"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Theo teased when he saw how Stiles was staring at him.
Stiles' gaze didn't falter. Instead, he continued to look at the chimera as if he were a complex physics problem, analyzing him in a way that made Theo grow increasingly uncomfortable. He shook his head slightly.
"I️ don't get you," Stiles admitted. "I️ mean, you've managed to take everything I've ever thought about you and prove me wrong."
Theo shrugged.
"I️ guess I️'m just full of surprises," he replied with a smirk, continuing to act coy.
Stiles rolled his eyes, walking closer to Theo.
"I'm serious. Why you?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" Theo countered.
He felt like he was going to melt under Stiles' gaze. He found himself feeling physically flushed and emotionally vulnerable. He and Stiles had established their feelings for one another, but that didn't mean that Theo was suddenly ready to fully let him in. He didn't even know if he was capable of letting anyone in.
"When I️ lost control, it was you that brought me back. Of all the people in the world, you're the one that keeps me from falling off the edge. And I️ spent so much time trying to figure out your masterplan: your ulterior motive only to find that you actually care," Stiles explained.
Theo tried to shrug it off, ignoring the tightness in his throat.
"So what if I️ do?" he retorted.
"So then why don't we just..I don't know, do this?" Stiles asked.
"Do what?" Theo utterly softly as Stiles came closer.
Stiles swallowed, clenching his hands into fists and then flexing his fingers as grew more and more nervous about what he was about to say.
"This: us. I️ know it's complicated and the timing is probably all wrong and neither of us ever could have imagined that anything could ever possibly happen between but...at this point why not just make whatever this is official?" he asked.

It felt as if his words were too powerful, immediately sucking all of the air out of the atmosphere around them. Having the "what are we" discussion was terrifying enough, and having it with Theo was even scarier.
Before Theo could even respond, Stiles found himself talking once again.
"You know what? It's stupid. I️-I️ shouldn't've even brought it up I️ don't know what I️ was thinking I️ just-" he began.
"Stiles," Theo cut off, his voice the stillness that made the room stop spinning. But now everything felt like it was almost too still and Stiles could hardly take it.
That was when Theo took Stiles' hand in his, a gesture of comfort: just what needed in that moment.
"It's not stupid," Theo continued, his tone surprisingly sincere.
Stiles nodded, processing.
"So, uh, I️ mean...what do you say?" he asked.
And just like that, Theo went back to being a coy asshole. He shrugged.
"What do I️ say to what?" he asked, playing dumb.
"To what I️ just asked you," Stiles replied annoyed.
Theo smirked.
"Well, I️ don't really know, since technically you haven't asked me anything yet," he said.
Stiles rolled his eyes.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
"Completely," Theo replied.
Stiles sighed.
"You're an asshole," he said.
Theo gasped sarcastically and put a hand over his heart.
"Ouch. That's definitely not going to make me want to say yes," he teased.
Stiles grunted.
"Ugh, okay, fine," he caved. He then cleared his throat. "Theo, will you be my boyfriend?"
Theo nodded.
"Yes," he replied before gently kissing Stiles.

Post War Rules
Life on Torus Terminal is usually fast paced, but simple. A frontier Terminal has little room for easy living, but the great, circular station does boast shopping and culinary experiences from many Imperial races and cultures. Any star is, by its nature, extremely far from its neighbors. But laser highways, and the great shimmering sails of the light-rider spaceships make the trip into only about ten years. Still, the denizens of Torus Terminal eagerly await the day when the Anti-Euclidean Engine their station is built around finally comes online. Once that is done, they will have unfettered access to the entire Empire. Instantaneous travel and trade across hundreds of stars. Torus Terminal does boast one other oddity: a creature which calls itself Human. As he says, the last of his kind for now. He has made quite the life for himself on Torus Terminal, especially in the darker corners of the station. The elites of Torus Terminal praise his name, for once he took up arms, crime began to fall. What they did not realize was that was because he had claimed the seedy underbelly of Torus Terminal for himself and his own goals. The elites praise him as a paragon of law. The criminals fear him as a ruthlessly clever crime boss. Those closest to him, know him as the General. This story was originally posted on the Humanity Fuck Yeah subreddit, where it evolved from a simple play on a historical figure in a science fiction setting into a full blown space opera. I kind of took it as an opportunity to explore a setting I've had rolling around in my head for years. I also decided that it would be nice to have it in a place where I could more easily come back and edit it later, so I'm reposting it here. Here's a link to the original posting if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/e9cwpl/post_war_rules/ If my genre and tagging is subpar, let me know. I'm still new to Royal Road and I'm open to help. Feel free to comment and make suggestions, or discuss. I love comments, and so long as we keep things civil I also love criticism.

I'm Always Talking to Myself
My name is Zach. I’m a typical bland featureless protagonist type. The kind of guy who has purposefully few defining characteristics so that people can project whatever they want on me. Like Luke from Star Wars or what’s her name from Twilight. Most main characters are like me. Kind of flavorless blank slates because we all secretly doubt that we’re Harrison Ford, but pretty much anyone could be Mitt Romney. Yep. Yes indeed, I do spend basically my entire life running an internal dialog to no one. Usually I’m imagining that there are people listening. Like maybe philosophers from Ancient Greece, or researchers from another planet who act suspiciously like the characters from that Instagram comic with the aliens. Stupid Instagram comedians stealing my internal monologue and turning into a wildly successful enterprise which I would imagine has a vibrant merch dropshipping arm and hundreds of thousands of daily dopamine hits for loyal followers. I basically spend all of my time explaining random things to imaginary people (and aliens, and animals, and household items which have inexplicably gained sentience and frankly have some concerns about this whole existence thing). Honestly, it’s both highly entertaining to me, in that it makes me think about why we humans do all of the bizarre things that we do, but also horrifically exhausting and kind of makes you feel like you’re either, worst cast, losing your grip on reality, or best case, becoming Abed from Community. Anyway, I’m sure that I have some distinguishing characteristics, but, in the interest of hypnotic suggestion I’m choosing to omit them until I’m pretty sure that you have subconsciously come to identify with me, or until I feel like it. (By the way, in case I forgot to mention it, a higher power called Aww Thor or something told me to say that this is a slice-of-life comedy adventure and that it's set in a fantasy world with isekai and LitRPG elements.)
