《Chasing the nerd ✓》Chapter 16|Rachel

"So you wanna grab a bite to eat first?" he asked me looking really uncomfortable.
I chuckled a little, mostly to myself. I love how nervous he is.
"I'll settle for just the candy. See, I have a very specific diet and I'm allowed only one free day for candies and stuff. I do not have a plastic surgeon, despite what you think."
He scoffed a bit.
"Yeah, right. Just a diet. That can give you a body like this." he said annoyed nodding in my direction.
A mischievous grin formed in my face.
"Ah, so you have noticed." I said raising my eyebrow.
He shifted a bit in his place.
"Well, yeah. I have eyes you know." he said without sparing a glance at me but I could see he was smiling, a small smile, but still.
I turned my gaze to the front and said nothing until he parked in the parking lot near the movie theater.
We got out and started walking next to each other in silence. I felt nervous and giddy at the same time. He had me all riled up but I didn't know how to proceed not to screw this up as he is a proven flight risk. The smallest things can set him off and this thing could blow up quicker than an atomic bomb.
We reached the box office and were about to get our tickets.
"Do I dare make a move?" I said reaching for my wallet.
" Do it and I'll bite your hand off." he said with a deadpan expression. I dropped my hand right away.
"Fine! But i'm paying for the candy and popcorn."
He chuckled while giving the cashier cash for our tickets.
"No, you're not." he said giving my ticket looking playful.
I got lost for a minute in his green eyes. They were sparking with humour and I felt like the whole word was smiling at me.
"What? Your manhood will be bruised if a girl buys popcorn for you?" i teased him.
"Tell you what. If you are still here after the movie and not running for the hills out of boredom, I'll let you buy me ice cream."
"Challenge accepted." I said grinning and he chuckled again.
After buying lots of candies and drinks we settled in our seats. There weren't a lot of people in the room but still more than I wanted.
Our arms were almost touching and I could feel his warmth sending small tingles down my spine.
The movie started right away and I turned my focus to the screen silently prayed not to be bored.

"Who is he?" I whispered pointing to the guy at the screen teaching a girl how to shoot an arrow. He smiled and looked at me.
"Two seconds in and you have questions already? That's Hawkeye. He is in the Avengers." he whispered back leaning a bit closer to me not to disturb others. Having him so close to me not being able to touch him is killing me. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves, taking a sip from my drink I nodded to him as if I understand. Honestly right now I couldn't care less about the movie, but I concentrated my focus onto the screen anyway.
As the movie progressed i caught on pretty quickly even though the voids in the story didn't let me have a clearer image about certain things but anyway.
When I saw Scarlett Johansson after the "five years later" caption I scoffed loudly.
"What?" he said with a mouth full of popcorn and looked at me confused. Oh, God he is so cute I want to kiss him real bad.
"So what? Her hair grow naturally at that red color? Please." i said crossing my arms in front of me and he chuckled softly.
"From what you saw the last half hour that what has you wondering? Black widow is supposed to be a redhead." he whispered smiling.
"No redhead has a color like that. I mean I get that is a science fiction movie but some things should reflect reality." I answered him and he looked at me with a crooked smile in his face.
"You are something else." he said smiling and I felt my cheeks boiling as my blood was raising to my face making me all crimson. I bowed my head a little because I didn't want him to see my blush, even though the room is pretty dark I'm not taking any chances.
We watched the rest of the movie in silence and after a time I really got hooked. It was nice after all and by the end with Iron man's funeral I caught myself sniffling mostly because I felt so very sorry for his little girl. Without even thinking about it i leaned in him resting my head in his shoulder. He stiffed for a moment but I felt him relax after a second.
I breathed in his scent, a mixture of woody tones along with spices, made me calmer and excited at the same time, and even though the music in the room was really loud the only thing I could hear were the beats of my heart.

