When he promotes to Bishop, izuku gains enhanced magical abilities which he can use to conjure up a multitude of spells (offensive, healing, etc.). When he promotes to rook, Izuku gains increased superhuman strength, leading to high offense and defense. However, he is not very quick, and can get beaten easily by a high-speed opponent.
