《Persona X》Stage 9: The First Victory (Lovers Arc Finale)

The team climbs up to the top of the dungeon, where they find Lovers.
Rogue: At last... We found you.
Tempest: Sucks to be you, big guy, 'cuz your about to get served!
Poppy Ω: I will do everything that I can to eliminate the target.
Lovers:
Tempest: Boy, is she cranky or what?
ACE: All right! We will speed-run this with no problems!
They all charge at Lovers. Lovers charges up and shoots a beam of dark energy, creating a huge explosion and pushing everyone back.
Tempest:
Momotaro shoots a beam of light at Lovers, but she comes out with little damage.
Kunai:
Kunai charges in and jumps into Lovers's face, blasting her directly with a fire ball. However, it had little effect.
Kunai: ...!
Lovers pulls out a tentacle and shoves Kunai out of the way.
ACE:
ACE summons Koppa Tengu and creates a whirling to soften Kunai's fall.
Kunai: Thank you.
ACE: Come on, what with the gloomy look? This is a game! We should enjoy this to the fullest!
Kunai: ACE, now's definitely not the time to-
Rogue: I love your way of thinking!
Rogue summons his Persona and starts blocking Lovers's tentacle attacks with its sword.
Kunai: We need to do something about those tentacles, and fast. Poppy, can you see if they have any weaknesses?
Poppy Ω: On it! Analyzing the enemy's weakness!
Poppy uses her Persona to scan the enemy.
Kunai: Well?
Poppy Ω: The tentacles each have weaknesses: Fire, Water, Wind and Electricity.
ACE: Thanks for the tip!
ACE summons High Pixie and inflicts confusion on Hera.
ACE: Now!
They each attacked with their respective attributes. Destroying the tentacles and causing Lovers severe damage.
Tempest: Oof! That looked like it hurt.
Lovers slowly raised her hand, then a light appeared around her.
Rogue: What's she doing?
Kunai: Oh, no! She casting a healing spell! Quick, cancel it!
ACE:
ACE casts a spell on Lovers, interrupting her spell in the process.
Viper: Now's our chance! Finish this!
The four of them gathered up for an All-out Attack, and thus ending the battle.
Lovers falls to the ground in defeat. Then she slowly vanishes into nothingness.
Tempest: Is it over?
Outside, there were fireworks spelling "STAGE CLEARED". Players around the area were being informed of the Grand Mission being completed.
Tempest: I guess that answers my question.
Then all of the sudden, the dungeon starts crumbling.
Rogue: What's going on!?
ACE: That's our cue! Let's get out of here.
The team starts making a run for it, then the walls fall down revealing a way out, but the height was too much.
Kunai: If we jump from this height...
ACE: Geronimoooooo!!!!!
Kunai: That idiot!
Tempest: It's a game! Who careeeeesssss!!!!?
Tempest and the others start jumping as well.
Kunai: ...-_-...I am surrounded by utter fools.
Kunai had no choice but to jump as well.
ACE: Ready everyone?
Tempest: For what?
ACE: This!
ACE pulls out a teleport crystal, taking everyone near the entrance of the dungeon.
Kunai: What happened? Did you...
ACE: I bought a G-home in advance. Preparation is everything in The MatriX.
They watched from afar as the dungeon was crumbling down.
Tempest: I guess this is what happens whenever you clear a dungeon, right?
Poppy Ω: You are correct.
Rogue: Sweet! We did it! Let's have a celebration tomorrow!
Kunai then walks up to Poppy.
Kunai: Thank you for your help Poppy. Seriously.
Poppy Ω: There is no need to thank me.
Then she begins walking away.
Rogue: Wait, where are you going.
Poppy Ω: My new designated base of operations.
Poppy teleports away.

Tempest: Where did she go?
Kunai: Who knows? But I think we'll see her again soon.
Tempest: Anyways, everything ended on a good note. So, what's next?
ACE: No, no, no. This won't do.
Everyone looks at ACE confused.
ACE: NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!
ACE maniacally starts shooting at the others.
Kunai: ACE! What's wrong?
Tempest: The hell's up with you man? Calm down!
ACE: You call that a Dungeon Raid!? I could've done that on my own and the result would've been the same!
Kunai: RETREAT!!!
And so, everyone logs out and calls it a day.
The morning after clearing the Lovers' Labyrinth Ikki was currently on bed, then when he opens his eyes he feels someone holding his hand..
Ikki: Huh?
It was soft and warm. He looks to the side to see a naked girl next to him. Much to his shock.
Ikki: Huh!?
Then Mana enters the room.
Mana: Hey, Ikki, I found this small shelf on my attic, do you want it-
Mana drops the shelf in shock after seeing a naked girl next to him.
Ikki: M-Mana, I can explain.
Mana: Can you?
Ikki: ...Not really.
Mana: To the living room, NOW!
Mana found the girl some clothes and took them both to the living room.
