《Ancient God (Ancient Love Poetry)》Chapter 15: Lesson
Advertisement
As silent as death, the entire square was filled with a vaguely strange and uneasy atmosphere, and everyone looked in one direction in panic, because under this vast golden light, besides the Demon Emperor, Chang Qin, and Feng Ran, only one person was standing upright.
It was obvious that this golden light’s attack was with a particular purpose.
The person was shrouded in a black robe with an awkward posture, but at a glance, the aura under the black robe was very ordinary. If it were not for the Demon Emperor’s scorching eyes and deep expression as he stared at the figure, perhaps there would be no Demon Lord that believed that this person was the one who caused this chaos. After all, since the opening of the post-ancient world, they had never heard of anyone who could forcibly break open the guardian section of the Demon Realm. Of course, the three gods who never were involved in these matters were of a different group.
The black-robed man didn’t say anything for a long time. Everyone’s breathing slowly became rapid. In the entire square, only Feng Ran’s two hands were wrapped in front of her chest, squinting at the place of everyone’s attention with a pleasant expression.
After a moment, a low, shallow sigh came from the black robe, showing a sense of helplessness. Everyone immediately trembled inside. There was finally some movement, but it was also suspicious. Why did this voice sound so young?
“What is there to cover? Everyone has already discovered us, I already told you not to do these hidey-things.” A crisp, childish voice suddenly sounded, accompanied with a sort of natural complaint.
When the crowd raised their eyes, a soft, white, tender hand suddenly pulled away the black robe covering the person’s head, and the scene inside was instantly revealed to the crowd.
A very young man was standing in the middle of the square, holding a seven or eight years old girl. The girl had her back to the crowd, so they couldn’t see her appearance, but her bulging little buns on her head were very eye-catching. And the standing young man had a handsome face. Even if he was looking at the girl in his arms with a gentle expression at the moment, his body was still surrounded by a faint sense of oppression, warm and condensed. Several strands of golden flames burned inside his dark eyes, the same color as the golden light used just now to stop the Demon Emperor’s energy.
It seemed that he was rather helpless under the little girl’s complaints. The black robe covered the young man slowly disappeared, and a turquoise robe the color and luster of a first-class jade appealed in front of everyone. The young man with a cold and clear expression lowered his head, his face full of helplessness as he stared at the girl, saying, “Alright, I’ll listen to you now, don’t cause trouble.”
The voice was soft and gentle. Where was the bit of coldness?
Feng Ran looked at the two people close away who ignored the crowd, her eyes twitching one after the other. She secretly moved her tongue, a trace of suspicion appearing inside of her. This imposing girl couldn’t be…Hou Chi? She probably is!
Such a strange attitude with interacting…Thinking of the jokes and laughter when she first entered the Demon Realm, Feng Ran narrowed her eyes, a fox-like smile flashing across them.
“You broke into my THird Heaven as well as broke the barrier. Who exactly are you?” The Demon Emperor’s angry and prestigious voice came slowly, his eyes slightly flashing when his gaze swept to Hou Chi. He didn’t stop at her for a long time. He just stared coldly at the young man not far away, with faint impatience and solemnity in his voice.

