"Um, Tamaki, what's your favorite song?"
The once abandoned music room was now filled with chatter coming from the people inside. A cluster of young girls in pale, yellow dresses--that was supposedly the females' school uniform--verbalizing amongst the Host Club, mostly getting flattered by them.
"What song?" Tamaki repeated. "The one that reminds me of you, of course."
"I baked you a cake today. Would you like to taste it?" Another girl asked shyly.
Tamaki tilted the young woman's head up by placing his hand under her chin. "Only if you'll feed it to me, darling."
"Oh, wow. You're so dreamy." The girl lightly blushed and giggled dreamily.
"May I have a word with you, Tamaki?" A girl with long, reddish-brown hair placed her teacup down and glanced at the King of the Host Club, who was seated right beside her. "I've recently heard the Host Club is keeping two little kittens without a pedigree."
"I don't know if I'd call them that." Tamaki said, a light, friendly chuckle coming out of his throat. "Speak of the devils." He commented once his gaze turned to the two people who just entered the music room.
Haruhi and Y/n walked further into the music room, avoiding contact with any of the females that were there. Haruhi held a brown, paper bag in her arms.
"Thanks for doing the shopping, little piglets" Tamaki spoke out to the two sisters. "Did you get everything on our list?" He winked, wagging his index finger softly.
"What? Piglets?" Y/n and Haruhi muttered quietly, sweat appearing on both of their foreheads.
The two girls stepped closer to Tamaki, standing behind the couch he was seated on so he could take out and examine the items that Haruhi and Y/n shopped for.
"Hey, wait a minute, what is this?" Tamaki asked as he held a container of instant coffee in his hand.
"Just what it looks like. It's coffee." Haruhi returned.
"I've never seen this brand before. Is this the kind that's already ground?" Tamaki quizzed.
"What do you mean? It's instant coffee." Y/n stated, wired at Tamaki's questions and cluelessness.
"It's instant?" Two girls, who were seated on a red couch across from Tamaki, asked and tilted their head to the side.
"Woah! I've heard of this before. It's commoner's coffee. You just add hot water." Tamaki exclaimed in recognition, looking intensely at the container.
"Bingo." Y/n mumbled with a snap of her fingers.
Some girls were absorbed by the conversation Tamaki and the two Fujioka siblings were having, so a group of them moved closer and stood behind the couch that had the two girls seated on it across from Tamaki.
"I didn't know there was such a thing."
"So it's true then. Poor people don't even have enough free time to grind their own coffee beans."
The group of girls behind the couch nodded with a convinced hum.
"Commoners are pretty smart." Kyoya suddenly appeared behind the couch Haruhi and Y/n were standing behind, along with more girls and the Hitachiin twins.
"One hundred grams for three-hundred yen." Hikaru read off the container.
"That's a lot less than we normally pay." Kaoru claimed.
"We'll go back and get something else. Excuse us for not buying you guys expensive coffee." Haruhi finally said, a hasty tone of irritation in her voice.
Tamaki put his hand that wasn't holding the plastic container of instant coffee up, stopping Haruhi. "No, I'll keep it."

"Huh?" The crowd listening into the conversation seek out slight surprise at Tamaki's response, aside from Haruhi and Y/n.
Tamaki shot up from the couch he was sitting on. "I'm going to give it a try."
The group of people gasped in shock, exempting Kyoya, Y/n, Haruhi, and the girl with reddish-brown hair that was sitting next to Tamaki, sipping her tea from her teacup.
"I will drink this coffee!" Tamaki declared devotedly, holding up the container of instant coffee.
The group around them 'oohed' and applaud Tamaki for his 'courageous' admission.
"All right, Haruhi, Y/n. Get over here and make some of this commoner's coffee." The blond haired male appointed the two girls.
Y/n and Haruhi stood hunched over. 'I hate all these damn rich people.' They both contemplated.
"Oh, Tamaki, now you're taking the joke too far." The girl that was seated next to Tamaki said, placing down her teacup once again. "Your palate won't be able to stomach that crap, you don't have to drink it just because they bought it." She ensured, not realizing that everyone has left and that Haruhi and Y/n were still behind her.
"Huh?"
"I'm sorry. I was talking to myself." The young lady turned her body around to look at Y/n and Haruhi with a fake, closed eyed smile.
