《Besame Mucho - Contuniued》Chapter VI

Lovino sat at home next to Antonio's bed. Waiting, always waiting. Antonio hadn't stirred since the drive home two days ago. Lovino hadn't left the house, and he'd hardly left Antonio's room. Feliciano kept trying to get Lovino to do something else, come to market, go on a short walk, eat dinner at the table, and Lovino had, but not often.
Feliciano spent almost all day outside. Lovino thought he was at the tree he had been seeing the pilot at. Lovino was worried about him, but he knew it would be pointless to try and stop him. Just as pointless as Feliciano's attempts to get Lovino out of the house.
Roma had been looking for a doctor and had finally found one, who was in the town. He was coming and Lovino was a nervous wreck. At least in his mind. Outside he looked the same as ever, but in his mind he was losing it. What if Antonio wasn't okay, what if he wasn't going to wake up, what if the Gestapo had broken him... what if this was all he would get... Lovino's mind swam in a sea of these thoughts, filling him with dread. Lovino didn't dare to think that Antonio would be okay, because if he wasn't, all his hopes would be shattered, and he would crash with them.
"Lovino, I'm going out to get the doctor. I'll be back," Roma had made sure to tell Lovino whenever he was coming or going. Lovino thought he was trying to somehow take care of him, but Lovino didn't understand.
"Okay, Grandpa."
"And Lovino, please eat something. He's not going to wake up and go unconscious in the time it takes to eat some bread."
"Just go find the doctor," Lovino wasn't actually scared of Antonio waking up without him, though that would be awful, he was scared that he would die without him. He had been breathing strangely, and every once in awhile he would moan or cry out, but what scared Lovino was how quiet he got some times, his breathing shallow, and not a sound for ages. Lovino knew that Roma knew it too.

"Eat."
"Fine, now go."
Lovino waited until Roma had left until he got up and looked around the kitchen for something he might want. Lovino hadn't been very hungry for a few days, with bigger things on his mind, but he had been eating. Lovino grabbed something and headed back to Antonio's room.
Antonio was mumbling again but none of it made any sense to Lovino. So Lovino just lied down next to Antonio. Lovino wrapped his arms around Antonio, "It's okay, Antonio, just get some sleep. I promise you're okay. Everything will work out, just rest."
Antonio muttered softly, but quieted after a moment. His hands clenched Lovino's shirt, in his restless sleep. Lovino stroked his hair, listening for Roma and the doctor.
Lovino waited. It could have been forever, but the sun falling through the window had hardly moved, so it wasn't long. He heard the door open and carefully untangled himself from Antonio, sitting up.
"Lovino, did you eat?" Roma called from the next room over.
"Yes, Grandpa."
The doctor and Grandpa were talking in the other room about the paperwork, what had happened, and other things that Lovino did not care to hear about. Lovino instead sat down on Antonio's bed and took up stroking his hair again.
That was another thing. The invasion had came and gone in Lovino's panic to rescue Antonio he had hardly paid it any mind. Now Lovino found there was nothing to listen to, no reason to hid in doorways, nothing for Grandpa to hide him from. And it bored Lovino.
Lovino heard the gentle footfalls near the door and he stood. Slowly. Casually.
"Hello," The doctor greeted Lovino and stuck out his hand for Lovino to shake.
"Hello," Lovino did not shake the man's hand. Instead he turned to Grandpa, "I'm going out to... to..." Lovino just needed a reason to leave. He didn't want to stay while someone told grandpa all the things wrong with Antonio and how hopeless things looked, "God damn it, I'm going out and I don't need a reason."

.
Lovino hadn't really gotten far. He was sitting in the garden against the wall. With his guitar. Playing anything he could think of and even things he couldn't. Just not that song. Anything to fill the space with something other than Antonio.
The notes were quiet and soft and Lovino eventually stopped. He leaned his head against the wall and slept.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

There she was.She spun around quickly, her eyes wide and her hair wild. Though she was all the way across the dark room, I could tell she was breathing heavily. I could even sense her fear. Had she known all along? Or had she heard the screams-the gunshot? I took a step forward but before I could speak the closet door behind her creaked open and a body almost fell out but she caught it in time, grunting as she shoved it back in and slammed the closet door shut once again. I stopped in my tracks, stunned and she turned swiftly, pressing her back against the closet door and letting out a nervous laugh. "HAHA mannequins right?!
