《Mianite- The Alternate Heroes' Journey》Mot: Meeting My Alternate

I walked around Urulu in awe. While Ruxomar looked completely different from how I remembered it, Urulu looked almost the same. I was able to navigate through it easily and find my old home. The only clear difference was how dreary this town looked. Before, it had been an extremely busy and happy place to live, with newly built buildings and smiling faces everywhere you looked. There were no harsh leaders, and the culture of the town revolved around nature and books. Now, it looked dull and empty. The few people on the streets looked sad or worried, and none of them even glanced in my direction.
I entered my home, closely followed by Sparklez and Dianite. I had the feeling that nobody else could sense when Spirit Dianite was around. I suppose they weren't as used to being followed by a dead god as I was. Funny how it was always Dianite.
"Wow," Sparklez remarked with a small laugh. "You knew exactly where to go to find your house."
I grinned as I glanced around the place. "Yeah, I lived here for a long time. My memory of it is as good as ever." I stopped smiling when I saw him digging through some of my chests.
"Oh, these are the flower crowns. Similar to the one you're wearing." He took one out and tried it on. "I remember visiting this place!"
I gasped. "You... you have?" What had he been doing here?
Sparklez turned and walked up the stairs. "Yeah, we all came here a while back."
I followed him, furious and scared of what he might have seen. "But... but... I have personal stuff here! Don't tell me you found my journals!" In response, he strode right over to where I kept my diary, with all of my deepest secrets in it, and took it from the chest.
I snatched it from him. "Don't tell me you read this!" His face turned slightly pale as he began to stutter.

"It was read to the entire group," Dianite answered for him.
My face grew redder. "And you heard it too? Oh no." I covered my head with my hands, wanting to sink into the floor and vanish.
"Yes, I did. And I must say, I found it quite touching." His voice was soft with understanding. I didn't know what to think. I couldn't bear to be around Dianite anymore. I wasn't sure how he could bear to be around me.
Sparklez had left to do something, and I was fine being by myself. I needed a while to take things in. I wanted to find out if this place was safe or not, but I was in no rush. Ianite had said a year or so.
"Hey, Mot, would you like to meet your alternate?" Dianite spoke up. I had known he was there, but the voice still made me jump.
"Er... sure. Where does he live?" I wasn't sure if I was ready to deal with another version of myself. Sure, I could kick his butt normally, but all I had currently was a diamond sword.
"Far away from everyone else. He has his own little... town, you could say. Although I suppose you'll be needing this." A black hammer fell from the sky and slammed into the dirt beside me.
"What's this?" I pulled it from the ground. It was slightly heavy, but I could still use it. It would certainly do a lot of damage.
"Made it for you just now," Dianite announced, sounding quite proud of himself. "Named it and everything. Figured you'd be needing it if you were going to hang around here. That diamond sword of yours won't last you long."
It was named? I turned it over and read the words engraved into the handle. "Mot's... passion... piston?"
He chuckled. "Like it? Now, come on. We don't have all day. I'll teleport you to his house, if you like. It would be a lot easier."

"I guess so." Everything went black all of a sudden, and I felt a slight falling sensation. When my vision returned, I was in front of a large stone wall and an iron gate.
"Just press the lever on the side," Dianite sighed. "The boy wanted to have a fancy entrance. Don't be intimidated by it."
I rolled my eyes. "I wasn't intimidated by it. I was trying to think of ways to break it down. Although flipping a lever is much easier. And less destructive, if you care about that." I walked over to a small indent in the wall and activated the switch. The gate disappeared in a swirl of light.
"Destructive isn't good, Mot. Especially not here. Remember, don't kill him. No matter what. I'll make sure he brings no harm to you. That hammer was just, you know, in case. He's like a child."
I reluctantly put the weapon away and called out. "Er... Tom? My alternate? Are you around here?"
"Who's there?" I heard someone with a slightly deeper voice yell back. A door opened, and a zombie in a suit walked out. He stopped in his tracks when he saw me. "M... Mot?"
"Hi." I observed the tree he lived in and found myself unimpressed. "So this is where you live?"
"Yep. I just got upgrades on my tree," he said, smiling proudly. "Although I'm guessing you don't like them."
I shrugged half-heartedly. "It's an interesting place, to say the least. It's nice to see what you've done with my world, I guess."
He frowned and took out a small white blade, absentmindedly moving it back and forth in his hands. "Technically, it's my world now."
Deciding to ignore what Dianite had said, I took out my hammer. "We'll see about that."
Tom's mouth dropped open when he saw what I was holding. The god was right, my alternate really was no different than a child. "What is that? It's a nice-looking hammer!" He tried to swing at me with his blade, but I jumped out of the way before it could hit me.
"It's a reward," I teased, holding it up for him to see properly. "Care to see it in action?" Before he could reply, I swung it at him in hopes that it would kill him instantly. To my disappointment, he was still alive once the damage had been dealt.
Although he was clearly hurt a lot by the attack, he merely shrugged. "Meh. It's not that good."
"Oh, really?" Screw what Dianite had said. My alternate was challenging me. I swung once more, and he let out a scream before turning to dust.
"MOT!" Dianite yelled from beside me.
"What?" I snapped back, gesturing to where Tom's grave stood. "He challenged me!"
The god let out a small sigh. "You really haven't changed, have you?"
I felt a small smile appearing on my face. "I guess not."
Dianite cleared his throat as a livid Tom stomped out of his house to collect his items. "Mot, perhaps I should take you to meet some other alternates. Other Alyssa and Jeriah are in the area."
I wrinkled my nose slightly. "I'd love to meet other Alyssa, but..."
"You have to at least give him a try," Dianite attempted to persuade me. "I promise you that he is much more respectable than the filth that is currently raising your daughter."
I sighed. "Alright, fine." I turned and smiled at Tom. "See you around, then, you piece of poop."
"You messed with the wrong guy," the zombie answered in a threatening voice, although I saw a small grin on his face as well.

It's a little rough around the edges, a little crude. I started writing this story on November 2, 2018. This story is mid-composition. Please expect clunky prose, notes [in brackets], and incomplete...

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
