《Our Ancient Love》Chapter 29: After Our Deaths

"So me, you, Ahk, your parents, and even your dog had a past life?" Joana asks.

"Yes. I know it's weird, but trust me you'll get used to it," I say.

"I can't wrap my head around this."

"Yeah I understand exactly how you feel. When Ahk first told me, I didn't want to believe him, but I did my research and it turns out that he was right."

"So you mean to tell me that you're actually in the history books and that you're really the wife of the fourth king of Egypt?"

"Well I did my research on the internet and yes I am the wife of the fourth king of Egypt."

"Well if you're the queen and Ahk is the king, then what does that make me? Do I even have any part in this?"

I stop walking to look at Joana. "What are you even talking about?"

"You're such a big deal and I don't even know if I made any sort of importance in your life."

Before I can even open my mouth to talk, I suddenly get a flashback.

Everything seems like a blur as images of our life in Egypt flash past with a golden light. I can barely see anything until images of Joana flash by...

Joana runs into the room where she heard gasps. She immediately falls to her knees at the sight of her dead best friend and the dead king. She puts her hand where her friend's wound was marked. Her tears fall on the wound which make the blood spread faster on the ground. She picks her up in her arms as she lets out a loud cry. Her friend's parents dart into the room and gasp. Shepseheret and Merenkahre run into the room behind them. Everyone who was in the palace came into that one room to see their king and queen murdered in cold blood. Kahmunrah peers around the corner and smirks.

More golden lights flash by before more images catch my eye.

Kahmunrah was crowned king. He looks over the balcony and smiles as he sees his people suffering as loud cries and screams fill the atmosphere. He treats them as slaves and forces them to work long hours a day, no matter how old or young they were. He even forces his own parents as well as the parents of the queen to work for him. The punishment if anyone refused? .

Joana had enough.

With her fearless soul and the dagger that killed her best friend and the king, Joana was able to overthrow the king and bring about her and everyone else's rage. She killed Kahmunrah and when asked why she did it, she explained,"It was for the king and queen, for Egypt, and for me." She went on to rule as the new queen until her death.

I blink as reality sets back in. Apparently time seems to go slower in reality than in the flashbacks because everything seemed to still be the same. Joana looks at me to see if I would say anything. I give her a small smile as I try to hold back my tears. I give her a hug. She hesitates before hugging me back.

"What are you doing this for?" she asks.

I wipe my eyes and look at her. "I'm thanking you."

She looks at me confused. "For what?"

I chuckle as I put a hand over her shoulder. We start to walk again as we trail off into the bright, evening sun as I tell her her story.
