《Brother of Wind {book 4: The Tournament of Elements}》chapter 5

Zane walked forwards. He didn't know where he was walking to, his only goal is to walk through this snow storm. Taking a few more steps, the ground under Zane broke and he fell down into a cave. Ice sprawled across the ground and walls. Zane reattached his arm which had called off. The nindroid heard a growl. In the dark, an icy blue glowing dragon was chained up and coming for Zane.
He looked for an exit, but the only one Zane found was the hole he fell through.
"Zane! Were you still there?"
Zane looked up at the call of his name. A raven black falcon was perched at the top of the cave.
"If you can hear me, wake up!"
Zane heard a female's voice.
"You need to wake up!"
"Ah!..." Zane opened his eyes. He was dreaming.
"It was only a dream." He stated.
"It's amazing you dream. I've always wondered what it's like. You've always been special." Zane heard the female voice again from a window high up to Zane's right.
"Where am I? Who are you?" Zane said looking around the dark room he was in.
"I'm Pixal, a friend." She replied.
"And you're in danger and have to get out of here." Pixal said.
"Your memory drive is out of sorts and your Elemental Power--"
"Elemental Power?" Zane asked.
"You're a Nindroid, Zane, a Ninja. And your friends are here to save you. But they can't do it all. You have to remember who you are." Pixal replied.
"Friends...?" Zane asked as he struggled from chains around his wrists.
"Remember, Zane. You saved your friends and then rebuilt yourself." Pixal reminded.
"There are things about you that you don't understand. That you have yet to discover. But if we're ever going to get out of here, you have to remember." Her voice pleaded.
"Pixal... We are... Compatible?" Zane smiled.
"Yes, Zane. Yes, we are." She replied.
. . .
"Sure, Jay's cute and funny, and I'm always laughing around him, but everything's about him, and he never takes me seriously." Nya said from under a bunch if parts, ranting to Sensei Wu.
"More light please."
Wu woke up after tiring from Nya's rant.
"Right. He never takes you seriously." Wu said shining a flash light to where Nya was working.
"Then there's Cole. He's handsome, and I suppose I connect with him on a deeper level, but everything's so serious with him, you know what I mean? Socket wrench." Nya held up her hand.
"Young emotions are...complicated." Wu said as he handed Nya a tool.
"Sensei, these are needle-nose pliers. I asked for a socket wrench. And could you at least try to impart some wisdom?" Nya asked.
"No way. I'm not sticking my finger into that beehive." Wu said as a woman approached.
"Misako, any word?" Wu asked.
"Nothing. It's been days and still no word from Garmadon or the Ninja. I'm worried." Misako said.
"As am I. It's time we broaden our search." Wu said.
"Well, then it's a good thing I made a mobile base in case the Destiny's Bounty was ever out of commission. I call it the D.B. Express! Mm, not married to the name." Nya said walking over to a red vehicle.

"Find my family, Nya." Misako said.
"I'm on my way." Nya jumped in and drove away.
"Wherever they are, at least my brother is there to guide them." Wu said.
"This is my husband we're talking about. And your son. And that's what worries me." Misako said.
. . .
Morning came and everyone was in the dining hall receiving food. Immediately, Garmadon was denied food.
"There's a valuable lesson here, son." Garmadon turned to Lloyd.
"If you turn your back on your first evil Sensei in an effort to go straight, you may not be served creamy biscuits."
"Well, I know what we are being served. A whole bunch of baloney." Lloyd turned away to sit down.
"This isn't a fighting tournament. It's an alibi for Chen to steal everyone's powers. But we still don't know why." He met up with the other ninja.
"Isn't it obvious? Chen wants to destroy New Ninjago City. I don't know what it is, but that place has had a string of bad luck." Kai said.
"I'm not so sure. From what Sensei G's told us about him, I have a feeling it's something far more sinister." Cole said.
