《The Monster With A Soul - Dwayne (Lost Boys)》Chapter Four

Christine had a lot of time to think, but she was never alone. Dwayne babysat her as the other boys slept in shifts, to make up for the lost time her brothers had cost them. Christine had boiled her fate down to three options:
She tells them where her brothers are and she survives.
They find them and she stays here forever. Which if she did, she would kill herself so she would not have to bear the emotional pain.
She tries to escape, whenever she could find some time alone. Which was near impossible.
Christine was left by herself for a brief moment while Dwayne was checking up on his friends, allowing her a period of time to leave. She digs in her bag that her brothers had packed for their expedition. She took out a wooden stake, keeping it at her side. She throws her bag over her shoulder, examining everything around her. When she knows she is in the clear, she makes a run for it.
The sun was setting, which was not a good sign. It would be a long walk home, but she did not care. She takes her painful boots off and carries them. The dirt road was completely empty. She did not know how to get back to her home, but if she could get to a local bus stop or a telephone, she would be fine.
After what seems like hours of endless walking, Christine finally finds a gas station. There is a telephone booth there. She digs in her bag for spare change, inserting the coins in the slot. She knew she could not call the cops, they would not believe her. Christine remembered her house phone, and called. No answer. Her brothers must have been at Michael's.
Christine walks into the gas station, starving. She grabbed a few snacks up by the counter, quickly checking them out. The cashier looked at her like she was insane. She was still covered in Marko's blood and a weird yellow fluid, which she hoped was not vampire piss. She also held on to the wooden stake in her hand, in case they showed up.

"If I may ask," the cashier starts. "Where have you been?"
"Just exploring," Christine says. He nods, his eyebrows raised. He hands her what she had purchased and her change. "Have a nice day."
"You too," he awkwardly says.
As Christine turns to the door, she hears someone shriek. She jumps, and notices that the cashier is gone. She stealthily looks around for him, wondering what had happened. When she goes behind the cash register, she sees the man, laying down in a puddle of his own blood.
Christine covers her mouth as it opens in shock. She bends down to the man, asking herself how that had happened so quickly. She knew there was only one answer, but she did not want to believe it. She almost escaped, and now it became clear to her that there was no way out.
"Just kill me," she mutters, knowing that they are probably in the room. "Please."
"Why would we do that when we can have all this fun with you?" Paul asks.
"My life has no value to you!" she shouts at them, standing up and facing them. They are standing in front of the cash register. "Why do you want to keep me alive when I won't help you?"
"Christine," David says. "You need to be taught a lesson. You should have just helped us from the start."
She takes a step back from them, her feet slipping and squeaking on the blood-soaked floor. She had come so close.
"Until then," David starts. "You'll be staying with us."
Dwayne and Paul come over to Christine, grabbing her by the arms. They yank her out of the store, and before she knows it, she is right back to where she started. Back in the abandoned hotel, hopeless.

They had shown Christine to one of the few working showers in the hotel, allowing her to get all of Marko's bodily fluids off of her. They loaned her a change of Star's clothes, the girl who Michael had saved earlier.
"Christine," David sings. "I'll be staying with you tonight. Paul and Dwayne are going to the boardwalk to find your brothers."
Little did Christine know that Dwayne was in the room. He was in the lobby doorway, a feeling of guilt in his stomach. He could sense her love for her brothers, knowing she wanted to protect them. But she could not. And they had to pay for Marko's death. Someone had to.
"I'm going to Star's room," she says, wanting to get away from him.
"Not without me," David counters.
She rolls her eyes, knowing that this is how she will have to live out her life. Under the eyes of a group of monsters.
