Ch. 18 How bold
"I will protect you." She said in a Soft voice, but many things were currently running through my mind.
All these things have been happening under my nose and I had no idea? Was I truly even a King. How could a King not sense this?
Silence filled the room but I felt Mala hand took mine and held it, I didn't know that a simple gesture. A simple touch could ease me down especially coming to find out about all the hits that have been shot at me.
I knew my Mother by law wanted me dead but to know so many hits have already been thrown to me by different people is absurd. Like I don't even know what I did to them in the first place.
I didn't miss the look that crossed Mala face when she learned about my age and how old I was. She looked like she knew something and looked I hate to admit terrified me. She knew something, hell she probably knows a lot of things and she hasn't told me at all what they're.
I wanted to know what she knew, I needed to know because if something or someone was coming for my life. I wanted to know who and end it.
No one else would have let Mala, taken on such a role of giving orders to my people but it simply came to the fact that I trust Mala and to be quite honest. I trusted her more than my family myself. Of course, it didn't take an idiot to know that family will kill a family member, especially in this time.
"Tut, look at me." She said and I made eye contact with her, I saw that she was worried, it showed in her eyes and I would have had a smirk that very moment on that fact itself that she was worried about me.
It just wasn't the time or matter to do that.
"We got this okay? You and I got this, we will get through this." She said and the words for some reason gave me a lift.
She ran her fingers through my hair, which calmed me down even more.
She had no idea what she was doing to me, did she know that if anyone picks up on her traits that it would be hard not to fall for her.
The doors opened, Mala dropped her hand as she turned around to look. I also turned around to find Kaiden holding onto the Woman who prepares my food. Salem looked angrily at the Woman as if he could kill her right there and then.
Salem was one of my most loyalist guards, which is why I wanted him to protect Mala and so was Kaiden. Which is what I was going to tell him at the end of this.
Kaiden let go of the woman and she dropped to the floor.
Mala suddenly got up and the woman eyes widen as she looked around her surroundings, her eyes widen even more when she looked at the guy who has been questioned, she looks from him to me with widened eyes of fear, not fear of feeling bad but knowing that something has been revealed. when she took Mala in with her eyes, it was like her body was shaking.

The Woman in the ground was shaking in fear.
I raised a brow as to how this Woman body started shaking when she looked at Mala but not at me, I was the King and I could bring wrath to her but when I turned to look at Mala face I understood.
In the short period of time, I have come to know Mala I have never seen that look on her face that was a mix of Anger and Disgust. It was a look of hatred. If looks could kill that Woman would be killed in a heartbeat from just that look alone.
"Your King has been aware that someone in his own household has been poisoning him. You must really not want to live, you must really hate breathing to actually be able to do something like this. I wonder, what reasons do you have to do such a thing but have no fear. I understand that doing this means you don't want to live and are looking for an end. You shall have it, of course, you want to die? Then you will die. But it could be changed, what are your reasons?" Mala said in a tone that could bring a shiver down anyone's body.
The Woman looked speechless and angry at the same time, she was angry? Did she honestly feel bold at this moment to have the nerve to feel angry?
I stood up from the chair and the chair fell, making a loud thud noise that had the woman flinching.
"Oh, so you do Fear your King? I mean I already know you don't care for me but the fact that you Fear me is a little shocking considering you trying to kill me and all. Kinda lowers your points don't you think?" I said as I walked towards her.
It was like her eyes couldn't widen even more. She honestly looked like a bug, if only I could squash her.
literally just step on her right now and squashed her like the little sneaky bug she was.
What the heck? I've been hanging out with Mala to much.
"I'm sure every Evil person has a reason on what made them turn evil or why they started doing evil things so I want to hear yours. Tell me what I did to you so badly that you wanted to kill me? Last time I check I haven't done anything to you at all." I said to her and she avoided looking in my eyes.
I was starting to lose my patience, honestly, I really was at the point where I was getting tired and had enough.
"First thing first, whatever do you think the King has done. Have you seen him do it with your own eyes or has someone told you he's done it." Mala said and the woman quickly looked up with a shock expression.
Mala shrugged as if it didn't amuse her that she hit a point with the woman.
