《The Curious Case of Danielle Parker》eight

Estelle led me towards her car, chattering away about some book she'd read that she thought I'd like. I was half listening, half worrying about seeing Levi. I couldn't figure out if he'd been so...magical, for lack of a better word, to me that day just because I was sick, or because he really was that attractive.

The drive to her house took about twenty minutes, but it wound right past the edge of the town and quite deep into the forest. Her driveway was triple the length of Alex's, and the house at the end was about five times the size.

Wow. Of course they were loaded.

"Your parents have a beautiful home," I breathed as we approached the house. Well, mansion.

Estelle smiled, sadly. "Thank you. My parents aren't actually with us. They died about four years ago."

My heart dropped. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I can't believe I..."

She shook her head. "Honestly, it's okay. We're okay."

She was quiet for a second, before turning around and smiling at me. "Let's go inside, I'm starving."

The house was even more beautiful inside, immaculately designed, but without the sterile feel that many large houses have. It felt like you could use any piece of furniture without worrying it was some sixteenth century antique. It felt lived in, which was nice.

We set out bags and books down at a massive oak table between the kitchen and a living room, and Estelle went to the fridge.

"Any preferences?"

"I'm allergic to nuts, but other than that I'm happy with anything."

Suddenly, Estelle sighed and closed the fridge door. "Sorry, I need to go make a call, I'll be right back," and with that she practically ran from the room. Weird.

Shrugging, I pulled out a chair and took the sheets from my bag, reading through them. Man I sucked at accounting.

Estelle's POV

"Why would you bring her here!? I can barely restrain myself Estelle. Every fucking fibre of my being is fighting to not just go pick her up like some kind of insane person."

I frowned. I didn't think of that. "Look, this way you can get a chance to see her, make sure she's okay without being a stalker. Maybe even get to know her a bit."

He sighed. "We don't even have a plan yet. I don't know what to say, what to do." He paced around the study, running his hands through his hair in frustration.

"Okay well don't do what Alpha Lucas did," I scoffed. We'd been reading up all night for days on similar situations, and had only found the one. He'd found his Charlotte in a restaurant, basically kidnapped her and it took a hell of a long time for them to work things out. Surely there were easier ways.

He huffed. "I can see why he did it."

"Hey. You cannot scare the girl."

"I'm sure she's strong enough. She's meant to lead alongside me, remember?"

I punched his arm. "Levi. You are doing this the right way. It will be easy, the attraction is mutual, remember?"

His dark eyes softened slightly. Groaning, he nodded. "Fine. When did you get so smart, anyway?"

I shrugged. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a guest."

I turned around at the door, smirking at him cheekily. "There's mail for you on the kitchen bench. It's urgent."