"Um..." Haruhi mumbled while Y/n just looked at the girl with slightly narrowed eyebrows.
'I don't like this girl...' She concluded undoubtedly.
"Haruhi! Y/n!" Tamaki called.
"Ugh, we're comin'..." Haruhi muttered. The two sisters involuntarily walked over to where Tamaki and the crowd of people were waiting.
Y/n placed the instant coffee powder in the lined up teacups using a spoon while Haruhi poured the hot water. Haruhi placed them on a serving tray.
"Here." Haruhi said, holding the tray out towards the guests.
"Let the tasting begin." Tamaki announced, a small smile on his face as his chin was hovering over his index finger and thumb. It seemed like roses were surrounding the second year student.
"I'm a little scared to drink this stuff."
"I'm afraid if I drink this, my father will yell at me."
Tamaki gently placed his hand on the side of the girls head and brought her face closer to his, dipping her down. "What if I let you drink it from my mouth?"
"Well, then I would drink it." The girl said fancifully, forgetting the words she spoke about how her father would scold her if he finds out she drank instant coffee. The other girls surrounding them had heart eyes and squealed at the scene playing in front of them.
"This is ridiculous." Haruhi murmured and Y/n nodded in agreement.
"Look, sorry if this sounds rude, but it's just coffee." Y/n informed, but no one heard her because of the squeals coming from the female students in yellow dresses.
Laughing was heard from a small table away from the crowd of fangirls. The table held Hikaru, Kaoru, and two girls that were their customers.
"So he had this nightmare that make him bolt up right out of bed." Hikaru said with a playful smile.
"Hikaru! Don't tell them that story!" Kaoru chided, small tears forming in his eyes. "I asked you not to tell anyone that. Why are you so mean to me?"
Hikaru's laughing stopped and his jokingly smile disappeared as he looked at his twin brother with raised eyebrows. "I'm sorry, Kaoru."
The two girls at that table blushed tenderly and held each other's hands as they watched the scene unfold.

"I didn't mean to upset you, but you were so adorable when it happened, I had to tell them. I'm sorry." Hikaru placed both of his hands on his brothers face, bringing Kaoru's features closer to his own.
"I forgive you." Karou said in a soft, quiet tone.
The girls squealed, their faces were now bright red at the amount of blood that flowed to their cheeks. "I've never seen brotherly love quite like that!"
Haruhi and Y/n passed by their table, holding a tray with teacups and a teapot each, sweat developing on their forehead as they hear the girls squeal.
"What're they so excited about? I don't get it." Haruhi whispered quietly to Y/n.
Y/n hummed. "Yeah, I don't get it either."
Entering the music room now was Mori with Honey on his back.
Honey yawned, attempting to rub the tiredness out of his eyes with one hand while he used his other one to hold onto Mori's shoulder. "Sorry, we're running late."
"Hello, Honey! Hey, Mori!" A girl at their table greeted, watching the two third year students approach the table.
"We've been waiting here for you guys! Hi!" Another girl greeted as Mori placed Honey down on his feet.
"I'm sorry. I was waiting for Takashi to finish his kendo meeting and I fell asleep." Honey said sleepily and sat down on the red, cushioned couch. "And I'm still not completely awake."
The three girls at the table gasp as they look at Honey with adoration.
"So cute!"
"Is that boy really a third year student?" Haruhi asked to no one in particular, implying Honey's child-like behavior.
"I'm honestly still asking myself that question..." Y/n unmasked. The two fraternal twins were standing off to the side, the trays they were previously holding were placed elsewhere.
"Honey-Senpai may seem young and childish, but he's a prodigy." Kyoya justified, appearing next to Y/n. The two sisters looked up at him. "And then Mori-Senpai's allure is his strong and silent disposition."
"Uhhm...", Haruhi and Y/n let out, peering up at Kyoya, distinctly speechless.
"Haru-Chan! Y/n-Chan!"
Y/n suddenly felt something jump on her--more like someone. Her instincts were to grab the person, so that's what she did. "Woah!"
"Hey, Haru-Chan, Y/n-Chan, you want to go have some cake with me?" Honey requested with a gleaming smile on his face, his arms being wrapped around Y/n's neck as she held him.
"Thanks, but I...don't really like cake." Haruhi denied.
