"Honestly Olivia." Diane Hart scolded her daughter. Reaching out she took her index finger using it to push Livie's gaping jaw shut. Livie hadn't seen her mother in 5 years at least. And never here. In New York. At her doorstep. Livie wasn't even sure that her mom knew where she lived. Apparently, she did.

"Mother, what are you doing here?" Livie tried to process seeing her mother in person after so much time had passed.

"That's how you greet me? You're not going to invite me in?"

Livie pulled her robe tighter around her trying to pull the door shut so her mother couldn't see inside her apartment, "I have company."

Diane raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow. She hadn't changed at least. In a light pink pencil skirt and heels with a matching pink jacket Livie wondered how her mother walked through the streets of the upper east side in such.

"What are you doing here?" Livie asked again.

"I thought it was time I traveled here to see what all the fuss was about. I've tried to contact your brother but haven't been able to reach him."

"Dex works on the boat. You usually have to text him."

"I will do no such thing." Diane finally pushed Livie aside and made her in way into the apartment.

Livie groaned silently.

"Mother give me a moment please." She quickly raced to the bathroom where Chace was coming out.

"My mother is here." Livie hissed.

"Your mom?" Chace's eyes grew huge.

"Yes, please please go to my room till I can get rid of her."

"Ok." Chace looked confused but did as Livie asked.

Livie straightened her robe and returned out to the living room where her mom was probably analyzing and criticizing everything in Livie's apartment.

"Who is the young man?" Diane didn't miss a thing.

"A friend." Livie flushed red.

"A friend who sleeps over?"

"Don't pretend to be a parent now Mother." Livie said coolly.

"Pretend to be a parent? Is that what you think I did."

"I think you don't have any reason to be here."

"You haven't been home in 6 years Olivia. I certainly do believe I have a reason to be here."

"And what is it? You missed me and Dex?" Livie gave a fake laugh.

"Of course I miss you and Dexter." Diane sat down on the edge of the couch.

Livie perched herself on the arm of the recliner waiting for her mom to reveal the real reason she was there.

"Your father is sick Olivia."

Livie frowned, "What's wrong with him?"

"Cancer. He was in remission." She stopped, "They're waiting on additional testing."

"Why did you fly here to tell me this?"

"He has re-written his will." She continued. "He remarried about 4 years ago. You have a half-sister. She's 3."

"I have a what?" Livie slid down onto the recliner.

Diane forced a smile, "Her name is Sofia."

"Wait..." Livie put her fingers to her temples. "Why didn't my father tell me this?"

Diane shrugged, "You and Dexter made it very clear you didn't want to be apart of his life any longer, or mine might I add. Sofia is beneficiary of most of your father's fortune. Of course you and Dexter will have a percentage. You will need to come home however."

"You're speaking as if he's passed already." Livie felt like she was in a dream.

"He hasn't, not yet anyway. Doctors don't foresee it being long. Olivia I don't want him to pass without you and he making amends."

"Why are you doing this for him?" Livie finally asked.

"Not for him. For you. And your brother. You also have a sister now."

"Dad didn't care to ever tell us?"

"I think he wanted to. He was very hurt when Dexter left and then you so shortly after. And you cut us out of your life Olivia."

"Are you remarried? Are there any more brothers or sisters I need to know about?" Livie raised her voice.

"No Olivia." Her mother sighed, "I'm not remarried, and I definitely have not had any other children."

Livie didn't know what to say and her mother continued.

"I'm staying at...." She glanced into her purse and pulled out a paper, "The Mercer. I'll be here till Tuesday. I would like to have dinner with you. And Dexter as well. Olivia contrary to what you believe I have missed you both very much."

Diane stood up and smoothed down her skirt. Livie stood up as well. The Mercer. The same place Chris had stayed. Livie suddenly felt very sick to her stomach. She walked her mother to the door before running to the bathroom and throwing up everything in her stomach.

Chace had offered to go with Livie to have dinner with her mother that night but Livie told him no. This was something she would have to do on her own. After she insisted she was fine and practically forced Chace to go with a promise she would call him later, Livie called Dex. He instantly refused to go to dinner. And she could hear the anger in his voice when she told him about Sofia, their half-sister. Livie would have to go have dinner with her mother alone. In the back of her mind was Chris. She needed to tell him about Chace. Although she was sure that he wouldn't care. He hadn't made one move to call her this week. And while yes she had told him she needed space the pictures of him with Mandy were all the proof she needed that he had moved on. Why else would he be with her? Livie didn't know what would happen with Chace but she couldn't focus on how things had ended with Chris. The first man she had allowed herself to fall in love with and look what happened. She wanted to speak with him and end it officially. Maybe even pretend like it hadn't even happened.

Dinner with Diane was insufferable. And all Livie could manage to focus on was the table where she and Chris had had dinner when they first started seeing each other. After an awkward, practically silent (at least on Livie's end) dinner Livie walked her mom to the elevator. Her stomach lurched as she thought about spending the whole evening with Chris in his hotel room that night after Cooney Island.

"I've got to go Mum." Livie said suddenly. "I'll see you before you leave." She turned and ran out of the Mercer. Hailing a cab out of the city she stopped at the car rental place she had used before and within an hour was on her way to Boston.

She knocked on Chris's door. It was almost midnight by the time she had arrived and she had gotten turned around very easily, finally finding her way to his street.

The lights flipped on throughout the house and Chris hesitantly pulled the door open.

"Livie?" He rubbed his eyes. "You're here?" He brought his hand to her cheek brushing it softly with his knuckles. "Come in."

Livie shook her head. "I saw the pictures Chris. I saw you with Mandy."

"What pictures?" He was still half asleep and rubbed his eyes again.

"Of you hugging her the other day. I don't know why you couldn't have just been honest with me." The tears were slowly filling her eyes.

"No." Chris shook his head, "Her dad died Liv. I was at the funeral; my whole family was. That's all it was. I haven't spoke to her since besides a text message making sure she was ok."

"What?" Livie knew what she had saw in the pictures. It didn't look like a funeral. He was leaving her house. "You were at her house."

"That was where they had a get together after the funeral. I promise you whatever you think you saw you didn't. Now please come in." He held his hand out for her.

"Oh gosh." Livie felt the bile rise in her throat for the 3rd time that day. "So nothing happened with you and Mandy?"

"No, never. I wouldn't do that to you. I mean I know you said you needed space but I love you. I couldn't even fathom being with someone else."

The tears that had formed in her eyes were now streaming down her face.

"Liv, what's wrong?" Chris took a step towards her, "It's ok. I promise you."

Livie shook her head, "I-I I slept with Chace last night." She forced the words out of her mouth.

"What?" Chris was sure he couldn't have possibly heard her correct.

"I thought you...and I was hurt." She tried to form a sentence together.

He was quiet for a moment before slamming his hand into the door causing Livie to jump. "You need to leave. Now." The venom in his voice stung Livie as she shook from the tears.

"Chris-" She pleaded.

"Get off my porch. NOW!" He shouted pushing the door shut before she could get another word out. She stood on the porch for a moment hoping he would come back but all the lights went out including the one on the porch and Livie slowly walked back to her car.
