(Thank you Flamingo943 for the suggestion! :D)
*Californias POV*
I'm helping Texas pack the last of his clothes into a suitcase... He's not even gone yet and I already feel like this next week is going to be hell. I might be needy, but I crave physical attention...
"Cali? Hey, what's wrong babe?" Texas says, giving me a hug.
"I'm gonna miss youuuu," I whine. Texas chuckles.
"I'll text you every night ok?" Texas says
"Call me," I say. He nods.
"I'll call you... I gotta go now, I don't wanna miss my flight," Texas said. I give him a kiss, and he goes on his way.... oh god, is it pathetic that I already miss him? I guess that's newlyweds for you; can't spend a damn second without each other. I know we've been annoying our friends with how much we talk about each other, and how sickeningly sweet our relationship is. I sigh, might as well clean the house...
I decided to first go through our closet, so I can donate the old stuff that doesn't fit me anymore. I'm no longer a size zero, but I don't mind. I'm staying healthy, and I'd much rather have food in my stomach than starve myself again. That's when I find a small box... that's weird. It looks pretty old and beat up. I open it, and see a stack of worn, stained paper....
Out of morbid curiosity I take out the papers, and I read the first one. It's dried and stained in such a way that hints it was wetted by many water droplets, or some liquid.
Master,
I don't know what to do anymore. The Union boys were rounding us up, and I could not even describe the looks on their faces. Some looked betrayed at their old friends. Some were smirking victoriously. Some looked stoic. I'm writing this in the jail cell. Since I was your personal servant they are keeping me here until they are sure I am ready to swear allegiance to the Union... I don't know if I can... I don't know what to do.... so I'm writing a letter to you, even though I'll probably never see you again, never feel your touch again, your pain, your punishments... did you even love me, Master? Did you ever care? But I guess it does not matter. I love you Master, even if you never felt the same. I love you

What the hell? I know this is Texas's handwriting... let me look at the first note.
General Confederate,
I am honored you've picked me as your righthand man. I will do my best to help you. I may not act as a good messenger, for I am still learning English. It is ok if you reconsider your choice.
So he was Confederates right hand man? What else is in here?
After a few hours, I realized the rabbit hole I fell down... most of the notes had to do with the war, but all of them were speckled with flattery. I guess I'll ask Texas about it when he gets home...
To be honest, I don't know too much about his life during the civil war... other than the stuff America shared. Apparently, Confederate kept Texas as his 'pet'. He was just an object to push around, hurt and... well... kiss. I just can't believe Texas put up with him. I don't know how or why he did.
No matter, I'll just try to move on...
(I know it's a short chapter, sorry 😅)
