IT WAS Friday, and as promised, I had to pick the girls up from school, and take them back to my place. Our client, Keron James, was relinquished of all charges. If anything else was brought up, they needed solid evidence to prove that he was guilty, and not make him a scapegoat again.

I was in my office going over the cases of the other two clients who we were defending in court. Both court dates were set for the following week.

I sighed, as I leaned back in my leather chair, and clasped my hands on my lap. My own conflicts were on my mind as well, and the uncertainty of it all was quite confusing. Addison was very affectionate, yet in a way very distant. I knew that what we shared was nothing more than what it was, and ever since that time in her apartment, I tried to not acknowledge her advances.

If I had to be in her office when we were discussing a case and our strategies, I made sure to stand at all times, and have my hands clasped in front of me. As soon as she would walk closer to me, I would turn and pretend to look at something in a folder that I kept with me for such circumstances. If she touched me, I would immediately bring up a topic, and step away from her.

I couldn't tell her that I didn't want to continue our fling, since she was my Boss. But I also knew that I didn't want it to end either. Being the object of someone's sexual desires was intriguing, and made me feel youthful, but I didn't like the idea of the consequences of the inevitable end of whatever we were. It was best to stop before things got too messy.

Since Addison was coming over for the girls' sleepover, I knew that I had to be on my guard, and refuse any of her attempts to get close to me. But, maybe, I didn't even have to. She must've already found someone else to take my place in her life, or probably had that person all along.

Rubbing my temples, I stood from my chair, and stretched my back muscles. I had a certain uneasiness in my chest, as I headed out of my office, and towards hers. Her assistant's eyes were always glued on her computer's screen. I opened the door, making sure to leave it open, before I walked further in.

She removed her attention from her window, and turned to acknowledge my presence, "I'm going to go pick up the girls," I said. She nodded, "I can give you the address to meet us at my place."

"I'm not sure that I can make it," of course you can't. My eyes lowered to the floor, "it's probably best that I don't mess up my daughter's friendship with her best friend. I've already repelled her mother from me."

I bit down on my bottom lip, as she leaned against her desk, and crossed her arms over her chest, "okay then," I said. I wasn't sure if her words held emotion, or if it was just me being emotional. Leaving her office took all the strength that I had in my body. I wanted her, but maybe, she didn't feel the same. We're just sex, Samantha. Why do you always get your feelings involved?