"I'm with Cole on this one. Chen would want to conquer Ninjago, but there must be something more to it. I mean, we're talking about Chen." Morro said.
"And may I remind us, we still don't know where Zane is, which is why we all need to take care of our first rounds to give us more time." Jay said.
Cole looked at Jay. The blue ninja was in a blue bath robe, not his ninja gi. Cole had his mouth wide open.
"Don't look at me. I've already moved on." Jay said.
"Your opponent got himself kicked out." Cole stated.
"Hehe, either way, it's my day off." Jay turned to the server.
"Extra creamy biscuits. And don't skimp." Jay said as biscuits pilled on his tray.
"Taking a day off? And here I thought Ninja never quit." Cole scoffed.
"And I used to think a Ninja wouldn't steal your girlfriend." Jay shot back.
"Oh my gosh, can you please leave the stupid love triangle behind?" Morro pleaded.
"Whatever you have to say to each other, say it now, because harboring grudges hurts no one but yourselves." Garmadon said.
"He's right. You should be preparing to fight your next opponent, not each other." Lloyd said.
"What grudge? I already dropped it." Cole said.
"I dropped it first." Jay said.
"Did not." Cole nudged Jay.
"Did too."
They continued arguing, with Jay dropping his biscuits and drink. The two ninja were cutting with words.
"The tournament will test them, Lloyd. Either find a way for them to make peace, or neither of them will move on." Garmadon said.
A gong sounded off and the PA spoke.
"The tournament of Elements continues. Fun time!" Chen announced.
"Would the following Masters please make their way to their assigned arena? Speed, Gravity, Smoke, Nature, Mind, oh, and last and hopefully not least..."
"Huh, maybe we all got the day off." Jay said.
"Fiyaaaaaaaa!!!" Chen exclaimed
Kai gasped and immediately looked at Skylor who had a worried look on her face.
"Remember, only one can remain."

. . .
Taiko drums were played as everyone gathered for the first one-on-one fight. The arena was a sakura tree just by the edge of a cliff. A jadeblade was high in the branches.
The second match was in a zen garden. With raked stones in a circle pattern and a large boulder with a jadeblade stiking out.
The third match was above a volcano. A single wooden bridge loomed above the magma with a few stone pillars below. The jadeblade lie in the middle of the bridge.
"Turner, Master of Speed, versus Gravis, Master of Gravity. Fight!" Chen announced. The two masters started making their way into the branches of the tree to reach the jadeblade. Gravis reversed the gravity on himself to fly up high as Turner ran up.
"Neuro, Master of Mind, versus Bolobo, Master of Nature. Fight!" Chen yelled. Neuro placed his hands on his head and closed his eyes. Nothing happened at first.
"They call this a fight?" Lloyd scoffed.
"Wait for it." Garmadon told his son.
Neuro saw a few seconds ahead and predicted his opponent's attack: vines sprouting from under. The master of mind quickly jumped up and used the vines to get near the jadeblade.
Bolobo slammed his staff into the ground and a vinde carried him up.
"Kai, Master of Fire, versus Ash, Master of Smoke. Fight!"
Kai pulled to his mask and ran forwards. Ash swung around the bridge and made but shake, dropping the jadeblade onto a stone pillar below. Kai was dangling on the bottom of the bridge as Ash started to run at him.
"Come on, Kai, you can do it." Lloyd cheered.
Kai bursted through the bridge and trued to kick, but Ash phased right through Kai's attack. A ballad of smoke was thrown at Kai, which was deflected away quickly. Kai tried another kick, but was unsuccessful.
Ash's smoke kept from Kai being able to attack, but be hit instead. A puche threw Kai back, breaking the boards of the bridge. Kai grabbed onto the last board he found and dangled beofe the lava. Everyone cheered except for the ninja, and Skylor, who watched the battle at the edge of her seat.
Bolobo jumped at Neuro and wrapped his vines around his waist. Neuro was, however, able to just escape and send disturbing made waves, knocking Bolobo down to the stones of the zen garden.