Honey looked at Y/n, still in the girls arms. "What about you, Y/n-Chan? Wanna have some cake with me?"
"Um, maybe later?" Y/n suggested awkwardly. She's a first year, high school student at Ouran and was currently holding a third year, high schooler in her arms. She felt that it was a bit weird that this was happening.
Honey smiled and looked back at Haruhi. "Then how would you like to hold my bunny, Usa-Chan?" He asked, untangling one of his arms that were wrapped around Y/n, using that arm to show Haruhi his pink, stuffed bunny.
"I'm not into bunnies..."
"Are you saying you don't like Usa-Chan?" Honey pouted, holding out his pink bunny, tears forming in the corners of his light brown, caramel eyes.
"Haruhi, just hold his bunny." Y/n conveyed, looking at her older sister. "It's cute, don't you think?"
Haruhi looked at the bunny that was in Honey's hand. "I guess he is kind of cute, huh?" A small smile formed on Haruhi's lips as Y/n smiled favorably.
Honey slowly put down his stuffed bunny so it was below his chin. He looked at Haruhi with wide eyes.
Honey handed Usa-Chan to Haruhi. Y/n placed the small third year back down on the floor once he did.
"Take good care of him, okay? Ha-ha-ha!" Honey happily ran back to his table and jumped onto a girls lap and rolled around.
"You'll notice that our club utilizes each man's unique characteristics to cater to the desires of our guests." Kyoya began. "Just so you know, Tamaki is number one around here. He's the king. His request rate is seventy percent."
"What's this world coming to?" Haruhi questioned as she held Usa-Chan against her chest.
"And in order for you both to pay off your eight million yen debt with us, you both will act as the Ouran Host Club's dog until you graduate." Kyoya turned his head to face the two girls and showed them a closed eyed smile. "I'm sorry. I meant our errand boy and errand girl."
Y/n and Haruhi looked up at Kyoya, unnoticeable sweat appearing on their cheeks as they felt intimidated by the look in the young man's eyes.
"You can try to run away if you want to, Haruhi, Y/n, but just so you know, my family employs a private police force of one hundred officers." Kyoya informed.
'Did he just...threaten us?' Y/n thought, an eyebrow slightly twitching.
Kyoya pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose due to them slipping. "By the way, do you have a passport?"
"Huh?" The two girls hunched their backs.
"You're going to have to work hard to pay off that debt, my little nerds." Tamaki spoke up, suddenly emerging from behind the two girls, lightly blowing his breath near both Y/n and Haruhi's ear, making them jump unpleasantly.
Haruhi breathes heavily as she bends over, trying to catch her breath. Y/n's hand was placed on her chest, feeling her fast beating heart at the abrupt presence of Tamaki.
"Please don't do that again." Haruhi said with her hand on the back of her neck.
"You need a makeover or no girl's going to look twice at you." Tamaki notified the short haired female.
"Yeah, well, I'm not trying to get girls to look at me." Haruhi assured, resting her hand back on her side.
"Are you kidding me?" Tamaki took out a red rose and held it in his hand. "That's the most important thing. You have to learn to be a gentleman and please the ladies, like me."
"I just don't think it's all that important."
"Hm?"
"Why should I care about appearances and labels anyway? I mean, all that really matters is what's on the inside, right? I don't understand why you even have a Host Club like this," Haruhi knowledges the blond haired male.
"It's a cruel reality, isn't it? It's not often that God creates a perfect person like moi, beautiful both inside and out." Tamaki endorsed, wrapping his arms around his body.
"Say what?" Haruhi and Y/n muttered, looking at the said male with a weirded out expression.
"I understand how you feel since not everyone is blessed as I am. But you must console yourself. Otherwise, how would you go on living? And think about this, Haruhi. Why do you think they put works of art in museums? Because beauty should be shared with the world! And those born beautiful should promote...," Tamaki continued his lesson as the two sisters drifted off into their own thoughts.
'There's a word to describe people like him.' Haruhi thought.
'Hmm...but what word?' Y/n speculated.
'What is it?'
'Man, why can't I remember that word? Hmm.'
'Uhh. Maybe 'A pain in the neck'?'
'No, there's definitely something that fits him perfectly.'
Tamaki moved forward to the two siblings and leaned down to be at height with them.
