《Mermaid Origins》Hey Brother

A cry of fear pierced the quietness of my dream. My eyes snapped open. I looked around frantically, looking for the source of the scream. Lucas was gone, leaving me on a blanket. Frantic footsteps and Michael's orders rang above me. Everything rocked harshly, making me realize waves must be hitting the ship.
I don't know if I can help. I was in the water when I helped them last time, I thought. Determination rose up with in me. But I have to try. I try to focus on the water, but everything swaying was making it hard. I was thrown to the right side of the ship, as a partially harsh wave hit.
I slammed into the wall, rolling out of the way of a barrel that was going to land on me. Another wave slammed into the ship, sending me to the other side of the room. Another scream rang out. "Bryan!" Someone shouted. I could hear a faint splash. "What are you doing!?" David's voice rang out.
Footsteps bounded closer. The door flung open, revealing Lucas. "Bryan fell off the ship!" He picked me up, running back the way he came. "I know you're injured, but save him please!" He was soaked, but the tears rolling down his face were noticeably. "He's like a little brother to me! I can't loses him!" He cried as he ran up a set of stairs. "Don't worry. I will get him." I promised him.
Lucas smashed though a door, revealing the desk. David and Pat were fighting with the wind over the sail. Michael was at the steering wheel, controlling the ship with difficulty. Rain was falling, stinking harshly as it hit my skin. That's was all I could take in, before Lucas ran over to the edge of the ship. He kisses my cheek, before he dropped me.

I plunged into my old home, slightly disoriented. I shook myself out of my shock, looking frantically for Bryan. I see him, struggling to swim up to the surface. I swam to him, using the water around me to help me go faster.
I grabbed him by the arms, making a mad dash to the surface. I glanced down at him, noticing he was passing out. I growled softly. Using my power, I threw him out of the water and on to the ship. I was also going to throw myself, until I noticed a figure controlling the waves around us.
I need to stop whoever this is. They're not allowed to do this, I thought. I swam full speed into them. I tackled him to the floor, glaring angrily at them. I couldn't see their face, because they had a cloak on. "Brandon...?" The person said. I recognized his voice. I got off him and swam away.
"Brandon! Wait!" He screamed after me. I stopped just short fo the ship, just to make the waves stop. He grabbed my arm. "Dad has been so worry! Why did you run away!? Why are you so close to a human ship!? You know dad forbids interacting with humans!" He lectured. I ripped my arm away from him. "I don't care! Just leave me alone!" I yell.
Before he could do anything, I launched myself out of the water. I landed roughly on the deck. Everyone glanced at me. Bryan was slightly coughing, but looked for the most part ok. Lucas walked over to me and hugged me. "Thank you so much." He whispered in my ear. I hugged back happily.
We stay like that until I heard a splash. I growled quietly, before I gently pushed Lucas away from me. I turned to my brother, pushing Lucas behind me. "Brandon please. You need to come home. You're th-" I cut him off. "The next king! I know! But I don't want to be king! Why can't you be king? You're older then me." I turn away from him. "You know why I can't. Everyone misses you, you know." He says softly. "Dad regrets being so hard on you. Jakey and Mitch haven't stopped crying since they found out you were gone. Mario been trying to cheer them up, but he's too worried about you." Tears were rolling down my cheeks, when I think about Jakey. Lucas hugs me when he see that I'm crying.

I wipe my tears, facing him. "I'm happy where I am. I like it here." I say. "With humans?! You're coming home. Now." He grabs my arm, trying to throw me off the ship. Lucas was still hugging me. "You're not taking Brandon away from us!" Lucas yanks me away from my brother, putting him arms around me protectively.
Michael snuck behind my brother and tackled him. Michael ripped of the cloak that was concealing him. Ritchie screeched, wiggling underneath Michael. "Let go of me!" Ritchie yelled. Michael stared him in shock. "I-it's you.." Michael murmured. Ritchie stopped in confusion. "What?" He looked over his shoulder to look at Michael. His eyes widened. "Streak?" Ritchie asked. Michael nodded. "Nice to see you too Scales." Micheal let go of Ritchie and hugged him. "Where did you go? I missed you." Michael asked. Ritchie looked down. "Father said I couldn't see you anymore. I still sometimes think about you." Ritchie admitted.
Michael smiled. "I haven't stopped thinking about you since you left me." Michael quietly chuckled. "What?" Ritchie asked. "From talking to your brother, I realized we never gave each other our real names. My real name is Michael." Michael held out his hand. Ritchie look hesitant. I gave him a look. "My real name is Ritchie." He said as he takes Michael's hand. Michael pulled Ritchie into his chest and kissed him.
Ritchie looked surprised, before melting into the kiss. Smirking, I turned to Lucas, who was distracted by Michael and Ritchie. I reached up, making Lucas look at me. He looked at me confused. I connected our lips. Lucas was surprised at first, but kissed back passionately. We stayed like this, until we heard a cracking.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