"Never under estimate the power of the mind." Garmadon explained to the ninja.
Neuro jumped down the deliver a finishing blow to his opponent's head but, Bolobo managed to get away and restrain Neuro.
"I didn't see that coming." He said regretfully.
"In man versus nature, nature usually wins." Lloyd said.
"But there can be some exceptions. Don't bet on it, Lloyd." Morro said.
Turner sped around the tree branches, occasionally taunting Gravis. The master of gravity flew through the tree and got kicked by Turner who immediately vanished into the sakura blossoms after the attack. Using a tree branch, Gravis hit Turner back.
"What? Can't keep up?" Turner taunted.
"I'm over here. Can't catch me."
Gravis levitated the fallen sakura blossoms.
"This doesn't look good." Turner said.
Gravis made all the blossoms fly fast, right into and all over Turner.
Smoke was thrown and the boards on the bridge that Kai was using to stay on kept breaking. The lava down below bubbled and almost hit Kai. Skylor covered her eyes. Kai jumped up back to the bridge.
"Ninja-go!!" He yelled. A bright orange and red tornado appeared and advanced on Kai.
"Come on Kai. Use your power!" Lloyd bit his lip.
"Ha! Fire!" Kai threw fire balls at Ash. They all missed of course, but the fire caught onto the bridge.
Neuro was struggling to break free of Blolobo's vines. The master if nature raised more vines up to grab the jadeblade when Neuro sent wave links to distract Blolobo from his focus. Using his chance, Neuro ran up and grabbed the jadeblade.
"Yeah!" He exclaimed.
"Winner! Loser!!" Chen exclaimed, pushing the button and Bolobo fell down a trapdoor.
"Master of mind moves on." Neuro's card moved up on the board.
Turner ran away from the flower attack and Gravis saw the jadeblade stuck between two branches. Laughing, he levitates the blade to him, but Tuner intercepted and grabbers it first.
"Yea-heah!!!" Turner shouted.
"Winner! Loser." Chen pressed another button. A trapdoor opened, but Gravis was still in the air. Another bottom press later, and a sand bag was dropped and Gravis fell into the trapdoor.
"Woah! How many buttons does that man have?" Turner exclaimed.
"Master of speed, move on."
Kai threw two large fire balls and lit the end of the bridge on fire. Clouse raised his hand with purple light emitting.
"Ah! No magic!" Chen stopped Clouse.
"I'm enjoying this."
Ash grabbed Kai in a headlock but Kai finally got the bridge to break and the two fighters landed on the stone pillars. Kai and Ash jumped up, fighting in the air, getting hit by each other onto different pillars. Soon, they went into a grab. They were at each other's faces, pushing against each other.
Ash disintegrated into smoke and flew back. Kai had an idea. He jumped up and thew fire, making Ash disintegrate. Kai used the same move the did to get the sword of fire and flipped over the jadeblade, grabbing the handle. He landed on a pillar, holding the blade high.
"Winner!" Chen exclaimed.
The ninja were relived and cheered very loudly with the rest of the crowd and Skylor.
"Loser." Chen said. Ash held his head low.
"Master of fire moves on." Chen said as Ash dropped down a trapdoor.
. . .
Kabukis danced around the room as Chen clapped like a child.
"Master, it was the Ninja who snuck into our ceremony, yet we allow them to move forward. I beg you, let me use my sorcery and put an end to this." Clouse said.
"We'll use your Magic in time, but not now. Not when there are other ways to whittle them down. Perhaps it's time to switch things up." Chen laughed.
Everyone was gathered around the bracket. The ninja walked down the stairs to get informed.
"What's all the commotion?" Jay asked. The ninja moved towards the board and gasped.
"No, he can't do this." Cole exclaimed.
"He already did." Lloyd said with despair.
Jay and Cole stared at the bracket. Their faces were lined up.
"He gotta fight each other!" Cole exclaimed.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
