective? Do I need it to be strong in firepower? Does it need to be able to change according to my will?"

Eran sighed.
"Ah, I see." Jinsung understood what his student was saying. "Then, how about trying to evolve your current attacks?"
That caught Eran's attention.
" Whenever I attack your curtains, I feel my attacks slide off. How about trying to stop it and swallow it entirely? Rather then trying to move faster, how about moving slower when you're swinging your rod? That will improve your controls a lot." Jinsung suggested. "You have many great people beside you. Surely, you can try to reference off them?"
"..." Eran was in deep contemplation. "I will try. But I think I know where to go now. Thank you teacher."
Jinsung merely smiled, as he nodded his head. "Improvement is usually easier than starting over from scratch."
That night, Eran slept early, to prepare herself for the intense training she was going to put herself through. While everyone was still asleep, Eran woke up.
Then, she proceeded to do stretching. Her first idea was to keep sprinting for as long as she could, and push her body to the max. She wanted to see how much stress her body could take before it needed rest, without additional shinsu reinforcement.
Her stamina was average, buy average wasn't good enough for her. Eran would definitely work on it.
After that, Eran started swinging her rod normally for a while. Then she tried to slow it down, and Eran realised how hard it was to get the hook to go where she wanted it to.
Master was right, it is much harder.
Then, Eran tried to coat her fishing rod with shinsu to try and control it better, but it was extremely difficult to maintain it. Eran never knew controlling shinsu would be so difficult.
Fired up, Eran strove to improve herself.

She wanted to be able to last longer in fights, where she wasn't able to maintain her body with as much shinsu as usual. Her attacks must also be stronger, more violent, and more deadly.
...
Jinsung watched Eran train. He merely gave her a prompt, but she was already developing her own way.
She can also just mimic other people's shinsu attacks. She also have the residents to help her. How scary...
...
Every night, Eran would try to experiment with different ways of using her shinsu. Sometimes, she would try and compress layers of cloth to make a thicker layer of cloth. Although it didn't move around as much, it wasn't as thick as she had hoped.
Hm... Does the string need to be even finer?
A single strand of shinsu, Eran would try to make it even thinner, which was hard as the strings would start to dissipate back into shinsu.
It seems as though my control is still lacking. Haiz... Well, if I can't block attacks, I would just have to be faster than others I guess.
While Eran was in her room, she felt a foreign presence.
Ah, it's Karaka. Well, I shouldn't get involved. That mess isn't mine to take care of.
...
Eventually, Bam did wake up. Eran was overjoyed. She became a clingy koala for the next few days.
"Hwa Ryun..." Eran asked one day.
"Hm?" He replied.
"Where are we going now?" Eran asked.
"... In two years, there would be a workshop battle for the E- rank regulars." Hwa Ryun explained. "You can meet with your old teammates there."
"... I see." Eran merely said. "That's good..."
...
Eran was dazing off, when she heard her teammates mention something about the Devil's right arm, but was actually using his left arm.
Devil or not, any women pissed off is a demon.
Eran figured something interesting was happening, and sneakily followed the Horyang, the Teddy man all around. At night, him and Bam met on the roof. The teddy man wanted to check if bam was also a living ignition weapon like him.
No, it's only a shell.
Anyways, Horyang left soon after that.
Then, Eran stalked Bam. Knowing him, he would probably bring Horyang back.
"Let's go." Eran said, and she smiled.
...
Bam went to find an irritating rabbit lady. Eran wanted to kill her immediately, but she endured and let bam do the talking.
Suddenly, a loud rumbling sound could be heard.
Eran immediately dashed out of the hut, and ran towards the source.
"Wait, it's coming from the hand!" The rabbit lady shouted. "I told you to wait! There might be a trap!"
Bam ignored her of course, and followed Eran carefully. When they entered the hand, they saw Horyang lying on the ground, blood pooling around him.
"What have you done... To Mr Horyang...?" Bam asked, shocked.
Wait... Something doesn't add up here. Eran held up her hand to stop bam from dashing forward.

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!
