Going to the mall with my six year old sister is amazing. She sees things the way nobody sees them and points them out. Every Friday we go to the mall and get some real Italian Gelato. She loves it and for me it's a reward for surviving another week. It's hard to care for a six year old, my depressed mom and myself and also go to school to become a doctor. And I won't even start about the homophobes at school.

'Will, look at the cloud it's like a sun and skull hugging.' Susan's cheerful voice interrupts my train of thoughts. I follow her finger and look at the 'skullsun' as she calls it. She is, as always, right about the shape. 'How was your day Susi?' She had given herself the nickname and she loved it when I said it.

'I made a drawing of an apple today in school, but that's about it. And I played with Luke. How was yours?' 'Mine was okay. I helped a kid after he got beaten.' I don't tell Susan the entire story. She will understand it but she will worry too much. The kid was being insulted in the hallway. They shouted '' 'fag' at him and 'It's your fault your sister committed suicide'. At that point he suddenly threw a punch at the leader Octavian. One of the bulky dudes shoved him against a locker and punched him in the face, then they all started kicking him in the chest. It stopped when I shouted: 'stop it!' And ran forward while calling for a teacher. When I turned around to face them they were already leaving. But the kid had also disappeared. For the rest of the day I couldn't get it out of my head.

'Will are you with your head in the clouds. We just walked past 'Gelato Italiano' ' my little sister looked at me with her big blue orbs and I smiled. 'Sorry I was distracted.'

Ten minutes later Susan is lost in thoughts while licking her strawberry ice cream. 'Faggot' I hear behind me. Out of habit I look towards the sound. On the other side of the fountain I see the kid I helped when he was getting beaten this afternoon and the most popular kid of the school, Octavian. He is popular but he is a bully.

As I watch the boy gets punched in the chest making him stumble back against the side of the fountain. Octavian says something I can't hear and pushes the boy into the blue water of the fountain. Then he walks away.

'Susan, stay here. I'll be back in a sec.' I run to the boy and help him up. 'hi I'm Will and you are..?' 'Nico, thank you but I don't deserve help. I deserve what he just did to me.' 'Nobody deserves that, so why would you.'

The next few days I learn Nico how to live life while ignoring bullies. We become close friends in a short amount of time. I also develop a tiny (read as Huge enormous big) crush on him.

five months after the fountain meeting, Nico comes storming into my kitchen. I gave him the key because I often don't hear the doorbell when I'm caught up in my music. He is panting and it looks like he has been crying. 'Will I need to tell you something but don't get mad please. I like you, like, like like you and I don't know what to do.

For about ten seconds I stare at Nico who is looking at me expectantly, his pink lips slightly parted from running. Split second decisions have changed my life before, and this one changed my life completely. I run to Nico and kiss him. After a moment Nico kisses me back.

This is the start of a love story
