《Champagne》Prologue

"So. . . what does petit rêve mean?" A small girl asks.
......
"Petit rêve?" Mr. L's voice responds after a moment. "Well, I'm glad you asked. It means... little dream."
......
There was darkness, and in that darkness, small balls of light all around, creating beautiful constellations and patterns, each with their own story. Their own solar system, planets, galaxies.
A masked man in green stood in this distant place, surrounded by stars. There was a large, run-down spaceship not far from him. Stars and galaxies surrounded him, shining down on the pair. He was alone, with no one but this small child in front of him.
"So, you gonna tell me the story?" The young girl asked. She appeared about eight years old. Human looking. She wore Mr. L's hat over her little head, long black hair falling over her face, brushing across her twinkling grey eyes, matching the stars which surrounded her.
"Huh?" He asked, zoning out, distracted by the stars.
"The story. Your petit rêve. You gonna explain anything, or is that it?"
"Oh, right! Right!" He chuckles. "Have a seat!"
She eagerly sits in front of him and folds her arms into her lap, smiling. The two appear to be on a small, dark hill, darkness and stars surrounding them. It was quiet and it was peaceful. There was no one else as far as the eye could see.
Just them.
They were all surrounded by the beautiful atmosphere of space. 'Standing on the Sky,' As Mr. L liked to put it.
"Okay... this is the story of... people. Of love, hardships...of life." Mr. L starts, smiling at the young one. "Once upon of time... in a far-off land which I called home, there were two people in love. Their names are Blumiere and Timpani. Say their names, so they don't disappear!"

"Blumiere and Timpani," The girl repeats with a smile.
"Very good," He tells her. "Now, there are a few other names I want you to know. The heroes Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser. No need to repeat these, since these aren't very fundamental to this story." Mr. L laughs. "Although, those names may briefly reappear once or twice."
"Okay..." She mutters.
"And then, there's team Bleck. Nastasia, Mimi, and O'Chunks."
"And Dimentio!" She adds. "We can't forget about Dimentio."
"Ah, yes. Dimentio. Well, don't worry. I haven't forgotten about him."
The girl smiles, as Mr. L leans forward. "Now, there's no way to accurately pinpoint where this story starts. Since the beginning is never quite clear. So... I'm going to begin at the end of another story."
"The end? Wait wait wait, so your story begins at the end of another?" She asks.
"No. My story began long before this one. But, THIS story begins at the end of another. Don't think of it as an end... think of it as another chapter being added. There's always chapters being added, so in a way, our stories never do really end."
"What about when you die? Would your story end then?" She asks, causing Mr. L to smile and shake his head. "No... believe me, I know that death is never truly the end. And when I do die, you'll still be out there. And therefore, my story will continue. Now, do you want me to start the tale?" He asks.
She eagerly nods, a smile on her face.
"Well, then let's get started, shall we? Here's the story of my petit rêve."

Carus - Libertas
participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge and also having a go at NaNoWriMo this November. This was a first draft published as it was written for Nanowrimo November 2020. A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.

Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