Of course, he could feel the slight immortal aura on the girl’s body, and the young man’s huge aura. From what she could tell, the little girl should be a magical beast raised by the young man. She was used to love and petting, which was why she was so rude and arrogant.
The young man raised his head, the bright golden light burning in his eyes slowly disappearing, turning into pitch black once more. His mouth moved, and he coldly said, “Qing Mu of the Immortal Realm.”
As soon as the voice came out, the coldness inside made everyone shiver, but it still couldn’t compare with the shock brought by these six words. [1]
Lodd Qing Mu, the most mysterious and powerful immortal deity of the Immortal Realm these one thousand years. Once alone in the depths of the North Sea, he beheaded the ancient nine-headed snake group. After shocking the Three Realms, his whereabouts became a mystery. Few people knew his appearance, but they never thought that he would become so powerful. He was only a thousand-year-old high lord, but he had the power to suppress the Demon Emperor, it was very shocking to the heart.
No one was willing to go up against such an opponent, even the demons who liked fighting. The Demon Emperor’s face also changed. Thinking of the rumors in the Three Realms about Qing Mu with a strange temper, his eyes flashed and darkened. He knew that this person must not become an enemy of the Demon Realm, and he immediately grudgingly said, with a little smile, “So it’s North Sea Lord Qing Mu. The Immortal and Demon Realms have stopped fighting for a thousand years without any disputes. Why have you come to my Demon Realm today?”
If he mobilized the Demon World’s power, he may not be able to leave Qing Mu a life, but it was unwise to make enemies in this way. But for a high lord to be able to extinguish the purple fires of the Gate of Life and Death, even the Heavenly Emperor probably wasn’t able to do it so cleanly. If he could be of help during a conflict between the two realms, it may be a good thing.
Qing Mu’s lips moved. Before he could speak, a soft grunt came from the young man’s arms. The little girl who had always been looking at Qing Mu turned her head and said impatiently to the Demon Emperor, who wasn’t far away, “Tall guy, you talk too much. Looking at such an obvious scene, do you really need to ask a second time?”
The child was straightforward, banging the drums of all the demon lords in the square. It was fine for Lord Qing Mu to be daring to His Majesty, but how was this immortal beast with unknown origin being so unruly? Just when some demon lords wanted to step out with stern scolds, they saw the appearance of the little girl sitting in Qing Mu’s arms, and their expressions were stunned, with a bit of surprise appearing in their eyes.
The demon lords present were all people with strong spiritual powers, and there were few ugly people. Demon Lord Chang Qin and Lord Feng Ran, who stood in the middle of the square, were good examples. But everyone in the square faintly felt that even with their prosperous faces, they couldn’t compare to the little girl sitting in Qing Mu’s arms.
At the age of seven or eight, they could faintly see the elegance of the future. Her dark eyes were very agile, and she was playful with a bit of invisible coercion. A little snow-white fur was wrapped around her with nobility and elegance.

This was such a magnificent appearance. Not to mention the Demon Realm, even in the Immortal Realm, very few people would be able to compete with this. Was she the child of a retreated high lord?
Feng Ran stared blankly at the girl with raised eyebrows with her fox-faking-tiger act, [2] and she was also shocked. This aura was so familiar, so it was definitely Hou Chi, but since she arrived at Qingchi Palace ten thousand years ago, Hou Chi had never grown up, but she didn’t have such a stunning appearance. What was going on?
Sensing the almost invisible immortal aura on the little girl’s body, everyone couldn’t help but slightly shake their heads. This child was very beautiful, but she probably would not grow up. This was a sign of premature death!
The Demon Emperor had the same thoughts as the others. He faintly stared at the girl not far away who turned her head. His voice slowed down unconsciously, but the sharpness in his words didn’t disappear at all, “Lord Qing Mu, I won’t pursue you for being disrespectful to me, but you should at least teach this child well. Haven’t her family members taught her the manners used to treat her elders?”
Now, he didn’t dare assume Hou Chi to be an immortal beast, rather as a pampered child raised in a noble Immortal Realm family who had come out to travel with Qing Mu.
Qing Mu looked at Hou Chi, who was in his arms, the corners of his mouth slowly curling into a strange arc. Elders, manners? Perhaps the people in the entire Three Realms who could afford Hou Chi’s respectful etiquettes could be counted with one hand. Although the Demon Emperor was a noble leader of a realm, he didn’t have the qualifications.
It was just that this evil little god was probably going to show off her might. Thinking of Hou Chi’s strange temper after she became smaller, he raised his head and looked at the Demon Emperor with a smirking smile.
“Demon Emperor, since Sen Yu has canceled the marriage back then, then it only is naturally righteous to let Demon Lord Chang Qin leave the Third Heaven. But he forcibly kept her here. Regardless of morality or his duties as the Second Highness of the Demon Realm, this shouldn’t have been done. Lord Feng Ran gave Chang Qin a hand because she couldn’t stand the scene. They are of the same generation, so there isn’t anything wrong with it.” The indifferent and crisp voice sounded in the quiet square. After putting down her hands wrapped around the young man’s neck, the girl sitting in Qing Mu’s arms turned to look at the Demon Emperor, her eyes clear and majestic.
The Demon Emperor froze, the cold sweeping gaze making him feel a completely different pressure than the one Qing Mu gave off. He raised his eyes to the girl not far away, suspicion flashing in his eyes. Who in the world was this child?
“Qing Li made a sneak attack during the battle between the two of them and committed a big taboo. Although you have given her a punishment, it is obviously unfair. Moreover, you forcibly fought against Feng Ran, who is injured. You knew that you would win. Although this was for your loss of your son that year, you lost your air of the leader of a realm. I don’t think that Qing Mu made any mistake with his move. Although you are the Demon Emperor, you weren’t born when the Demon Realm was created. Although you could accept the Heavens’ will to be in charge of the Demon Realm, you are not qualified to put this realm under your tiger clan.”
“As for my manners…I’m afraid you don’t have the qualifications to question them!” It was still a crisp and warm childish voice, but it was full of cold meaning, as if…she was born with the dignity and majesty that could control the world.
Feng Ran touched her nose unconsciously and looked at the purple-faced Sen Yu with a smile in her eyes. Oh, this reckless Hou Chi, really didn’t fail God Gu Jun’s teachings…she really liked this.
One must know that a god’s identity was above the Three Realms. For example, God Gu Jun. Although he chose to build Qingchi Palace in the Immortal Realm, it didn’t mean that he was a person of the Immortal Realm. His rights and prestige, compared to the Demon Emperor, were quite different. It wasn’t exactly wrong of Hou Chi to criticize the Demon Emperor. But in her current form, it really seemed a bit absurd!
Did she actually say that I am not qualified to be in charge of the Demon Realm? What a crazy little child!
The wicked pupils in the Demon Emperor’s eyes suddenly shrank. He looked at the serious girl far away. The corners of his mouth curled up, revealing a bit of anguish. Right when he was about to talk, he heard Qing Mu’s helpless voice close by, the anger rising in his chest stopping in an instant.
“Little Chi, your words are too serious. His Majesty the Demon Emperor has been in charge of the Demon Realm for many years. Even if he doesn’t have a lot of credit, he has done a lot of hard work. How can you say that he is not qualified to be in charge of the Demon Realm?”
Little Chi? Qing Mu’s voice lingered. The Demon Emperor looked at the little girl in his arms who was not angry or prestigious. He took a breath, with a look of disbelief in his eyes.
As far as he knew, the god title was highly respected in the Three Realms. There was only one person in the Nine Continents and Eight Areas named after a pond–she was the little god that God Gu Jun waited for ten thousand years to hatch. Before she hatched, she already had a god status. She was…Goddess Hou Chi!
[1] “but it still couldn’t compare with the shock brought by these six words” – In the original novel, there are four words: “仙界清穆”, directly translating to “Immortal Realm Qing Mu”. This could also be used in the translation, but “Qing Mu of the Immortal Realm” sounds more appealing in the English language. (what do you think?)
[2] “fox-faking-tiger” – The idiom “狐假虎威” means to flaunt something using another powerful connection. For example, in the famous story in which this saying was born, the fox tricked the tiger into thinking that he scared all the forest animals away when in reality, it was really the tiger behind the fox who did