The effect he has on me is unbelievable and i haven't even kissed him yet. I mean, what will happen then? Lose my mind all together?
When the lights turned on I moved away carefully swiping my eyes not smear mascara all over.
He looked at me a bit surprised.
"Are you crying?" he said smiling.
"Well, it was moving." I said and sniffled "You don't have to look so happy about it." I said after I heard him laugh a bit.
"I'm not happy about that. I'm just pleasantly surprised." he said and stood up grabbing the empty containers of our snacks.
"Surprised? About what?" I said curious as I stood up as well.
"You liked the movie?" he said looking directly in my eyes. I forgot how to speak for a moment as I couldn't stop looking at his green eyes. It's the first time since I met him that his eyes are looking like that, so green and sparkling, like the waters of an exotic lake.
"I did." I said feeling my mouth awfully dry.
"That. I'm surprised about that. I thought you will be long gone by now. You never meet the expectations i have of you. You, somehow, always prove me wrong."
"Yes, thank you!! I'm trying to tell you that since the moment I met you. I'm not what it looks like!" I said feeling justified for once! "So I guess ice scream is on me?"
He laughed for a bit but shaked his head nodding.
"A deal is a deal." he said and opened the door of the movie theater waving for me to pass. I melted a bit inside. I love a man with proper manners.
It was a little chilly out at this late hour but it was beautiful with all the lights on in the boardwalk and the sound of the light waves from the beach just a few feet further from us.
We walked side by side and there were a few touches of our arms as we went.
"So you were sad that Iron man died?" he said smiling peeking a glance at me from the corners of his glasses.
I crossed my arms in front of me to warm myself up a bit. Why didn't I bring a jacket with me?
"Yeah, but mostly I felt so sorry for his little girl. It's a pity that she has to grow up without her dad, you know?"
"Actually, yes, I do know." he said nodding all serious all of a sudden and I looked at him frowning. "I lost my dad when I was her age, give or take." he continued and I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me at once.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know. I didn't mean to upset you." I said all apologetic. Me and my mouth, God!
I don't know if it's the breeze or that my blood run cold the moment I said that stupid thing but I started shivering uncontrollably.
"That's ok. Don't worry about it. Are you cold?" he said as he looked at me.
Gee, why do you say that? because i'm turning blue i thought to myself ironically regretting once again that i forgot my jacket.
I settled for a small nod as I know that if I talk now i will stutter.
He stops right away and stands directly in front of me giving me his shirt. I shake my head lightly.
"That-That's ok. I-I'll manage." I said forcing a smile on my face.
"God, woman. Just wear the damn shirt." he said smiling playfully as he placed the shirt behind my shoulders forcing me to put my hands in the sleeves. He was smiling widely causing me to smile as well feeling my cheeks burning under his intense gaze. When I had the shirt on his hands lingered a bit in the collar pulling it up high.
"Better?" he said without removing his hands. I raised my eyes and saw him so close I could hardly breathe.
"Yes, thank you." I said literally out of breath and unwillingly my body moved towards him, almost touching. I could see that his eyes have darkened as he was looking at me all serious. His fingers brushed my neck and i felt tingles all over my body. I took a sharp breath and closed my eyes leaning my head to his touch and I felt his hand cupping my face from each side. I looked at him and I could see the longing in his eyes as he leaned in. My heart was beating like crazy and I thought it will jump out of my chest as I waited to feel his lips on me.
"Rachel! What the fuck are you doing?" i heard a vaguely familiar voice and i opened my eyes to look at the person who spoke.
Oh, for fuck's sake!

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

Soul's Curtain
The mortal land bordered by two worlds, one of immortals and the other of ceaselessness. As Illias Finn remains bound within the cell of an abandoned prison the curtain calls its chosen to descend into it's embrace. To be honest I will just write and upload whenever i feel like it, but if i find it getting relative success I can try write a bit more. This will just be a write, read then upload kind of thing for me while i try to flesh out more worldbuilding. I'm pretty novice when it comes to writing just a few years of secondary english under my belt but hardly any of that's creative. NGL, a lot of this world building is inspired by Tower of God or other fiction i have read, especially the tower-like setting.
