《Our Ancient Love》Chapter 1: Job Interview

Y/N - Your name
I stood at the front of The American Museum of Natural History wondering what awaits me in my future. I was a bit nervous for my interview because this was my first job interview ever. I hoped that I would get the job because I would hate to have to search for other jobs to find. I didn't want a basic job at the mall like a lot of other teenagers have. I wanted to try something different and I guess a job at a museum was not only different, but kinda abnormal for a teen.
I had been standing around for quite awhile so I took a deep breath and slowly walked up the steps of the museum. I opened up the doors and a breeze of cool air hit me. There were several other people in the museum, but they were guests. I walked up to the front desk and sitting there was a woman who was most likely in her 30s. She was typing on the computer so I politely got her attention.
"Uhm excuse me," I said, as she quickly looked up at me.
"Is there something you need?" she asks with a smile.
"Actually yes. I'm here for a job interview with Dr. McPhee."
"Oh yes that's right. You're Y/N. I remember he was telling us about you getting an interview today. Well I'll just show you to his office."
She got up from behind the desk and started walking toward the museum halls and I followed behind her. She took a couple turns until we were in a room where Dr. McPhee was sitting at his desk writing on some papers.
"Dr. McPhee, Y/N is here for her interview," the woman says.
"Ah yes. Thank you, Rebecca," he says, as he stands up walking towards me.

She leaves as she shuts the door.
"Well you can just take a seat. This interview will be pretty quick".
Well that's a relief. I take a seat.
"Alright so I'll be asking a few personal questions first. What's your first name?"
"Y/N"
"Last name?"
"Harper"
"Middle name if you have one."
"Sanura"
"Age?"
"17"
"Any jobs before this one?"
"No"
I watched as he quickly wrote everything down.
"Alright so there are two positions you can take: you can work morning shifts and be at the front desk with Rebecca, or you can work night shifts and be a night guard with Larry."
He looked at me waiting for an answer, but I couldn't decide what I wanted. Rebecca seems like a really nice person, but working at the front desk having to file paper work and other boring things seemed like a job office. And being a night guard seemed kinda boring too. I would just walk around to ensure that was no one wandering around the museum. But I guess it was better than working at a front desk.
"I guess I'll just be a night guard," I say, breaking the silence.
"Alright. Your first day is tomorrow and you are to be here no later than 6pm sharp. I'm not really sure if we have uniforms small enough for you since you're the youngest person to take a job as a night guard. But when I do, I'll give Larry your uniform so that he can give it to you tomorrow."
I nod my head trying to hold in my excitement. I just got my first job and my first day is tomorrow!
"Thank you Dr. McPhee. I will make sure that I'm here early and prepared for anything," I say standing up.

"Alright see you tomorrow," he says waving.
I walk out of the door and was about to leave the museum, but I decide to stick around and explore around a bit. I first look at the giant T-Rex at the front of the museum and then go over to Teddy Roosevelt. Before I can walk away I see Rebecca walking up towards me.
"So....." she says, waiting for me to answer.
"I got the job. My first day is tomorrow and I'm the night guard with Larry," I say confidently.
"Well congratulations. Being a night guard is actually really interesting. You'll have a lot of fun."
"I hope so."
"Well I'll see ya around. Bye," she says walking back to the front desk.
What could possibly be fun about being a night guard?
Before taking off to leave, I look at Teddy one last time. I walk over to the doors and turn around and wave goodbye at Rebecca.
I hope she's right about this job being fun.
