*Kondors Pov*
Lg: Little Girl
Kondor stands on top of one of the mountains out looking the chaos that brought the island to its knees. He once lived for this, but hes came to his senses since his father shunned him. He should have listened to his mother. Kondor longed to see his mother, he knew deep down that these were his final days.
Kondor hears the screaming of a child a little ways down the mountain. He rushes down and sees a group of shadows surrounding the little girl. Just before they reach her in a whirlwind with his blades he kills all of the shadows.
The girl looks up at him and still sits curled in a ball. He watches the child with curiosity, her eyes emulating that same curiosity. He helps her up and gives her a cherry blossom. He begins to walk away when he hears a little pair of feet following him. He feels the little girl clutch his jacket and he looks down to see the little girl with tears filling her eyes staring at him.
Lg: Can I please come with you, the monsters scare me.
Kondor is confused by the girls trust with him. How unafraid she is in his presence. Most humans cowered when around him but not this little girl. She still stares at him with her big teary eyes amd Kondor suddenly understands.
Her parents are gone, she doesnt have anyone. Kondor bends down and looks the little girl in the eyes even though she can't see his eyes.
K: I know a place where you can go little one.
Kondor takes her hand and descends down the hills with her. Towards the camp near Weeping Woods where Vi and the others are.
K: Whats your name?
Lg: Jade!
K: Thats a nice name.

Kondor thinks to himself, is he being nice? This human, a race he once thought to be petty and useless. Now he's making sure they dont get hurt. Jade puts the flower in her hair and walks along side him.
A shadow quickly hops out of the treeline and grabs the little girl. She lets out a scream and Kondor feels an urge to protect her. He throws one of his swords at the creature and hits it straight in the heart. It lets Jade go and she quickly runs back to Kondor, hiding behind him. He notices a cut on her leg and he bends down.
K: Hey I'm gonna need you to sit down ok?
She nods her head yes and she sits down holding her leg out to him. It isnt a cut or a bit from the shadow. Just a cut from a rock. He takes one of the bandages that wrap sround his leg and secures it around the cut. She winces as he tightens it and whimpers.
K: Alright are you ok Jade?
She moves her leg around a tiny bit and tries to stand up. She tries and is unable to do so. Kondor thinks of what to do and gets down on her legs. Jade looks at him, obviously confused.
K: Hop on my back.
The little girl carefully gets on Kondors back and watches as the campfire of the camp gets closer. Everyone rushes towards Kondor and Jade and Vi takes Jade off of his back.
V: Are you ok little girl? Did he hurt you?
J: No he saved me from the monsters.
Vi and the group looks at Kondor obvious very confused at his actions.
F: Did you really save her?
Kondor nods his head yes and he watches as Vi takes Jade to one of the tents. Fade pats him on the shoulder and walks back to his tent. And Kondor watches as the moon rises over the island.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!

Along for the Ride
Every child born on the continent of West Cartia is taught about the Great Goblin War but what the annals of history fail to mention is that the entirety of the conflict could be traced back to a group of four friends who stumbled into the currents of fate in search of a fantasy novel. This is the story of how a band of bookworms realized that when destiny pulled hard enough, struggling was futile; it was best to relax and go along for the ride.