Ikki: This is seriously not what it looks like.
Mana: Look, if you wanna bring girls over that's completely fine. I mean, I assume this would happen eventually, you are old enough to engage in that sort of activities after all.
Ikki: The thing is... I don't know this girl.
Mana was furious after hearing that.
Mana: You brought a prostitute!? I am a cop! This is illegal!
Ikki: N-N-No! It's not like that, I swear!
Mana: Then what's going on?
Ikki: That's what I'd like to know! I know just as much as you!
???: I cannot blame you for not recognizing me. This is our first meeting while in this form.
Ikki: Huh?
Poppy Ω: I am called Poppy Omega. This is what I look like in this world.
Mana: Poppy Omega? What kind of name is that? And "this world"? You know what, I don't think I even wanna know. I'm going to work.
Mana left for work. Then Ikki turns to Poppy.
Ikki: Okay, what are you doing here?
Poppy Ω: You were the one who awakened me, therefore I am now in your possession.
Ikki: I can't deal with this right now. I'm going to school. So just stay here, and don't do anything. Got it?
Poppy Ω: Understood.
Ikki left to school.
It was a normal day at Chisai. Ikki and the others where in class, until Suoh texted Airi.
Suoh (Text): Yo, Airi!
Airi (Text): What the hell is wrong with you? Were in class!
Suoh (Text): Sorry, but I've been so curious ever since we took out Gamma.
Suoh (Text): Ikki suddenly went ballistic and attacked us.
Airi (Text): You're right. His behavior was strange.
Airi (Text): Why did he attacked us all of the sudden?
Suoh (Text): I know, right? It felt so out of the blue.
Suoh (Text): We should ask him about it.
Airi (Text): He better have a good explanation for what he did.
Fukuhara: Terashima-kun! Are you listening?
Suoh: Yes, Miss?
Fukuhara: Are you on your phone right now?
Suoh: N-No. I'm not!
Fukuhara: That better be so.
As Misaki continued the class, the team went back to texting.
Suoh (Text): Phew. That was close.
Suoh (Text): How come I was the only one who was called off?
Airi (Text): You should be more careful when texting in class.

Airi (Text): Anyways, you and Ikki-kun, meet me after school.
Airi (Text): I also have something to discuss with you all.
The guys met up after school.
Ikki: What's this all about?
Airi: Ikki, why did you suddenly attacked us last night.
Ikki: Eh?
Suoh: Yeah, why did you?
Ikki: What about it?
Kenzo: What'ya mean what about it!? We're supposed to be friends here!
Ikki had a confused look on his face.
Ikki: Friends? We are?
Airi: Understandable. We met not too long ago and just started partying up, so we can't blame you for thinking that way. But still, why did you attacked us?
Ikki: I've been a solo player my whole life. Because during the very rare instances when I team-up with someone, that someone ends up being more of a nuisance rather than helpful. I'm just trying to make sure you at least have what it takes to keep up with me.
Ikki leaves.
Kenzo: Hmph. Who does that guy thinks he is? Just because he's a veteran he thinks he's better than everyone else? So he wants us to keep up with him, huh? Challenge accepted.
Suoh: Sweet! Can't wait to go back to the MatriX!
Airi: About that... we have exams coming up, so better start studying.
Suoh: NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ikki arrives home. Only to find the usual... dirty plates, garbage bags, and a nearly empty fridge and pantry.
Ikki: Okay, this is slowly starting to drive me crazy.
Poppy Ω: The Chief works fulltime, so it's natural that she barely has time to take care of her own house.
Ikki: I've never seen her eat at home before. She must be settling for street food or take-out. That's can't be good for her.
Poppy Ω: Chief was kind enough to welcome us into her home, she may not show it, but she really cares for you. She deserves better than this.
Ikki: I wanna help her in return, but how?
Poppy Ω: We can start by cleaning this place up, don't you think?
Ikki: That's true.
Poppy: Next is dinner. Chief is busy all day, so it would be refreshing for her to have a nice warm home-cooked meal after a long day of work.
Ikki: Yeah, but we don't have anything we can use in the kitchen.
Poppy Ω: Then let's do grocery shopping online.
Ikki: I have no money, and I don't know how to cook either.
Then Ikki recalled something.
Ikki: Wait... didn't that cafe chef said he was hiring? He also said he would offer free cooking lessons. What was his name...? Oh yeah! Yusuke Kisaragi! I could earn money by working for him, and learn how to cook! Two birds in one stone.
Poppy Ω: There's also many other part-time jobs you can apply for here in Yokohama. I advice looking into that as well.
Ikki: Okay then, I'll talk to Kisaragi-san tomorrow.
Poppy Ω: But first things first, let us begin clean up.
Ikki: Yeah, yeah...
Ikki approaches the cafe where Yusuke's working. But he covered his nose almost instantly as there was a putrid smell coming from somewhere.
Ikki: Damn! What's that smell.