Haruhi places her fist on her open palm while Y/n snaps her fingers. "Huh. I got it!"
"Oh, did I strike a chord in both of you-?"
"Obnoxious!" Haruhi and Y/n say at the same time, making Tamaki's eye twitch as he pales.
Tamaki is found crouched down on the floor, his chin being placed on his knees as his back is facing towards Haruhi and Y/n.
Y/n slowly approaches Tamaki and places her hand softly on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Tamaki-Senpai."
Hikaru and Kaoru appear behind Haruhi and place their elbows on top of her head, laughing.
"You're a hero, all right." Hikaru says.
"Uh-huh!" Kaoru nods, equally as amused as his twin brother, Hikaru.
"I'm sorry, Senpai, but your lesson did strike a small chord with me." Haruhi nailed down, deciding to say something to get the male out of his current depressed state.
Tamaki stands up from his crouching position and turns around to face the two sisters and the Hitachiin twins, Y/n backing away from him as he did.
"Really? It did? Let me teach you more, my friend." Tamaki ignited, stretching out his hand as he went back to having his self-confident, overpowered ego.
"Well, he got over that pretty quick." Y/n disclosed and scratched the back of her head.
"Boss?" Kaoru called.
"Call me King!" Tamaki insisted with a smile, his arm still being extended outwards.
"You can teach them all the basics of hosting-"
"-but they're not going to get very far with the ladies if they don't look the part, you know?" Hikaru finished off Kaoru's sentence.
"Y/n could maybe host for some guy students now that we have a girl in our club." Kaoru thought aloud.
'Wait...what?' Y/n thought and flinches when she imagines herself entertaining a group of boys.
"That's not a bad idea." Hikaru admitted, moving in front of Haruhi alongside Kaoru. "But Haruhi's not exactly Host Club material...," Hikaru slides off Haruhi's glasses, "but maybe if we took off his glasses, it'll help."
When Hikaru opened his amber colored eyes, they widened as well as Kaoru's at the display before them.
"Hey! I need those!" Haruhi complained. "I used to have contacts, but I lost them on the first day of school."
Kyoya, Mori, and Honey move closer to hear the conversation and to eyewitnesses Haruhi without her glasses.
A pair of feet rumbles towards Haruhi. Tamaki pushes the twins away to get a better look at the honor student that no longer has their spectacles on.
Tamaki snaps his fingers. "Hikaru! Kaoru!"
"Got it!"
The twins grabbed Haruhi and dragged her out of the room, rushing off through the white, double-doors and entering another room.
"Y/n!" Haruhi called her sister for help before the doors could come to a close.
"Haruhi!" Y/n calls back, but of course, Haruhi didn't answer since she was no where to be seen once the doors closed.
"Kyoya, my hairstylist!" Tamaki ordered, pointing his index finger at the said student, who was already on his flip phone dialing the number. "Mori-Senpai, go to the eye doctor and get him some contact lenses!" He pointed at the tall, silent male, who followed his instructions once they were given to him.
"What about me, Tama-Chan?!" Honey asks with big, hopeful eyes.
"Honey-senpai."
"Yes, sir?"
"You...go have some cake."
"It's just us, Usa-Chan." Honey mumbled cheerlessly as he sat at a table, his stuffed bunny sitting across from him as the boy held a fork in his hand, the cake laying on the plate in front of him was waiting to be devoured by the gloomy third year. "Everyone else said they were too busy."
"W-what is going on?" Y/n stammered, wide eyed at what she just endorsed.
"And as for you, young Y/n. You are going to have a little makeover yourself." Tamaki stated while pointing at her.
"Why? I don't need one!"
"Hm, that may be true, but you still need a uniform." Tamaki informed and unexpectedly pulled out the pale-yellow, unattractive dress that was recognized to be the girls' high school uniform.
"No. I refuse to wear that." Y/n contended earnestly.
"Fine. When Hikaru and Kaoru get back, we'll see what they have." Tamaki simply concluded, placing his chin on his index finger and thumb.
The Hitachiin twins were swiftly kicked out of the changing room by an agitated Haruhi, stumbling forward and catching their balance. The twins looked at each other with thoughtful, yet knowing, looks.
Tamaki snapped his fingers again. "Hikaru! Kaoru! Do you think we have anything for Y/n to wear? Something that will bring her out from the other girls here."

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
