THE TWINS
Unfortunately Jade's luck with forgetting about Alec's visit was not that good.
On Monday morning she woke with a churning feeling in her stomach. Not even the thought of spending the whole morning with the twins helped Jade to get rid of the churning.
And her talk with her mother the previous day had made matters worse.
Sunday afternoon Jade had been interrupted again while she wrote by her mother's call.
"Jade, did you get a call from Mrs Carter yesterday?" Amanda Tucker exclaimed in a way of greeting as soon as Jade picked up the phone.
"Hi mom! I'm doing good. How are you?" Jade had replied sarcastically while she moved away from the laptop, preparing herself for a long conversation.
"Being sarcastic is not lady- like, Jade." She said, but Jade could here the smile in her voice, "But answer my question. Did you hear from Susan?"
"Yes I did mom. I know Alec's coming for a visit." The thought was still making her shudder.
"But do you know the reason why he's coming?"
Jade had mentally gone over her full conversation with Mrs Carter trying to remember if she had mentioned the reason for his visit. But nothing came to her mind.
"Not really."
"Well, I was speaking to Susan and she told me that Alec is coming back home to introduce his girlfriend to the family. Isn't that sweet? And if he is coming back all the way from Thailand, their relationship must be pretty serious, right? Alec in a serious relationship. Nicole married with adorable twins. When are you going to get settled and give me the grandchildren that I deserve?"
Amanda had been rattling on but Jade had stopped listening at the mention of Alec's 'serious' girlfriend.
"Wait.... Alec's girlfriend?" She managed to croak out.
"Yes. Her name is Emmaline Burns. She works in the PR firm which does all the publicity for Wanderlust. Isn't that cute?"
Amanda being a librarian, living in the world of romance novels, found a lot of things cute and adorable.

"Uh... Yes..."
The rest of the conversation had been carried out solely by her while Jade had been thinking about the development in the case of Alec's return.
She had just made agreeing noises in the right places till Amanda was satisfied.
Now as she remembered the conversation she groaned and buried herself under the covers once again.
Today's dinner was going to be bad. A nightmare.
At last, after groaning, mumbling and just simply complaining for half an hour, Jade got up from her bed and went for a bath.
She was supposed to pick up the twins from the Bradshaw house in a hour and a half.
She quickly took a shower and changed into jeans and a comfortable tank top.
Comfort was on top of the list while deciding on what clothes to wear when going out with the twins, because she knew she was going to spend most of her time running after them.
She locked her apartment and left for Nicole's house in her car.
Nicole lived practically on the other side of town.
She reached the pretty cottage which belonged to her favourite family and Jade rang the doorbell.
From outside the house looked serene and peaceful.
But Jade could clearly hear the sounds of yells and screams coming through the wooden door.
"Hi!" Nicole said on opening the door.
She had Nadia propped on her hip, who was busy stuffing her mouth full with her mothers blonde hair.
Behind Nicole, Jade could see Jason trying to pry Noah away from a potted plant.
"Hey!" Jade said with a bright smile.
The twins could brighten her mood no matter how grumpy she felt.
Once Nadia noticed Jade standing on the doorstep, an angelic smile immediately lit her pretty, cherubic face.
She extended her hands and yelled as loud as she could- which was pretty loud-, "Jady!!!"
Taking the clue Jade took Nadia out of her mother's arms and tickled her under her chin, which made the kid giggle and laugh.
The sound of his sister laughing was successful in taking Noah's attention away from the plant and made him focus on the presence of Jade.
Immediately he started wriggling and throwing his hands about. Jason put him down and he ran to Jade and stood hugging her knees.

"Hey Jade welcome to the mess, which is our house."
Though Jason sounded fed-up as he picked up the cushions and toys from the carpet and placed them in their right place, there was a bright smile on his face.
Jade could see why Nicole had fallen for Jason in high school. He was tall and broad- shouldered with dark brown hair.
His eyes, which were a sharp blue colour always had a look of absolute amazement in them.
"Hey Jason!" Jade walked into the house with Nadia still in her arms and Noah dragging behind her, his arms wrapped tightly around her knees, "How's the Lawrence case going?"
Jason was a partner at one of the biggest law firms in the city. He was successful and extremely good at the job he did.
"It's going good. I'll be wrapping it up soon." He said, giving Jade a special smile for remembering.
"He's acting all laid- back in front of you but Jade you don't have any clue how tensed and worried he was a few days back."
Nicole commented as she tried her best to pull Noah away from his tight grip on Jade's legs.
"Did you have to break my bubble in front of Jade?" Jason gave a mock- frown.
Nicole and Jade laughed.
"And how is my favourite goddaughter?" Jade said looking at Nadia in her arms who was frowning at the lack of attention.
"I'm dood!" She exclaimed loudly.
"It's good Nania. I am good Jady!" Noah corrected his sister from below.
Having come into the world five minutes before Nadia, Noah took his job as elder brother very seriously.
"Now are you? And show me that big bruise your mom was telling me about."
Noah proudly held out his arm and Jade could see a big ugly bruise on his elbow.
"I gave him that vruise!" Nadia said proudly.
Having picked up all the stuff from the floor Nicole came and sat next to Jade on the sofa where she was sitting with both Noah and Nadia on her lap.
"Nadia that's nothing to be proud about. Hitting your brother is not good." She said sternly.
In reply to the accusation, the 3 year old angel just gave a dazzling smile to her mother.
" My pretty daughter thinks that a smile can get her everything." Nicole laughed.
"Well she does get everything when she smiles. She's going to be a real heartbreaker when she grows up." Jade replied.
"Let's not talk about heartbreakers. She's not having a boyfriend till she is 30." Jason entered the room with the twins' bag in his hands.
"Says the guy who married my best friend when she was just 22." Jade smiled, taking the bags from him.
One with a Barbie on the front and the other with Winnie the Pooh.
They headed towards the door, with Jade clutching the hands of Nadia and Noah and carrying the bags on her back.
"Be safe. Nadia, Noah don't trouble Jady. Come soon, you don't want to be late for dinner do you?"
In the confusion of all the havoc created by the twins, the dinner had slipped from Jade's mind, but Nicole's reminder brought the churning feeling back to her stomach.
"Yeah.... See you in the evening." Jade said quickly before settling the kids in the car and getting into the driver's seat herself.
It had been decided earlier that Nicole would come in the evening to help Jade choose the dress she would wear for the dinner and also to pick up the kids.
Dinner. Even the word made Jade sick. She shook her head, smiled at Jason and Nicole and drove ahead.
Today was her day with the twins and No one was going to spoil it.
Not even Alexander Carter. Definitely not Alexander Carter.