The answer was right on the back of the cafe. Yusuke was sitting in front of a portable grill and was grilling fish with something.
Ikki: Um... Yusuke-san?
Yusuke notices Ikki.
Yusuke: Eh? Oh! You're that university student from the other day.
Ikki: My name is Ikki Inuzuka. I actually came here to talk about the job.
Yusuke: The job? Oh sure. Have a seat.
Ikki sits in front of him.
Ikki: Um, first of all, what are you doing?
Yusuke: This? My latest creation, grilled sardine with condensed milk! Wanna try some?
Ikki: I'm... good.
Yusuke: Are you sure? It's so disgusting it's funny.
Ikki: Well, it its disgusting then why make it?
Yusuke: Cooking is an endless wasteland, filled with all kinds of possibilities. Life is short, and you can only learn so much with the little time you got, that's why I want to try all kinds of things, after all, a dish can only shine through trial and error, it's what makes cooking so fun.
Ikki: Man, that's deep.
Yusuke: Either way, I don't serve this stuff to customers. It would be bad for business.
Ikki: That's true enough.
Yusuke: Anyways, you say you came here for the job?
Ikki: Yeah. Are you still hiring?
Yusuke: You bet.
Ikki: I just moved into this city recently, and I was wondering whether I could have a job here.
Yusuke: Sure. I could use an extra hand.
Then Yusuke begins explaining Ikki his job.
Yusuke: Okay, so your job is quite simple, I just need you to take orders from customers. This cafe is really popular, so I get a lot of customers, even when it's not the busy season.
Ikki: Understood.
Yusuke: One more thing, at the end of the day, before the cooking lessons begin, I need you to do something for me.
Ikki: Which is?
Yusuke: As I told you before, I'm a chef who wishes to try all kinds of things, but It's hard to learn something new from my opinion alone, which is why I need your help.
Ikki: You mean...?
Yusuke: I need you to be a test subject for new dishes I've been working on. Would that be okay with you?
Ikki: Wait, so I have to eat those sardine with condensed milk?
Yusuke: Well, there will be other things aside from fish. Will this too much for you?
Ikki: Is that a challenge? There's no game I can't clear.
Yusuke: So, do we have a deal?
Ikki: You got it.
I've made a deal with Yusuke-san.
"I am thou, thou art I... Thou has established a new bond...
"It shall become thy strength, thy wisdom, and thy courage to clear the game..."
"Rejoice! For thou has been blessed with the power of the Judgement Persona...
Yusuke: Well, let's get to work, then.
Ikki: Right away Chief!
Yusuke: And after workshift's over, I'll teach you this special recipe I learned from a friend of mine.
Ikki: Cool.
I began working with Kisaragi-san. I then had to try one of his grotesque creations afterwards. I feel like this experience have increased my .
He then made me a humane meal and gave me some cooking lessons, so it was totally worth it.
After arriving home from school and finished homework, Ikki began cleaning up. Then Ikki had made dinner and had everything ready to receive Mana. Then later that night, she returns home.
Mana: I'm home.
Ikki: Oh, Mana. You're home early.
Mana: I'm sorry we haven't been able to spend any time together, but with work and everything- hold on, this house looks a bit cleaner than usual.
Ikki: Yeah, I did some cleaning.
Mana: Really? Thanks, I'm always kinda tired, so... Wait, is that curry?
Ikki: That's right, dinner's almost ready. Have a seat.
Mana: I'm sorry, what?
Ikki presents Mana a plate of curry.
Mana: A chicken cutlet curry? I don't remember having any ingredients to make this.
Ikki: I ordered some groceries online.
Mana: But with what money?
Poppy Ω: Ikki got a part-time job at a cafe.
Mana: Seriously?
Ikki: Yeah, Kisaragi-san is an amazing chef. He's giving me free lessons after work.
Mana takes a bite.
Mana: This is amazing. You have a knack for this.
Ikki: I'm just an apprentice, but thanks. Hey, I just remember, I bought some bath salts while on the way from the grocery store, want me to get a bath ready for you?
Mana: What the- geez! What are we doing? I'm supposed to take care of you, yet here you are taking care of me.
Ikki: Sorry?
Mana: But this curry is good. And I really need to change my diet, so I don't have to spend so much time at the gym.
Then Mana thought of something.
Mana: Hey, you're learning how to cook at that food truck, right?
Ikki: Pretty much.
Mana: And your housekeeping skills are... decent... to say the least. How about this then, you continue doing this, cleaning and cooking for us. Of course, I don't expect you to do this for free, I will give you an allowance, fill up that fridge while you're at it, too. Not a bad deal, huh?
Ikki: Are you sure? I'm not the best at housekeeping.
Mana: You're better than me that's for sure.
Ikki: Okay, but remember, this is what you wanted.
I've made a deal with Mana.
"I am thou, thou art I... Thou has established a new bond...

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