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

Cast Under Ellitis
Ellitis, a world of sword and magic. Massive in size, with most of its surface unexplored. Where dragons and spirits dwell amongst men and demi-humans, where gods and devils alike barter with mortals and immortals. Beautiful as it might seem, mystical even, Ellitis is not a world for the frail. It is a place where the strong prey upon the weak, and where the weak struggle with every fiber of their being to overthrow the strong. It is here, in an unsuspecting corner of this world, that an unfortunate soul was born an orphan by the mischief of beings untold. Eliot Wyon, formerly known as Eliot Alderman, was just a mediocre engineering student in his past life. Perhaps without any help, this life of his will be just as boring as his last. But throw in an impish ex-goddess to help him along. Maybe, just maybe, he could make this life a bit more interesting. ----------------------------------------**Author's Note**---------------------------------------- Hello Everyone, I am Vi, Cat Vi. This is my first attempt at writing a story. I am a complete beginner at this. The closest thing to an organized story I’ve ever written is essay reports back in high school. There might be syntax errors and weird language all over the place. So, apologies in advance. I’ll be trying my best to make this story as interesting as possible, and with your feedback I am sure I can make something nice out of it. Constructive criticism is appreciated. And you are welcome to comment any errors you might notice. I’ll try to fix them up as soon as I can. For now, I don’t have a schedule. But if the story gets traction, I will try to work something out. **Cover Image Drawn by me.

Being the God of Hell is a bother [On temporary hiatus]
A group of people dies in a plane crash, but their souls are snatched away by an entity called the Highest One, that wants to make them the gods of a new world in order to guide and control its population. One of the passengers, Viktor, protests this, saying that the people of the new world should be entitled to find their own path in life without immortal beings ruling over them. The Highest One then ask Viktor if he really has that much faith in humanity, and after Viktor answer positively he made him into the God of Hell, tasked with redeeming the souls of the damned, as a way to test Viktor's faith in humanity... EDIT: I'm reworking this novel a bit, changing the first chapters from the "screenplay" form to standard prose. I should be done and start a shedule of one chapter per week at the end of february.
