heard somebody reciting the passage of the Holy Qur'an we belong to Allah (swt) and our return is towards Him,

Imam Ali (as) said, "How true it is! Our declaring that we belong to Allah indicates that we accept Him as our Master, Owner and Lord.

And when we say that our return is towards Allah indicates that we accept our mortality."

The Holy Qur'an is a compilation of the verbal revelations given to the Holy Prophet Muhammad(sa) over a period of twenty three years.

The Holy Qur'an lays down the law and commandments, codes for our social and moral behaviour, and contains a comprehensive religious philosophy.

The language of the Qur'an is Arabic.

Besides its proper name, the Quran is also known by the following names:

Al Kitab (The Book);

Al Furqan (The Discrimination);

Al Dhikr (The Exposition);

Al Bayan (The Explanation);

Al Burhan (The Argument);

Al Haqq (The Truth);

Al Tanzil (The Revelation);

Al Hikmat (The Wisdom);

Al Huda (The Guide);

Al Hukm (The Judgment);

Al Mau'izah (The Admonition);

Al Rahmat (The Mercy);

Al-Noor (The Light);

Al-Rooh (The Word).

The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs or Chapters and each Chapter consists of individual Ayat or verses.

There are in total 6,348 verses in the Holy Quran.

The Surahs are of varying lengths, some consisting of a few lines while others run for many pages.

Surah al Baqarah (Ch.2) is the longest Chapter comprising 287 verses while Surah al Kauthar (Ch. 108) is the shortest with only four verses including the tasmia.

The text of the Holy Quran has remained unchanged over the past 1400 years.

And this is not strange since Allah (swt) says in the Holy Qur'an that He Himself will guard this book:

"Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians" (15:10)

The holy Qur'an is the Word of Allab and contains complete guidance for mankind.

•° Do not mix the truth with falsehood.

•° Order righteousness to people after practising it yourself.

•° Do not commit abuse on the earth.

•° Do not prevent people from mosques.

•° Do not follow anyone blindly.

•° Do not break the promise.

•° Do not engage in Bribery.

•° Protect Orphans.

•° Do not devour the property of orphans.

•° Choose rulers by their merit.

•° Do not invalidate charity with reminders.

•° Help those in need by finding them.

•° Fight only with those who fight you. (When there is war, and your enemies attack you , you defend yourself against them).

•° Don't consume interest.

•° Grant more time to repay if the debtor is in hard time.

•° Write down the debt.

•° Do not spy and backbite.

•° Believe in all Prophets.

•° Do not burden a person beyond his scope.

•° Do not become divided.

•° Restrain anger.

•° Do not be rude in speech.

•° Think deeply about the wonders and creation of this universe.

•° Men and women have equal rewards for their deeds.

•° Family should be lead by men.

•° Do not keep envy

•° Judge with justice between people.

•° Do not kill each other.

•° Do not cooperate in sin and aggression.

•° Avoid intoxicant and alcohol and consuming pork and other haram foods.

•° Do not gamble.

•° Do not insult others deities.

•° Having majority is not a criterion of truth.

•° Don't reduce weight or measure to trick people.

•° Do not be arrogant.

•° Eat and drink but not excessively.

•° Forgive others for their mistakes.

•° Protect and help those who seek protection.

•° Keep purity.

•° Women should not display their finery.

•° Allah will forgive those who have done wrong out of ignorance.

•° Invitation to God should be with wisdom and good instruction.

•° Be dutiful to parents.

•° Do not say a word of disrespect to parents.

•° Never give up hope of Allah's mercy.

•° Do not spend money extravagantly.

•° Do not kill your children for fear of poverty.

•° Do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse.

•° Do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge.
