《The Curious Case of Danielle Parker》four

I rolled my eyes as another crash was heard from upstairs.

"Should we do something?" My younger sister, Georgia, looked up from her homework in concern.

I smiled at her. "I'll go up soon. He just needs to get it out of his system."

She nodded slowly. "I don't like it when he's angry."

"Oh sweetie, he's not angry. He's just... gotten some confusing news. It will be okay. Hey, do you want some ice cream?"

Georgia was only nine, far too young to understand our brother's current issue.

In all honesty, I thought he was being a big baby. I mean, alpha or not, making a scene like that?! If he'd just stopped, taken a deep breath and evaluated the situation, maybe we wouldn't be facing having to replace all the upstairs furniture.

Georgia winced at the banging, and looked at me with her big blue eyes.

"Okay, I'll go talk to him. Send help if I'm not back in twenty," I joked, winking at her.

She nodded, and got up to get ice cream.

Upstairs, I stood at the entrance to my brother's door, arms folded.

He glanced at me, pale and looking terrible. I winced, not expecting him to look so bad.

"I'm sure the fever will break soon," I offered. He threw me a withering look and kicked a chair.

"You need to stop trashing this room, you're scaring Georgia."

He stopped, breathing heavily, and slumped down onto the bed.

"Look, I know it's hard-"

"You have no idea." He growled.

I mean, he was true. I really didn't. For a moment I wished I'd never begged him to pick me up from school. This could have all happened in a much nicer environment.

"I should have just gone over to her. This wouldn't be happening if they'd just let me go," he groaned through gritted teeth.

"Oh yes, because running at that poor girl would have made a world of difference." I said sarcastically.

"I could have explained-"

"What?" I interrupted. "What exactly would you have told that human girl after running at her like a psychopath?"

He was silent.

"What do I do?" He whispered.

I put a hand on his arm. "We'll figure something out."

"There must be a mistake."

"There's never a mistake." I took his arm and turned it over gently. His wrist was bright red, a mark formed clearly. I smiled, despite myself.

"Congratulations, Levi."

His lips flickered into a smile slightly. "Yeah."

"Get some sleep. Tomorrow we'll call a meeting, inform everyone. It will be okay."

I got up to leave as he lay down, exhausted.

"Estelle?"

I turned around.

"Do you... do you know anything about her?"

I smiled, rolling my eyes. "Not much. I saw her at the lunch, and she's in my accounting class."

He nodded, his eyes closed. "Her name is Danielle."

"Danielle..." he murmured.
