《Path to the Moon ✓》Selfish

Humans are selfish by nature, even when we think we are not being selfish. We are selfish in wanting to die for others—wanting to die for our loved ones. It is not the dead who suffer the most, but those living—those who, at least, still possess the ability to love. The dead, once gone, can never die again. The living are the ones who hurt the most and whose hearts grow so small they implode when a loved one dies. The dead will have died once, but the living will continue dying every moment they are without someone until the candle of their life is snuffed out for good as well. It is the living who must trudge on through life with one less person to love. If we could have the choice to die in the place of our loved ones, we would only be hurting them as they would be the ones to feel the pain of our absence.
