《The Monster With A Soul - Dwayne (Lost Boys)》Chapter Ten

The group heads downstairs, only to find Michael and David in a fight. Michael has cuts all over his face, bleeding. Sam tries to aid him, but is easily pushed to the side.
Christine sees Dwayne across the room as he makes his way towards her. But to her surprise, Dwayne grabs Sam by his arms, holding them behind his back to restrain him.
Christine goes after him, trying to help Sam out of his grasp. Dwayne pushes her a little too hard than he intended, making her fall to the floor. David makes his way to the ground, and Dwayne pushes Sam down on his feet. Dwayne looks at Christine with the utmost look of regret and guilt. He flies out one of the windows, not able to bear the emotional weight of his actions. David picks Sam up off the floor, and shoves him against the wall.
"No!" Michael cries out, attacking David.
Within a matter of seconds, the two of them are up in the air, clawing at each other. Sam gets off the floor and rushes over to the group.
"Mike!" he shouts at him.
Michael is too distracted to hear him. David grabs Michael by the shoulders, shoving him towards their grandfathers collection of antlers hung on the wall. But Michael swiftly reverses them, impaling David. Christine watched the life leave his eyes, his last moment alive. Michael limps into the kitchen, making Star go after him.
The sound of the front door opening startled everyone. Sam and Michael's mom came in, accompanied by Max.
"What happened in here?" she asks, completely shocked. "Where's Michael?
"Mom, get away from him!" Sam shouts at her. She looks confused. "Now, Mom, now! He's the head vampire!"
"What are you going on about?" she asks, sounding concerned. "Sam, are you okay? Maybe you should stop reading those comics, they're getting to your head!"

While Sam's mom is scolding him, Max examines the dead body of David. He takes his arm to feel his pulse: nothing. He gives the corpse a look of sympathy. Max turns back towards everyone, taking his glasses off.
"I'm sorry, Lucy," Max apologizes. "This is all my fault. David and my boys misbehaved. But I told you, boys need a mother."
"Max, what are you talking about?"
"You're the secret David was protecting," Starr realizes.
"Mhm," Max agrees, nodding. He looks over at Sam, who keeps claiming he is the head vampire. "Don't ever invite a vampire into your house, silly boy. It renders you powerless."
"Did you know that?" Sam asks, turning to the brothers.
"Of course," Edgar replies. "Everyone knows that."
"Has everyone gone crazy?" Lucy asks, looking at everyone like they were all insane. "What's the matter with all of you?"
"It was you I was after all along, Lucy," Max tells her. "I knew that if I could get Sam and Michael into the family, there's no way you could say no. It was all going to be so perfect, Lucy. Just like one, big, happy family. Your boys...and my boys."
"Great!" Edgar jokes. "The Blood-Sucking Brady Bunch!"
"But I still want you, Lucy!" Max announces, his eyes going yellow. "I haven't changed my mind about that!"
"I didn't invite you this time, Max," Michael seethes.
Michael charges at Max, only to be carelessly thrown into the upstairs wooden balcony. Star picks up a metal rod, attacking Max. But he wrestles it out of her grip, using it to his advantage when the brothers attempt to kill him. When Sam tries to intervene, Max holds him by the neck, close to him.

"Don't fight, Lucy. It's so much better if you don't fight!"
Max holds his hand out to her, but she does not immediately accept. Sam yells in protest, trying to save his mother. Edgar and Alan hold hands with Christine, preparing for whatever was going to be sent their way. Lucy takes Max's hand, giving in to his plan.
"NO!" Sam screams as Max reaches for her neck with his fangs.
Out of nowhere, Dwayne flew through one of the closed windows, causing shards of glass to fly everywhere. He shields Christine, putting his arm around her and turning her around. A car comes bursting through the wall, sending pieces of wood everywhere. As if it were planned out, a stake goes right into Max's body, knocking him dead to the floor.
Everyone was covered in dust and soot. Michael's grandfather emerges from the vehicle, looking annoyed. Dwayne helps Christine stand up. He pulls her close, holding her. Her head is in his chest, they fit perfectly together. He kisses the top of her head, reassuring her that he was here to stay.
"How did you know to help me?" she asks. "I thought I would never see you again."
"I never left." Dwayne smiled at her. He puts his hand on Christine's cheek, but looks surprised. "You're not cold anymore..."
Christine lifts her hand to his face, feeling it. He was not anymore either. His skin was warm, regular, like a human. They were both normal again. Christine lets out a sigh of relief, hugging him.
"My God," she sighs. "We did it. We're gonna be okay."
"Yeah," he replies, still holding her. "We'll be okay."
They pull back from their hug, kissing each other. They had felt a feeling in what they had not felt in what seemed like a century, relaxation. They were both content where they were, and the feelings they had for each other were enough to last forever.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’