"You know people lie, they lie especially when they want to have power over someone. Even when they want the person to do their dirty work." Mala said and the woman shook her head.

"No, he killed my son the King killed my son." The woman said and my eyes widen.
She said I did what?
Did I kill her son? Of course not.
"So you started poisoning him because of hearing that he killed your son? How do you know he has? Have you seen your Son's body?" Mala asked and the woman looked at Mala with an angered expression.
"I know he had my son Killed do not take me as a foolish woman," The woman spat out angrily.
"I would never. I respect mothers who love their sons. You're a mother who has strong emotions towards her child and to know that you have lost one I would never disrespect that." Mala said softly and the woman was taken aback by the words that were used.
"What was your son's Name?" She asked the woman and the woman raised her head,
"Zaxton was my son's name." She said and the room fell quiet. I let out a laugh that shocked everyone in the room.
Even Mala looked at me like I have gone insane.
I held my stomach as I continued laughing so hard, that tears were running down my face.
"Uh, Tut? You okay? I mean, do you need to be put in a white room or something?" She asked and I didn't even bother showing my confusion.
"You asked me why I poisoned him because he doesn't care! He is cruel and has done such a thing to my child but laughs at it. I don't care what you do to me. You can kill me all you want but I do not regret what I have done!" She yelled.
I stopped laughing.
I stood up straight with all seriousness.
"Woman, your son isn't Dead. I just hired him and have him working undercover for me doing some task. I had to have his identity changed and made him lose contact with some people. He isn't dead but alive. What's even funnier is, he's supposed to come report to me today on the information he has collected so far." I said and the woman looked at me with a confused expression.
A knock came on the door and one of my guards opened it.
"Sir, Zalic is here with information. Shall we bring him here or have him wait for you in the normal room?" The guard asked but I gave a laugh.
"No, bring him Here," I said, I turned my head to look at the man who's been sitting down, the man who was going to get grilled with more questions.
"I can't wait to hear the stories that got you in this situation," I said, no humor was found in my voice but still I smiled.
I turned back around when the door was opened again, in walked Zalic with his blonde hair.
"Zaxton?!" The Woman on the floor said bringing his hand to her mouth.
"Mama, what are you doing here? Mama, what's going on?" Zalic asked his mom and then looked at me.
The woman was crying, finally breaking down.
"Your mother thought I killed you," I said sitting down on my chair, watching the woman impression changed as she looked at me from her son.
"I don't understand, I don't understand they told me you were dead. They brought me your clothes with blood and your bracelet that you've never taken off." The woman said.
"Mother who are you talking about?" Zalic asked, getting on the floor and pulling his mother into his arms.
"You know, someone is fucking with us and I think it's time we wrap this up and figure out who because I have a feeling, in the future we're going to have multiple people fucking with us this way. So no offense but Ma'am, I'm going to need to know your story and you." Mala said turning around.
"If you think you being quiet means we forgot about you, well you're wrong. I'm getting tired of this and I haven't even eaten. So you two better explain because your son isn't dead so someone has been using you both as puppets." Mala said
"It's pretty funny how your King is actually innocent. On what you've accused him of. Tell me, do you still wished to be dead and have no regrets?" Mala asked in a cold tone.
Mala looked at me. Giving me a look, to be honest, I was just going to let her do the work. She's good at it anyways but I realized I was King.
"Well everyone, let's get to it then. If I was such an Evil King you would have been killed but of course, I care for Zalic and you're his mother. So tell me your story and please make it a good one because I'm getting tired of this backstabbing." I said running my fingers through my hair.
Mala walked towards me and put her hand on my shoulder.
"I would like to know yours too. I feel like you both have been used as puppets, hell maybe that other guy in the other room is being used as a puppet also. You guys are a part of a game, so do tell us your stories. I like solving games and riddles anyways." Mala said as she played with my hair, my eyes closed as I took in the feeling
I didn't even know I was leaning in.
"There's one thing you all should know, I don't like when people hurt My Tut."
She said which had my eyes opened up as I realized I leaned back to her touch and she was looking down at me. She gave me a smile and looked straightforward to the woman.
"So, start." She said in the same cold tone that probably had shivers running through their bodies but to mine, it had me feeling something else.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
