《Youth || Klaus Mikaelson》15

"What's wrong with me?" Jenna, my mom asks me, confused.
"Do you remember what happened, mom?" I ask.
"Elena called me. She was so scared. Oh, ah, I should have realized that it wasn't her. The second I walked out of the house, someone made me fall to the floor or something a witch." Jenna explains.
"Are you sure it wasn't Klaus?" Elena asks and Jenna shrugs.
"It wasn't. I've been with him all day other than Katherine. Klaus did give her vampire blood though and I watched Katherine call her."
"What are you saying?" My mom asks. "I'm a vampire?" She asks. "What's happening?" My mom, Jenna panicked.
"We're at the quarry. He brought us here. Klaus turned you into a vampire and compelled you to forget everything. I'm going to do everything to get you out of here. I'll try again." I say.
Greta uses her magic to throw Elena away from us, than me away from Jenna. She put rings of fire around me, Elena and Jenna individually.
"Greta, please let her go!" I say.
"Klaus chose her." Greta responds.
"To torture me. It's what he does. He wants to see me vulnerable and weak but you can't take this out on her." I say.
"It's not me. It's Klaus." Greta says putting the ring of fire around Jenna now.
"No!" I shout, cause there's no way of saving her.
—
"How are you feeling?" Elena asks Jenna.
"I feel like myself... only not. Everything is brighter. The fires hotter. Part of me is terrified, but there's another part of me that doesn't want to feel anything." Jenna explains.
"Vampires can turn off the part that's human. That's the part that hurts." Elena explains.
"I'm gonna die, aren't I?" Jenna starts tearing up.
"Mom, I'm not going to let that happen. I will do everything to stop that from happening." I say and Jules comes out and a ring of fire goes around her.

"Greta, witches are suppose to maintain the balance in Nature. It's your duty to them to keep this curse sealed." Elena says.
"My duty is to Klaus!" Greta shouts. "The new order."
"Glad to know I still have a dance partner. Hello, my lovelies. Are we ready?" Klaus asks us and I was panicking in my head. We know Elena's coming back, but we don't know about me and my mom has 0% chance on surviving.
Greta starts chanting and klaus walks over to us.
"I know you and Tyler are close." Jules says to me. "Everything I did... I was just trying to help Tyler. I didn't want him to be alone." Jules tells me and I nod.
Jules' ring of fire disappears, meaning Klaus is going to kill her. Jules tries to attack Klaus, but Klaus ripped out her heart in less than 4 seconds.
He goes back up by Greta as she's chanting.
"The day that the lawyers called to tell me that I was going to become your guardian, you know what my first thought was?" Jenna asks Elena. "Isn't there someone else who can do this?"
"Jenna, there was no one else who could have gotten me and Jeremy through all of that." Elena tells Jenna.
"And Ashley, when I gave birth to you, it was the best thing that happened in my life. Even if Mason looked after you—"
"Mom, he didn't raise me. After you came back you made sure I was healthy, caring, respectful, and you took care of me perfectly."
"And I'm sorry—"
"Ashley, no. It's okay, it was impossible for us all to get out of this mess, including me. Promise me one thing, just one thing."
"Anything, I promise." I say, as tears fall down my face.
"I got pregnant with you when I was in high-school, my teen years, even though everything ended out perfectly, the actual pregnancy part was the worst. Promise me you won't do what I did. Have your epic love, but don't get pregnant when you are a teen. Wait— you're not going to be—"

"Mom, I'll be alive. I'll survive to promise you i won't be a teen mom."
"Jenna, being a vampire intensifies your guilt. But it also makes you stronger and faster. You can fight back. Me and Ash are gonna get through this. We will be ok. I need you to believe that. But when you get the chance... run." Elena says and Jenna nods.
"Hello, Jenna." Klaus walks up to her circle.
"Let her go." I say and he just chuckles.
"You already tried this, and failed." Klaus responds
"She didn't do anything—" I walk close to the run of the circle and the fire intensified.
"Careful." Klaus says in a non-caring voice. "Well, well. Don't recall you being on the guest list." Klaus turns around and we all see Stefan.
"I'm here to talk." Stefan says and Klaus goes up to where Stefan is, but we can't hear them.
—
Jenna found out that Stefan wanted to replace her in the ritual. But, Klaus disagreed and stabbed Stefan with a wooden stake.
"I have to do something. I can't, I just can't." I pace back and forth, panicking.
"I think it's a little too late for that, love." Klaus says as Jenna's circle lowers.
"It's all right, Ashley. I know what I have to do." Jenna runs and bites the witch, Greta, but Klaus is obviously way stronger than her and stakes her in the lower back.
"Mom!" I shout, terrified. "Mom, turn it off. You won't be scared anymore." I shout but before she can Klaus stakes her in the heart.
"No! Mom!" I screamed like I was the one being killed. I just watched my mom die right in front of me. Tears were running down my face constantly. "No, mom." I sob.
It has been a while. At this point, I was hyperventilating.
"Ash, you need to breathe, or you'll die before you need to." Elena says.
"She's dead. I had to watch my own mother die." I cry out. "And now I'm gonna die."
"No your not." Elena whispers. "It'll work." Elena says and I shake my head.
"No, it won't."
"Ashley, I promise you it will. You'll wake up on a couch, and I'll be right beside you, holding your hand, ok?" Elena asks, still whispering and I shake my head, still not believing it.
Klaus walks over and my ring of fire lowers. "It's time."Klaus tells me, staring into my eyes, and I just walk.
"I believe you were the huntress, you're nothing like the others." Klaus says because biting into your neck.
Elena's screams were fading, so was the pain... and everything just went dark.
—
Elena wakes up, not a vampire.
"Where's Ashley?" Elena asks.
"She's in the other room." Stefan says.
"Did she wake up?" Elena rushes to you and sees you aren't up yet. "How will we know?"
"We won't know." Damon says, looking down. Elena bends down next to you and holds your hand, like she said she would.
"Come on, Ash." Elena says, squeezing your hand and you gasp, waking up. "Oh my god, Ash are you ok?"
"I feel fine. You're here." I smile at Elena.
"Well, I did promise you." Elena says but tears just started coming down right away. Elena pulls you into a tight hug and you break down.
—
🎵
We all go out to the graveyard for my moms funeral. We were all wearing black and I was wearing my moms necklace.
I walk up to her grave and place down a rose. I look at my necklace and kiss it. "Love you always." I say, tears coming down again.
Everyone else says their goodbyes and we all leave.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.
